John Edwards not guilty on one count, jury deadlocks on others

The weasel has slunk his way through a courtroom once again.

There's only one thing we can do. Cue the music!

Appeals court strikes down Defense of Marriage Act

Marxist egalitarianism continues to bulldoze traditional society. "Discrimination," which means any choice NOT based on leftist ideology, is once again smeared as eeevil. That means DC will mandate same-sex marriage in EVERY state:

The Boston-based Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit concluded that the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman, discriminates against gay couples.

"Under current Supreme Court authority, Congress' denial of federal benefits to same-sex couples lawfully married in Massachusetts has not been adequately supported by any permissible federal interest," Judge Michael Boudin wrote for the three-judge panel.

Michael Boudin, by the way, is one of the two Republican judges who made this UNANIMOUS decision.

People criticize the League of the South for advocating secession. "We have elections," they say. "Just work to put Republicans in office."

Been there. Done that. And this is what we get.

This day in history

In 2004, Alberta Martin, the last surviving Confederate widow, died on this date.

Star Wars

Hard to believe it was 35 years ago this month that Star Wars premiered. The movie not only popularized Joseph Campbell's insight that the function of myths is to inspire individuals and perpetuate society, but was itself an example of Campbell's teaching that ancient myths must be continually modernized so they can fulfill their function.

Talk about inspiration! Star Wars tells the story of the ultimately successful secession of the Rebel Alliance from the Galactic Empire. However, the three prequels that followed The Return of the Jedi focused on the unsuccessful first effort to break away from the Republic. The first conflict arose as the increasingly corrupt Republic was transforming into the Empire. The two opposing forces in the first secession attempt were known as The Grand Army of the Republic (!) and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. (!!!) Here's a synopsis of each:

The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), also known as the Clone Army, was the main part of the armed forces of the Galactic Republic in its final years, becoming one of the largest armies ever assembled, although not as large as the Separatist Droid Army. After the Clone Wars, it served as the nucleus for the armed forces of the Galactic Empire.

After the deaths of the members of the Separatist Council, some Confederacy-loyal worlds still refused to be absorbed into the new Galactic Empire. These remnants, some organized and unorganized, would continue to fight throughout the Imperial era. The Empire would use these holdouts as justification for expansion of the Imperial Navy. Many of them ended up joining the Rebel Alliance at its formation.

May the Force be with you.

Where do stereotypes come from?

According to this Pew Research poll, sometimes they come from the stereotypes themselves:

This reminds me of the old joke about Europeans. In the best of all worlds, the English are the policemen, the French are the cooks, the Germans are the engineers, the Italians are the artists, and the Swiss are the managers.

In the WORST of all worlds, the English are the cooks, the French are the engineers, the Germans are the policemen, the Swiss are the artists, and the Italians are the managers.

I'd say the escalating crisis with the Euro illustrates how true that joke really is.

How NOT to resist the New World Order

Think you're championing liberty and self-determination when you wave the DC flag? Guess again, says the Catholic Knight.

Will Catalonia secede from Spain?

65.7 % of Catalans are frustrated by "insufficient autonomy." The central government's efforts to quash Catalan self-government only make things worse.

The 20th century was the Age of the Megastate. The 21st is fast shaping up to be the Age of Devolution.

Texas Secession video

This video from Latino Public Broadcasting explores "the different ways in which Latinos and whites interpret the Texas Revolution, and the tensions between the two groups that continue to resonate 175 years later." (Great shot of an SCV float at :12 in!) But be sure to catch the Latino man who's a citizen of Texas, but still feels loyalty toward Mexico - and expresses it by dressing up as a Mexican soldier storming the Alamo. Hmmm.

From the movie:

"From the battles to secede from Mexico came the enduring image of heroes - and enemies. Every year across Texas, those battles are being recreated - some say, that's because they're still being fought."

NC gets waiver from federal law

This is one of those "good news, bad news" stories.

It's good that North Carolina, like 46 other states, realized the ponderous and muddle-headed "No Child Left Behind" law was unworkable, and applied for an exemption. It's good NC got that exemption. From the Charlotte Observer:

North Carolina has been cleared from meeting the most rigorous requirements of the No Child Left Behind law. ...

Speaking from Connecticut, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan said the administration seeks to free states from an outdated “one-size-fits all” federal system.

“Our goal with this waiver process has always been to simply get out of the way of states and districts and figure out the best way to meet their educational needs,” Duncan said.

North Carolina officials applauded the decision, charging that No Child Left Behind had become too complicated.

Okay - if the "one-size-fits-all" federal systems is outdated, why continue to prop it up? If it makes sense for the Feds to "get out of the way" and "allow" the people of the States to make their own decision in education, what about in other areas?

Small really is beautiful. That's why overgrown governments around the world are breaking up and being replaced by smaller, more representative governments.

Still, the idea that the sovereign States have to beg the corrupt busy-bodies in DC for permission for something DC HAD NO BUSINESS IN to begin with is troubling. When did we delegate authority to regulate our educational systems? Never. When Congress passed W's ludicrous law, the people should've told DC what it could do with its cumbersome, wasteful regulations.

One step at a time, I reckon ...

Folk musician Doc Watson dies in NC hospital at 89

Legendary Southern musician Doc Watson - 1923-2012

The sky is falling on Lindsey Graham!

Starting this Tuesday, Senator Lindsey Graham (R - Glee Club), will scamper across South Carolina to warn folks that cuts to the military threaten campaign contributions our security.

He will kick off his Pink Panic Tour at the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics plant in Greenville.

Fun fact: Eisenhower originally used the term "military-industrial-congressional complex" to describe the threat to American liberty posed by DC's perpetual war footing.

Ruben Navarrette: Give us a choice!

Ruben Navarrette, CNN's tireless (and humorless) Latinization advocate, argues in his latest "Death to America" rant that what this country needs is a Democratic party advocating amnesty for illegal immigrants, and a Republican party advocating "a pathway to earned legal status."

After all, what other choices are possible?

His picture says it all: smug self-congratulation combined with the irritability that all leftists acquire at some point. (As the inimitable Jim Goad observes, "radical egalitarianism inevitably leads to insanity." He's right, you know.) Navarrette appears to be bloating from excess self-righteousness. So what would explain Navarrette's expression? Perhaps it's "constipiety."

Why government schools should be privatized

Only an alien, corrupt bureaucracy could protect a teacher like this:

The Leftist Dream

Imagine what life would be like if the left got everything it wanted. An all-powerful government. Loyalties based on heritage and tradition have been completely obliterated by constant government indoctrination and re-education. People are totally dependent on the centralized government for all their needs, from food to education.

There's no need to imagine. That place is real, and it's in the news just about everyday. Welcome to the paradise of the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea:

Watching the public execution of his mother and older brother, Shin Dong-Hyuk thought the punishment was just. They had planned to escape the North Korean labor camp they were being held in until Shin overheard them and reported them to the prison guards.

Just 14-years old, Shin says he felt no guilt in condemning them to death. One of the very few North Koreans to be born inside one of the brutal prison camps, he says the concept of family that exists in the outside world did not exist in Camp 14.

"I had never felt that kind of attachment and love that people outside of prison camps feel towards them," he told CNN. "So they were just one of many criminals in a prison camp."

It takes years of surveillance and training to wring all human feeling from an individual. That, however, is exactly the goal of leftist ideology - the creation of an anti-human never-never land where every thought and action is regulated. With traditional relationships and loyalties replaced by obedience to the standards of a governing elite, there is no more prejudice, no more inequality.

If that sounds like your cup of tea, do us all a favor and defect to North Korea, and let the rest of us live the way we want to live. Deal?

League of the South Fundraiser

Valerie Protopapas, winner of the League’s newly created “Copperhead” award, has made an offer to help us with a fund raising project. Valerie is, among other things, an artist who has in the past rendered “bust” portraits—head and shoulders—from both photographs and illustrations of such notable Confederates as Col. John Singleton Mosby—her personal favorite—and General Nathan Bedford Forrest. She has even painted a Yankee or two—with gritted teeth—when requested to do so. In more than a few instances, Valerie has created portraits of the ancestors of friends and the occasional raffle winner, taken from copies of personal photos provided by the recipient.

Upon receipt of our recent request for financial assistance, Valerie has offered to do an eight by ten inch framed portrait of the subject of choice for any person or group donating $200 or more to the League. Obviously, the donor would need to provide a photograph—or rather a copy thereof as such things are usually rare and costly—sufficiently large to make the features visible for reproduction. Pictures of one’s ancestor taken from fifty feet away on horseback in a crowd is obviously not suitable, but many CDVs are. Information regarding coloring—eyes and hair—would have to be provided for period photos. If the donor prefers a reproduction from a painting, a copy of that would also be required. But, again, it would be only of the head and shoulders. There is no limitation on the subject. Women as well as men, the famous and the obscure alike are perfectly fine.

After Valerie receives notice from the League of the receipt of the donation along with information on the donor, she will contact that person by e-mail or regular mail and the rest of the process will take place between the artist and the donor to prevent confusion and delay. The finished portrait will be framed and mailed to the donor upon its completion.

If there are any questions regarding this offer, please contact Valerie directly:

Quote of the day

"One thing I know never dies nor changes, the reputation of a dead man." Norse proverb

Witnessing the End at Chapel Hill

Here's an excerpt, from the North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial site:

“My very young eyes saw Joseph E. Johnston’s army pass through the old college town of Chapel Hill; Sherman was hanging on its rear. As I stood by the side of the road with my mother, my hand in hers, I was too young to see what my eyes saw, “the most pitiable sight I ever beheld,” she always said.

I did not know what it all meant, but I probably wondered why there were so many horses in one place and why so many of them were limping. The end of the war was near, Lee had surrendered, and Johnston’s surrender was only a matter of days. Ragged uniforms and barefooted men told the story. The limping horses belonged to General Joe Wheeler’s cavalry.

Be sure to read the whole thing - the incident with Sherman's bummers is not to be missed!

More antifa arrests

Here's the latest on the Marxist thugs who terrorized a peaceful meeting at a Chicago suburb restaurant.

During the Anti-Racist Action attack, an 80-year-old woman was pushed down to the ground. Guess they couldn't find any cripples in wheelchairs.

Obama's War on the Constitution

Glenn Greenwald skewers the Obama regime for its campaign to nullify what's left of the constitutional constraints on illegal government surveillance.

In fact, as Greenwald points out, Obama is a greater threat to our civil liberties because he is a liberal Democrat. That's how it works - Republicans smuggle in the socialist agenda under the cover of "conservatism," while Democrats expand the national security state.

That's how the DC tapeworm feeds itself.

Britain plans emergency immigration controls

Economic collapse could trigger immigration crisis as refugees pour into richer countries, who in turn could be overwhelmed. In preparation for this contingency, Britain - yes, immigrant-friendly Britain - is planning on how to prevent such a flood on its own soil.

Wow. Secure the borders to protect your people - what a concept!

Scots' push for Britain breakup begins in earnest

The Third National at the Wallace Monument in Scotland

The fires of self-determination are heating up in Scotland:

Supporters of independence for Scotland will launch on Friday what they say is the biggest grassroots campaign in Scottish history, a move that could result in the demise of a 305-year-old union with England and the breakup of Britain.

Seeking to tap into a cocktail of historical rivalry, opposing political tastes, and a perception that the British parliament in London does not nurture Scotland's national interests, the "Yes Scotland" campaign says it wants to win a referendum on independence in 2014 and for the country to become fully independent by 2016.

"For the first time the issue is real because people are going to have a vote," a spokesman for the campaign, who said he could not be named in line with protocol, told Reuters.

Why is this finally taking place? Maybe Scots are tired of their second-class status under England. They bear the brunt of the English elite's wars, yet have only limited autonomy (though still more say-so than ANOTHER conquered people I could name).

Speaking of which, when do the citizens subjects of the freest nation in the world get to vote on whether they get to govern themselves?

SPLC Speaks Out Against Alabama’s Immigration Law

In the land once known as America, an historic demographic revolution is underway. One cheerleader of that revolution, Ruben Navarrette Jr., notes with sniggering glee that Latinos are displacing whites. Yet he still feels the pain whites must feel. As Navarrette observes, "No one likes being told they're being displaced or pushed aside, or that they're not going to be as relevant as time goes on."

The thing for whites to do, he counsels, is to passively accept our fate, because the statistics revealing the Latinization of America "aren't threats. These are facts."

In a way, he's right: the big-business/big-government coalition in DC has mandated that a new people shall inherit its domain. And it has brought on a flood of Third-World immigration that is transforming this country.

But the majority still opposes that agenda. For example, 65 percent of voters support the efforts of Arizona to enforce the immigration control laws the federal government ignores. What option does that leave? Only one: action at the state and local level.

It's a powerful and effective option, and our enemies know it. Alabama, for example, has enacted a law to stop illegal immigration, and the treason lobby doesn't like it. Little wonder the regime's enforcers denounce such efforts. The SPLC condemns the law, arguing it is wrong for the people of Alabama to resist displacement.

SPLC spokesfink Mary Bauer carps that the law is "hurting immigrants. It’s hurting Latino U.S. citizens who are being subjected to racial profiling. We will not give up this fight.”

And neither will we. The harm done to whites by DC's demographic revolution isn't even supposed to be noticed, much less acknowledged. Our handlers want us to keep our mouths shut as we're replaced. Some of us will.

And some won't.

Astounding headline of the day!

My break with the extreme right

Who could imagine? A Neocon has disowned conservatives! Michael Fumento, a staunch war supporter and establishment mouthpiece, wants nothing to do with Tea Partiers who "scream their messages of hate and anger" out of a "reservoir of fear, anger and hate."

Rapper urges ex-felons to register and vote

Ah, American democracy endures! Who can read the following without getting a lump in the throat? Not me - this says "We, the People!" so eloquently, it should be in civics textbooks:

Atlanta-based rapper 2 Chainz came to Charlotte Saturday as part of a larger effort to encourage ex-felons to register and vote.

More than 35 people – some with criminal records -- attended a workshop and completed voter registration forms. The event was held at the Urban League of Central Carolinas office in uptown Charlotte.

The workshop was organized by the Hip-Hop Caucus, a nonpartisan, Washington-based group that focuses on getting people ages 18 to 40 to become more politically involved. One of the caucus’ primary efforts is its “Respect My Vote” campaign, which uses celebrities to encourage voter registration.

Well, since the "Hip-Hop Caucus" is a "nonpartisan" group, everything must be ok. That means they'll provide guidance to every jolly good felon, whether he's a Democrat or a Republican. Yeah.

Of course, there's no telling what will result from this campaign to encourage felons to vote. (The Observer gets it wrong referring to these cats as "ex-felons".) And I bet the backers of this program are in for a few surprises, too - check out what this young man, who's served his time for armed robbery, had to say:

Dimitrios Jordan, 23, questioned the wisdom of voting because, he said, regardless of who gets elected, nothing ever seems to change. He also said he was disappointed that Obama had voiced support for same-sex marriage.

Darn it! There's another renegrade who won't stick to the script.

These days, we must enjoy what comedy comes our way.

Your Charles Johnson moment

Charles Johnson, who has always been a pro-war, pro-big-government lefty, gets his jollies these days taking cheap shots at his former conservative allies. Whatever floats your boat, Chuckie.

But his latest lob at his ex-friends is just jaw-dropping outrageous. While defending Obama against Republicans upset at Obama's deficits, Charles inserts this audacious statement:

"Government spending under G.W. Bush increased dramatically. Where the Tea Party patriots were then we can only speculate about."

Wow. Where were you, Mr. Big Government, when Bush launched his insane wars, which will put us $4.4 trillion in debt?

You were cheering them on, that's what!

Refuting "Conservatism = Interventionism"

The Tenth Amendment Center vets Senator John Kyl's "Protect America Month" speech before The Heritage Foundation:

Kyl states early in his talk that “liberals and progressives have never been supportive of the imperative to preserve American sovereignty…” While the term sovereignty is sometimes used in a foreign policy context to denote independence, Kyl seems to use it as a synonym for the word security. ...

Before moving into Kyl’s full argument, it is important to point out the false dichotomy he presents for the audience. There is no fundamental difference in the foreign policy ideologies of conservative and progressive politicians, as judged by their actions. Practically speaking, the Obama foreign policy is the same as Bush’s, which is the same as Clinton’s, which is just like that of Bush before him, and so on.

Exactly. Here in the real world, where words have meaning, there is no difference between liberal and conservative foreign policy. Both labels refer to the two big-government wings of the ruling elite, which is dedicated to preserving and expanding big government. As this fine article argues, interventionism is NOT conservative. It is instead a tool of those who dream of reconstructing the world.

The only difference between American liberals and conservatives is what to target next. Do we bomb Iran or Alabama? Decisions, decisions.

Southern Poverty Law Center linked to left-wing terrorists

This is interesting. The cowardly Marxist organization that attacked diners in a Chicago-area restaurant this weekend, injuring ten people, hosted radical bomber and unrepentant communist Bill Ayers at its national conference last September.

Turns out the SPLC has praised Bill Ayers in its "Teaching Tolerance" periodical. And since Ayers still advocates violent revolution, it seems the SPLC has some explaining to do.

By its own standards of guilt by association, that makes the SPLC a pro-communist organization. And since the SPLC has cozied up to Marxists in the past, I'd say we have a pretty strong case against it.

US on edge of "fiscal cliff"

The federal government's sprawling bureaucracy is devouring our incomes faster than we can earn them. Congress, however, has one concern: to win the next election. That means paying off core constituencies, from the welfare queens in the ghetto, to the ones strutting around in the Pentagon.

As the song goes, one day the bottom will drop out. That bottom is looking awfully rusted these days, and the inevitable is staring us in the face:

For Congress, the outlines of the pending fiscal crisis are clear: Don’t do a thing, and watch the economy slip into a double-dip recession early next year. Or cancel the looming tax increases and spending cuts, watch the deficit rise, and push the government ever closer to a European-style debt crisis.

That decision was put in stark terms Tuesday by the Congressional Budget Office, which in a new analysis said the economy will plunge into a recession early next year if Congress lets taxes rise and spending be cut, as called for under the law.

The foundation of the Empire is its war machine, its primary tool of global domination and domestic control. The war machine's base budget is $530 billion, but when you add in the costs of the Empire's wars, the cost of caring for veterans mangled in war, and homeland security, the cost is closer to $930 billion.

How much longer can we prop up this monstrosity?

African American leaders blast NAACP 'gay marriage' support

How wide is the chasm between the big-government/big-business NAACP and the black population it claims to represent? This wide:

The NAACP's recent endorsement of “gay marriage” drew harsh criticism from within the African American community for misrepresenting civil rights and undermining families.

Pastor Derek McCoy, executive director of the Maryland Marriage Alliance, said that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's “unfortunate” stance on the issue will contribute to the “further demise of the family.”

McCoy told CNA on May 21 that the NAACP is “endorsing an epidemic” of fatherless households, a “tragic” phenomenon in the United States and particularly in the African American community.

By its endorsement of the homosexual agenda, the NAACP proves just how out of touch it is. And this isn't the only time this corrupt organization has betrayed its constituency. Blacks have been hit hardest by the recession, yet the NAACP kowtows to the corporations that donate to it by agreeing to their demands to open the borders to cheap, foreign labor.

Antifa? Anti IQ!

Check out the comments section of this report in The New York Observer on Saturday's attack on a peaceful meeting by left-wing thugs. People not only find the "antifa" violence repulsive, but are acknowledging the right of whites to organize.

Good move, geniuses!

Iowa Republican Party Platform

Here's another example of how the political landscape is transforming. After asserting the principle of secession from the Declaration, the Iowa GOP platform endorses these States' Rights positions:

We disagree with Roe vs. Wade and Doe vs. Bolton as ‘settled law.’ Under the Tenth amendment, these Supreme Court decisions have no authority over the states.

We support constitutional state sovereignty including nullification of federal oversteps.

We support the elimination of the departments of Agriculture, Education, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Energy, Interior, Labor, and Commerce as well as TSA, FDA, ATF, EPA, National Endowment for the Arts, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac.

State sovereignty, secession, nullification, and the elimination of federal departments not authorized by the Constitution.

Not a bad start!

David Frum: Laptop Bombardier, Globalist, Lunatic

Or, for the sake of convenience, just call Frum what he is: Neocon.

Frum is a prime example of this dangerous political species, which is just as universalist as the most raving Marxist (hence their enthusiasm for open borders), and always ready for another splendid little war.

What makes Neocons like Frum so noxious? Because they're identity thieves who claim they're conservative when in fact they're agitating for leftist objectives.

Check out Frum's creepy little post on the firing of John Derbyshire from National Review. He concludes with this bizarre counsel for conservatives:

The question ahead for American conservatives is whether they envision their future as a multi-ethnic coalition in favor of enterprise and individualism—or as a Bloc Québécois for older, white people. Fox News and Rush Limbaugh have embraced this latter future, and profited immensely by it. Nobody's firing them.

Yeah, if you want to keep your job these days, you'd better not question the big-government/big-business agenda of open borders and egalitarianism. You want job security? Be a good bootlicker.

If "conservatism" is based on conserving the existing social order, how could transforming America into a Third-World country be called "conservative"? Nowhere in history has there existed a "multi-ethnic coalition" upholding free enterprise and individualism. What leads Frum to believe such a monstrosity could or should be cobbled together?

Answer: because he's a lunatic.

The John Locke Foundation on forced annexation

Here's a great example of how Confederate principles are re-defining American political dialogue in the 21st century:

We’ve had these fights before during the American Revolution and in the War Between the States—won one; lost one. But might does not make right. In my opinion, similar principles of freedom apply to forcible annexation—differing only in scale.

He's right. The principles of the American Revolution is that the people are the source of sovereignty. Tragically, Lincoln's Counter-Revolution proclaimed that the government comes first, and if over 600,000 must die to assert the government's supremacy, then so be it. Forced annexation is a perfect example of what happens when the needs of government outweigh the needs of the people.

Thanks to Bernie for the link!

Thugs as heroes

The Chicago Tribune's story on Saturday's terror attack by far-left thugs at a Chicago-area restaurant has to be seen to be believed. Check out how the story portrays the attackers as idealistic crusaders taking a stand against "racism":

The men are connected to the Hoosier Anti-Racist Movement, which is part of the Anti-Racist Action Network that formed in Minneapolis in 1987 to address discrimination, according to a leader in the organization, Jacob Domke. ...

The Sutherlin brothers became interested in combating fascism while growing up in diverse family in Bloomington, a predominantly white city that is home to Indiana University, Domke said. Though they are white, their half sister's father is black, he said.

"When you grow up in a multiracial family in Indiana, I think that can open your eyes to the problem of racism in this country," Domke said.

Oh, they're going to "address discrimination." My, how noble of them. Here's how the Anti-Racist Network advises its members to "address discrimination":

“If you can get away it [sic], carry weapons, or if there’s a chance you might get searched by cops, carry items that can be used as weapons in a pinch (hefty flagpoles, thick placard sticks, batteries, maglights, bike locks).…"

Yep. Just starry-eyed idealists at work.

The Tribune article goes on to list the wonderful things the attackers have done for immigrants and homosexuals.

But what about the victims, who were peacefully meeting at a restaurant, and sent to the hospital because of this cowardly terror attack? The reporter, Joseph Ryan, (send him an email) allows Beckie Williams TWO SENTENCES to whimper that she and her group are not racist.

Problem is, these days, an accusation of racism is a conviction of racism. And those who say they're against racism are automatically assumed to be heroic - no matter the crimes they commit.

What a perfect recipe for future violence.

NATO summit protestors plan to rally during DNC in Charlotte, N.C.

Oh, goody.

"Antifa" attack diners in Chicago suburb

Who would've ever imagined that a group that glorifies violence and asserts its right to attack those it considers unrighteous would commit an act of violence? No, it's not the Pentagon this time, but sucker-punching leftists.

Saturday, diners at a restaurant in Tinley Park, Illinois, were blind-sided by thugs with batons and "railroad hammers." They attacked attendees of the "European Heritage Group" as well as others who were in the wrong place at the wrong time:

Police call the melee at the restaurant a targeted assault by a mob that Winston said wielded metal batons and hammers. Ten diners were hurt in the attack, and three of those were hospitalized.

Tinley Park police had five suspected assailants in custody, and Winston said 18 young men, all wearing hooded jackets and obscuring their faces with scarves and other coverings, stormed into the restaurant.

“They came running in the door single file,” said Winston, who owns Ashford House, 7959 W. 159th St., and the adjacent Winston’s Market.

Winston, and police, said the men knew who their targets were, and that the attack wasn’t a random act of violence. Winston said the mob “targeted” a group of 20 diners, all of whom were from out of state.

“Once they attacked the table, they went and started hitting random people,” Winston said.

The owner, Winston, chased down one of the punks, and had him down on the ground when a group of antifa attacked Winston, and the punk scampered away. Winston's restaurant sustained $15,000 in damage, and patrons are now shying away from fear of further violence.

What kind of coward would stage a sneak attack on innocent people at a restaurant? It's our old friends, the antifa, and they're proud of it. From an antifa web site:

On Saturday, May 19th a group of 30 anti-fascists descended upon Ashford House restaurant in the Chicago suburb of Tinley Park where the 5th annual White Nationalist Economic Summit and Illinois White Nationalist Meet-and-Greet was taking place. The White Nationalists were targeted inside the restaurant and physically attacked, causing several injuries and completely shutting down their meeting. ...

The antifascists were allegedly throwing bats, hammers and chairs, leaving multiple white supremacists hospitalized and successfully bringing the meeting to a brutal end. ...

These anti-fascists are committed to shutting down and attacking any racist, nationalist, or fascist organizers or individuals that they encounter.

As I've documented in the past, these violent extremists act on their belief that anyone to the right of Che Guevera is a "fascist." If you oppose open borders, socialism, or same-sex "marriage," they consider you a "fascist" and therefore a valid target.

By the way, Charlotte has seen its share of antifa shenanigans. When protesters hit the streets of Charlotte this September to coincide with the DNC, you better believe these hard-core lefties will be there to, as they once put it, give the city "a wake-up call."

Are we awake yet?

What causes racism?

Experts now tell us whites feel superior to minorities because they are the majority.

That's a bad thing that makes other bad things happen. In Duluth, Minnesota, 80% of white students graduate in four years compared to 25% of African American students. 18% of whites live in poverty compared to 67% of Blacks. These disparities are apparently a problem NO OTHER PLACE IN THE WORLD has experienced. Therefore, the local do-gooders have launched a campaign they call "Un-Fair" to make whites realize they benefit from "white privilege." To assist whites in this endeavor, billboards and posters are being plastered all over Duluth of white people with denunciations of white privilege scribbled on their faces (see above photo). If that doesn't advance racial harmony, I don't know what will.

The Un-Fair site explicitly states that blacks are underperforming because whites are the majority race:

The population of Duluth is 89% white, which may be a factor in our community appearing and functioning as a monoculture. This causes some groups to feel marginalized and excluded.

As a result, whites feel superior, making blacks feel inferior. From the same web site:

It is hard to see racism when we are white because we live in a monoculture based on white northern European values, beliefs, practices and culture.

Okay, that explains that. Clearly, an immigration policy that will make whites another minority will eradicate racism.

But wait! What's this? Why, it's Mark Potok, who is wise in such matters. He says white racism is getting worse BECAUSE America is becoming minority-majority:

"White supremacist groups have been having a meltdown since the census bureau predicted that non-Hispanic whites would lose the majority by 2050," said Mark Potok, spokesman for the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups. "The demographic change in this country is the single most important driver in the growth of hate groups and extremist groups over the last few years."

So which is it? I'm so confused.

SPLC — “Fighting Hate” on $106,000 a day

Has the Bell Begun to Toll for the GOP?

For the first time in this nation's history, non-white births outnumber white births.

Now for those who believe that race is something we all agreed to imagine, the only thing we need to do is quit imagining it, and poof! no problem. But Pat Buchanan has made a living pointing out inconvenient truths, and he thinks we should start considering the real-world implications of this:

Fifty-three percent of all Hispanic children are born out of wedlock, with no father in the home and many of the moms themselves high school dropouts. Most Hispanic kids thus start school far behind.

In tests of fourth-, eighth- and 12th-graders, their scores are closer to those of African-American kids than whites and Asians. Their dropout rate matches that of black kids. Absent affirmative action, not only are America’s colleges and universities but her professions are going to look far more Asian and white than the national population.

Not a formula for social peace.

Nor is it a formula for economic growth or long-term survival. Buchanan's title implies this demographic upheaval could be the death-knell of the GOP, but the real concern is what it portends for the country.

World history offers little comfort. For example, the Lebanese Civil War was sparked by a demographic shift in that country precipitated by the influx of Palestinians displaced by the Israeli military. Serbia lost the province of Kosovo because that region, despite its special place in Serbian history, had transformed into an Albanian enclave.

Makes me wonder if allowing in poor, embittered Mexicans into lands once controlled by their home country is a good idea.

Of course, this is America. In the Exceptional Nation, history, demographics, and racial conflict don't matter.

House Rejects Effort to End Afghan War

Of course it did.

That's as newsworthy a headline as "Crips decide to continue selling cocaine" or "Mafia dons to remain in protection racket."

DC is in the business of empire, and that means war. And as long as this monstrosity is allowed to do so, it will continue to snuff out innocent lives around the world in pursuit of power and profit.

It's what DC does.

Clyburn seeks 'national policy' legalizing same-sex marriages

Surprise! A leftist Democrat demands more power for the central government.

The leftist agenda can ONLY be imposed by force. That means big government, and THAT means centralizing all power in the hands of a few - or in the hands of one.

So once again, we see a blunt appeal to one-size-fits-all national policy, and the extinguishing of the sovereignty of the people of the states.

James Clyburn is advocating totalitarianism, the most anti-American, dangerous, and discredited policy in history.

The Tyranny of Liberalism

The Vital Remnants blog has published a post on James Kalb's The Tyranny of Liberalism. I have not read the book, but from what I've seen in the Vital Remnants post, it appears to be an intelligent and useful introduction to the pathology of leftist thought.

The conflict, says Kalb, is between traditional, organic society and the ideologues who think they can design society better than the people who are part of it, and thus help shape it. (I agree.) What leftists cannot comprehend is that there are things they cannot comprehend. Everything in life, they insist, can be analyzed, understood, and reconstructed for the better - preferably, by them.

Here's how Kalb summarizes the clash between the left and right:

"Discrimination and intolerance" are thus held to include those attitudes, habits, and ties--sex roles, historical loyalties, authoritative cultural understandings, religious commitments and teachings--on which independent, informal, traditional, and non-market institutions and arrangements normally rely in order to function and endure.

Because such arrangements operate on principles that are regarded as irrational, and because they are difficult to supervise and control in the interest of rationality and equal freedom, they have no place in advanced liberal society and are edged out as the social order progresses.

Of course, when given the chance to implement their policies, leftists fail miserably. Communism is the ultimate example. The reason communism failed is that the complex network of interactions among people simply cannot be reduced to a formula that central planners can manipulate. There's just too much information being generated to gather and index.

Sadly, the left never learns from its mistakes. It continues to insist that its ideals are so noble and pure that they MUST be best for everyone. Any perceived failure MUST be attributed to a lack of proper enforcement and inadequate implementation.

Lincoln on Professionalism

For its continuing education program, the North Carolina Bar is featuring a course entitled "Lincoln on Professionalism."

Loyal reader Steve has this to say:

This is an illustration of three important points:

1. It shows the rank hypocrisy of the megalomaniac who has become America's martyr/saint. A man who caused the deaths of at least 600 thousand of his countrymen in a a war to preserve an unholy "union" should have choked on the words "peacemaker" and "good man."

2. It is Exhibit A in a gallery of Southron self-delusion and the treason of our self-appointed leaders toward our history, culture and heritage. Note that this little exercise in idolatry is the work of Georgia lawyers, promoted by our own NC Bar Association.

3. A railroad lawyer who made a fortune buying land in the path of the Federally subsidized transcontinental railroad, and war criminal who had no serious rival, in terms of making war on helpless old people, women and children for almost 100 years, is being held up to lawyers as an example of professionalism.

I wonder if I can find a job driving a truck? I'm embarrassed to be a lawyer.

Quote of the day

"If you want to prevent future wars in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq, we have no choice but to break up the United States into smaller regions." Thomas Naylor

Governing Ourselves

Harold Thomas, who runs the Ohio Republic web site, has written a book that outlines the whys and hows of downsized, people-scaled government. More importantly, Governing Ourselves reminds us of what the Founders established, and zeroes in on how and where we've failed to nurture that legacy.

This is a book grounded in specifics. Instead of imagining a small-government utopia that somehow rises from the ashes of the DC Empire, Thomas shares his vision of how the eternal problems of individuals and communities can be addressed without an oversized, omnipotent central government.

The free society Thomas sees arising in a post-Leviathan America is described through the examples of three couples of the near-future, as well as that of a small businessman, a banker with "over one million silver dollars" in assets. Families and communities will look to networks of private organizations, churches, and local government to provide opportunities for individuals to solve problems and better their lives.

In Thomas' libertarian future, big government and big business are no longer problems, not because of secession or revolution, but because they have collapsed, apparently from overstretch. Industrialized "big Ag" industrial farms no longer put small family farms out of business because of "fines for environmental violations" and high fuel costs.

To keep it all real, Thomas points out present-day examples to bolster his case. For example, he argues that existing large cities can devolve to local control through a system similar to the arrondissements (departments) of Paris, each of which has its own mayor and council.

One possible objection to Thomas' libertarian approach to small government is that culture has historically determined the size and scope of government, and that libertarianism, which focuses on individual liberty, thereby de-emphasizing (ignoring?) cultural concerns, is not practical. An additional objection is that big government encourages the atomization of society into a random collection of individuals in order to deter its subject population from organizing opposition. The libertarian ideal of autonomous individuals, say such critics, would only play into the hands of big government.

Thomas does argue, however, that individuals will voluntarily cluster around culturally compatible communities. For example, those who want a socially conservative society that prohibits drugs and abortion can choose to live in such an area.

Governing Ourselves is a useful polemic stressing a Christian libertarian approach to government. It addresses many potential objections to downsized government. We've all encountered critics who claim that without the federal government, many social goods will vanish. Thomas argues that equal opportunity, ensuring the quality of food and drugs, and the threat of terrorism can be better addressed at the local level.

Governing Ourselves is a practical introduction to the local and state sovereignty movement, providing theoretical background from mostly familiar sources, such as the Founders. Harold Thomas has given us a highly readable and useful resource for liberty activists. Governing Ourselves can by ordered by clicking here.

African-American Church Leaders Condemn Obama For Gay Marriage Support

In groveling before the homosexual lobby, has Obama hurt his standing with his core supporters? It sure looks that way:

Just days after President Barack Obama announced his support for same-sex marriage, pastors and priests around Maryland took to their own pulpits with their reaction– and in some cases– condemnation of the president. ...

When President Obama announced that his position on same-sex marriage had evolved, it outraged some African-American pastors like Pastor and Del. Emmett Burns.

“He has said to his base, African-Americans, ‘I am going against your beliefs and your thoughts’,” Burns said.

That's exactly what Obama said with his risky announcement that he's now in favor of same-sex "marriage." Clearly, he's rolling the dice on this one. Will his gamble pay off in November?

This is going to be a wild campaign.

NY Mayor Bloomberg criticizes North Carolina on Amendment One

Speaking at the UNC-Chapel Hill's commencement today, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg got on his high horse to scold North Carolinians. Their vote to define traditional marriage last week tells him there's "a lot of work to be done for civil rights in this country."

Oh, really?

Maybe if and when Bloomberg takes a stand against his police profiling blacks, Latinos, and Muslims, he'll have a little more credibility. That's why the ACLU isn't happy with him.

I just love it when oh-so-virtuous Yankees take the time to travel here to tell us how we should be doing things. They must think it distracts from their own shortcomings.

Cooperation between US spy agency and Google to remain a secret

What the government knows about your computer use is none of your business:

The US Court of Appeals in Washington upheld a lower court decision that said the NSA need not confirm or deny any relationship with Google, because its governing statutes allow it keep such information secret. ...

"Any information pertaining to the relationship between Google and NSA would reveal protected information about NSA's implementation of its information assurance mission," Judge Janice Rogers Brown wrote in the appeals opinion.

See? Concerns about "privacy" are just a cover for anti-American, pro-terrorist activities.

Should the US go to war for Israel?

Here's Ron Paul, speaking on the House floor:

While I absolutely believe that Israel – and any other nation – should be free to determine for itself what is necessary for its national security, I do not believe that those decisions should be underwritten by US taxpayers and backed up by the US military.

This bill states that it is the policy of the United States to "reaffirm the enduring commitment of the United States to the security of the State of Israel as a Jewish state." However, according to our Constitution the policy of the United States government should be to protect the security of the United States, not to guarantee the religious, ethnic, or cultural composition of a foreign country. In fact, our own Constitution prohibits the establishment of any particular religion in the US.

Of course the people of Israel have the right to protect their culture - that's the soul of their nation; keeping that alive means the country they fought for will live into the future. Every people has that right.

But the cultural preservation of a foreign nation is not any of our business. Worse, the entire debate takes on a bizarre aspect when you recall that the official policy of the US is to depose its own majority culture.

Think I'm exaggerating? Check out this "anti-racist" screed:

What is racism? Racism is more than individual prejudice based on race. Racism is the power of a dominant group, through its systems and institutions, to enforce the dominant culture’s history, values, practices and beliefs. It advantages those in the dominant group and disadvantages those who are not. It results in disparities.

I've racked my brain, and can imagine nothing more insane than a government that openly undermines the traditional culture at home while upholding the culture of a foreign nation.

Huge Majority of Americans Supports Defense Cuts

Nation-building and empire just aren't fun any more. The more Americans learn about what they're being forced to pay for, the more they reject it. As this report notes, "Defense spending takes up about 65 percent of the discretionary budget, which adds up to more than the rest of the world’s military spending combined."

This is just the latest in the continuing collapse of oversized, interventionist government. Opposition is steadily growing against DC's entire agenda, including open borders, authoritarianism, and forced egalitarianism.

Obama’s gay marriage announcement followed by flood of campaign donations

I'm still a little in the dark as to why Obama did this. Why would anyone want to hitch his wagon to a fallen star? NC votes to affirm traditional marriage, and THEN Obama announces his support for same-sex "marriage." Huh?

Not only is he alienating blacks, his core constituency, he's in effect writing off swing states North Carolina and Virginia.

Does he really think he's going to renew the old spark of 2008? Will the millions from the homosexual lobby offset these negatives?

Looks like a major boo-boo to me.

Black voters in NC supported Amendment One by 2-1 margin

That's just one more dose of reality for those who imagine minorities are a progressive force energized and ready to oppose the forces of reactionary whites. But will leftists ever learn? Their only compass is an ideology that is nothing but a set of cherry-picked values appropriated from various sources, as opposed to a cultural tradition ratified by history. So leftist ideology has NO basis in reality, and in fact, is contrary to human nature. That's why leftists depend on outside force to impose their agenda (such as depending on activist judges and executive decrees to impose it).

Ken Berwitz has an announcement to make:

Some years ago I was a dues-paying member of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

I joined the SPLC as part of my commitment to fight race hatred - a commitment I feel every bit as deeply today as then.

But, years ago, I left the SPLC, because I felt it had become less an anti-racism organization and more a general-purpose left wing activist group, fighting one side of the problem while ignoring - and therefore tacitly supporting - the other side.

"Anti-racism" is just the latest new code word for the radical leftist agenda.

Wake County - Home of Tolerant Racism?

Wake County, North Carolina, was one of only eight counties to reject Amendment One, re-affirming Wake as one of the more liberal urban areas in the state.

But it is also the target of a discrimination complaint by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Seems Wake County schools have - and I'm not making this up - failed to send notices to Hispanic parents in Spanish, according to the SPLC and Advocates for Children’s Services.

Remember when immigrants adapted to the country they moved to? But these days, if immigrants haven't bothered to learn the language of their new home, it's the host country's problem, not the immigrants'.

Just goes to show the never-ending nature of the leftist agenda.

This day in history

In 1864, Union troops William T. Sherman secured Snake Creek Gap, Georgia.

In 1936, Fascist Italy annexed Ethiopia.

On both dates, armies headed south to deprive people of their right to self-determination.

Amendment One passes!

The NAACP, despite the fact that a vast majority of blacks support traditional marriage, agitated against Amendment One. So did the National Organization Against For Women, and various other liberal groups. And yet, despite millions spent on leftist, anti-family propaganda, the measure passed.

These groups knew their unpopular and unnatural agenda depends on the power of government to impose it. I think I've detected a trend here - when the people get to vote, traditional marriage wins. Same-sex "marriage" can only be imposed on us by courts and politicians.

Bipartisan act seeks to reaffirm 'America's unshakable commitment to Israel's security'

Here's an idea: instead of a government that wants us to sacrifice for a prosperous foreign nation armed with nuclear bombs, let's pick a government with an unshakable commitment to Americans for a change.

There's a slow-motion, Green-March style invasion from Latin America, but DC is worried about a foreign country 6,000 miles away?

This is insanity.

RNC official: Romney still deciding position on immigration reform

Romney's "Hispanic outreach" director says Romney's still thinking about his position on immigration reform. Yeah.

C'mon, every high school debate team member has an opinion on the top issues of the day - but we're supposed to believe that a professional politician does not?

What do you want to bet he'll figure it out AFTER we elect him to office?

And Obama's no better - he had originally planned on gracing North Carolina with his presence today, but for some STRANGE reason changed his mind. And he also claims his position on same-sex "marriage" is evolving. Like Rommey, his own mind will be a mystery to him until AFTER the election.

Is it possible Obama now realizes that taking a stand against the popular Amendment One, which will define marriage in the NC Constitution, could hurt his chances for winning the state in November?

USAF Drones May Conduct “Incidental” Domestic Surveillance

Warning: reading the following will cause headaches. Really:

U.S. Air Force policy permits the incidental collection of domestic imagery by unmanned aerial systems (drones), but ordinarily would not allow targeted surveillance of a U.S. person. The Air Force policy was restated in a newly reissued instruction on oversight of Air Force intelligence.

“Air Force Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) operations, exercise and training missions will not conduct nonconsensual surveillance on specifically identified US persons, unless expressly approved by the Secretary of Defense, consistent with US law and regulations,” the instruction stated.

On the other hand, “Collected imagery may incidentally include US persons or private property without consent.”

Holy cow, where to start? So - the Air Force promises it won't conduct "nonconsensual surveillance" - as if ANYONE ever gave consent to be monitored by a drone?

As if that wasn't sufficiently bizarre, it goes on to say that "nonconsensual surveillance" WILL be conducted as long as the Secretary of Defense gives his okey-dokey. There - that should silence all those Bill of Rights extremists.

And even if he DOESN'T approve it, the Air Force might take surveillance photos of you "incidentally." Is that like "collateral damage" to your right to privacy?

All right, enough America-hating, anti-government ranting. Go back to watching "Dancing with the Stars."

Nationalism returns

Pat Buchanan sees the globalist project in peril, thanks to the recent elections that toppled European governments:

Nationalism—be it economic nationalism or ethnic nationalism—is ascendant. Transnationalism and multiculturalism are in headlong if not irreversible retreat. The European project is itself imperiled.

To be sure, no one should underestimate the commitment of Europe's elites to the vision of One Europe as challenger to the United States. In the capitals and corporate headquarters of the continent, these elites are, almost to a man and woman, devout Europeans.

Pat attributes to Marine Le Pen this summary of the professional politicians' treatment of heartland voters: "They call us racists, protectionists and xenophobes. Then they come asking for our endorsement, echo our words and seek our votes."

Ain't that the truth? It's enough to make you wonder how stupid they think we are. But then again, we've been easily fooled before - even to the point where we're assured that supporting same-sex "marriage" is the "conservative" thing to do, and that assenting to unwarranted searches and indefinite detention safeguards our freedom.

So why shouldn't politicians think they can pull the wool over our eyes once again? Or have we finally learned better?

Will history repeat itself?

Rep. Ron Paul warns of what can happen if the US tries to maintain its grip on its worldwide empire:

The Soviets believed the road to their goal for a universal form of government ran through Afghanistan. They were also wrong and paid an enormous price. However, after nine years and 15,000 Soviet lives lost, the Communist regime in Moscow realized its mistake and withdrew from that country. The Soviet withdrawal was complete in early 1989. The Soviet Union by that time had further plunged into economic crisis, fueled in great part by its commitment to maintain a global empire of client states. Later that year, the Soviet world began crashing down, with first the collapse of Eastern European regimes and then the Soviet Union itself.

Hmmm ... An overextended military ... economic crisis ... out-of-touch politicians determined to protect their power and privilege.

My, that sounds familiar.

Liberal hypocrisy on same-sex "marriage"

It's hysterical how liberals use the language of conservatism to push their agenda. Here in North Carolina, liberals are resorting to deceptive slogans in their campaign against Amendment One, which will define marriage as between one man and one woman. Liberals claim they oppose the amendment so they can "keep government out of our lives" and expand the "institution of marriage" to homosexuals. This blatant hypocrisy reveals how desperate liberals are - the latest polls indicate voters will approve the amendment by a comfortable margin.

But to borrow a slogan from the homosexual lobby, "It gets better!" The latest Creative Loafing features what's supposed to be a tear-jerker about two women who, we're told, live in fear of Amendment One. They live that life of fear in their posh lakefront home on Lake Norman. One is described as the director of marketing for Wells Fargo and the other is a "stay-at-home mom," which is normally a term of derision for leftists.

What the article conveniently leaves out is that same-sex "marriage" is ALREADY illegal in North Carolina by statute. The amendment will only protect existing law against judicial activism.

Liberals - you just can't trust 'em!

Quote of the day

“Immigration gives liberals their cheap cause and conservatives their cheap labor.” Edward Abbey

Every president is a war president

What if you discovered your family was in the Mafia? Could you go on with your daily routine, ignoring where your income came from? Would occasional contributions to worthy causes pacify your concerns?

No? Well, we as Americans are supporting a criminal enterprise much bloodier than the Mafia. From war profiteers Halliburton, Lockheed-Martin, and Raytheon, to the ranks of the gropers in the TSA, DC's vast command-and-control apparatus consumes tax dollars by the trillions, all for the benefit of politically connected big business. War is the engine that keeps the entire hellish mechanism turning.

Your tax dollars at work.

And don't imagine for a moment that electing a new president will make any difference. As Steve Chapman points out, DC stays in business through force and fraud, promising peace to naive voters, and magnifying (or even inventing!) threats to justify yet another crusade against "evil-doers," which is anyone who defies DC:

"Romney and Obama may pretend they represent stark differences in America's approach to national security and world affairs. But in this realm, there is no Democratic or Republican party. There is only the war party."

So forget the happy talk about DC's armed forces protecting "freedom" and exporting "democracy." The business of America is gore and suffering, period.

N.C.’s rural areas offer strongest support for gay marriage ban

The latest polls suggest Amendment One, which will affirm traditional marriage in the North Carolina constitution, will pass this Tuesday, thanks largely to vigorous support in small towns and rural areas:

It’s the rural regions – where homemade pro-amendment signs share roadside space with mass-produced ones – that are expected to carry the amendment to passage, according to recent polls. North Carolina is the only Southern state without a marriage amendment. ...

In rural areas, signs of support for the amendment are common, like down a stretch of N.C. 27 in Iron Station in Lincoln County. Anti-amendment signs are more dominate in urban areas, including several of Charlotte’s neighborhoods.

Thomas Jefferson could've predicted this vote over 200 years ago:

"I view great cities as pestilential to the morals, the health and the liberties of man."

"The mobs of great cities add just so much to the support of pure government, as sores do to the strength of the human body. It is the manners and spirit of a people which preserve a republic in vigour. A degeneracy in these is a canker which soon eats to the heart of its laws and constitution."

Jefferson recognized cities as artificial habitats that cut individuals off from nature, creating a perverse culture of dependence and indulgence. It's no mystery that leftists congregate in big cities, the only place where their anti-human agenda can be implemented.

Occupy violence is different

For the record:

The Occupy movement has a horrific record of violence. Occupy Wall Street Exposed has counted a dozen deaths, including three murders; more than a dozen rapes; more than 25 disgusting cases of indecent exposure, public defecation, etc; more than 500 thefts; more than 6,800 arrests; and in excess of $12 million in property damage. A sorry record by any standard.

If any conservative or border security group had a record 1/10th as bad, the left blogosphere would've gone ballistic.

I say we're WAY too easy on these goons.

US should return stolen land to Indian tribes, says United Nations

And who says the UN is totally useless? This is TOO rich:

A United Nations investigator probing discrimination against Native Americans has called on the US government to return some of the land stolen from Indian tribes as a step toward combatting continuing and systemic racial discrimination.

James Anaya, the UN special rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, said no member of the US Congress would meet him as he investigated the part played by the government in the considerable difficulties faced by Indian tribes.

Anaya said that in nearly two weeks of visiting Indian reservations, indigenous communities in Alaska and Hawaii, and Native Americans now living in cities, he encountered people who suffered a history of dispossession of their lands and resources, the breakdown of their societies and "numerous instances of outright brutality, all grounded on racial discrimination".

And while they're at it, they can return Southerners' right of self-determination, too. Then we can talk reparations.

This is happening in America?

Nat Hentoff relates what happened when he shocked college students with the news that President Obama now has the power to imprison Americans indefinitely without a trial. Their reaction encouraged him, and he was also glad to hear that some State and local governments are taking a stand against this affront to the Bill of Rights.

Still, he argues, there should be more outrage against the government:

Where are the Sons of Liberty, the Committees of Correspondence and the insistently courageous city councils now, when they are crucially needed to bring back the Bill of Rights that protect every American against government tyranny worse than King George III's?

Many are afraid to speak out. If you're against ANYTHING Obama does, you'll be accused of having "racist" motives. Housebroken "conservatives" will scream you're supporting the terrorists. And if you point out that the root problem is an arrogant, overgrown federal government that has ignored Constitutional constraints, you'll be denounced as a "Neo-Confederate" or "anti-government" extremist.

If we can be silenced by mere name-calling, we're sunk. Period.

Nancy Pelosi - Champion of States' Rights?

One of the reasons monolithic nation-states are disappearing is that regional and cultural differences are real. California is different from South Carolina, and both are different from Afghanistan. And with the end of the communism and the ideology-based superstate, those differences are not only becoming more important in determining political policy, but are going to become even more pronounced.

So don't be surprised as old coalitions totter and fade away. For example, while left-wingers Nancy Pelosi and Barack Hussein Obama agree on a lot ideologically, Obama's loyalties are with the federal machinery of power and control, while Pelosi's are with the people of California:

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi has joined critics of the Obama administration's campaign against medical marijuana suppliers in California, saying the government is endangering patients and undermining its own proclaimed policy of deferring to states on the issue.

"I have strong concerns about the recent actions by the federal government that threaten the safe access of medical marijuana to alleviate the suffering of patients in California," the San Francisco congresswoman said in a statement Wednesday. ... The California Democrat said that medical marijuana is “both a medical and a states’ rights issue.” ...

"I have long supported efforts in Congress to advocate federal policies that recognize the scientific evidence and clinical research demonstrating the medical benefits of medicinal marijuana (and) that respects the wishes of the states in providing relief to ill individuals," she said.

Nancy Pelosi, Neo-Confederate. Yeah.

War on Freedom update

Like a thief in the night, Obama had to sneak into Kabul to launch his re-election campaign in Kabul. (The Taliban attacks launched hours later demonstrated the lack of security that made Obama's hasty dash in and out necessary.) In that speech, which was obviously aimed at winning votes, Obama strutted and bragged about bagging bin Laden. All to keep us safe from harm, he assured us.

Do you feel safer? Glenn Greenwald lists the actual accomplishments of Obama's regime:

In the wake of Osama bin Laden’s summary execution one year ago, many predicted that the War on Terror would finally begin to recede. Here’s what has happened since then:

*With large bipartisan majorities, Congress renewed the once-controversial Patriot Act without a single reform, and it was signed into law by President Obama; Harry Reid accused those urging reforms of putting the country at risk of a Terrorist attack.

* For the first time, perhaps ever, a U.S. citizen was assassinated by the CIA, on orders from the President, without a shred of due process and far from any battlefield; two weeks later, his 16-year-old American son was also killed by his own government; the U.S. Attorney General then gave a speech claiming the President has the power to target U.S. citizens for death based on unproven, secret accusations of Terrorism.

* With large bipartisan majorities, Congress enacted, and the President signed, a new law codifying presidential powers of worldwide indefinite detention and an expanded statutory definition of the War on Terror.

* Construction neared completion for a sprawling new site in Utah for the National Security Agency to enable massive domestic surveillance and to achieve “the realization of the ‘total information awareness’ program created during the first term of the Bush administration.”

But let's not fool ourselves into thinking that such assaults on our liberties will end if Obama loses in November. After all, Obama is simply building on George W. Bush's legacy. And should Romney beat Obama, rest assured he'll push the same anti-freedom agenda.

Why, it's enough to make you think the central government is the real enemy.

People with rocks for brains shouldn't throw bricks

An Occupy protester throws bricks at the police, and hits a fellow Occupier. The idiot celebrates as EMTs haul the victim away. Amazing.

Warren Says She’s Proud of Being American Indian

I'm sure she is. From the New York Times:

Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday defended her decision to identify herself as a minority in a directory of law professors in the 1980s and ’90s, saying that she hoped it would help her “meet more people who had grown up like I had grown up.”

Taking questions after an event in Braintree, Mass. — and speaking publicly about the controversy for the first time since Friday, when The Boston Herald first wrote about it — Ms. Warren also responded forcefully to allegations from her Republican opponent, Senator Scott P. Brown, that she had claimed American-Indian ancestry to advance her academic career.

And don't forget - Warren says she's only 1/32nd Indian. You know what that means:

Occupy protesters not violent!

I've been catching flak over at Conservative Heritage Times for yesterday's post on the Occupiers' plot to blow up a Cleveland bridge. "They were set up!"

Sure they were. It's not like the Occupy Movement actually attracts goons who both advocate and commit violent acts. Check out this video from Seattle. BTW, notice how many anarchist, communist, and open borders supporters showed up. Very revealing.

Five arrested in anti-BofA protest

Things are getting scary in the buttoned-down banking town:

A spokesperson for the groups vowed additional protests in Charlotte during the next week, saying they will test the city’s new ordinance limiting such actions.

The Rainforest Action Network said its members were responsible for Wednesday’s banner, which carried the message “Bank of Coal.” On the banner, the word “America” was crossed out and replaced with “coal.”

Looks like the kind of organized insanity that nearly struck Cleveland Monday is heading our way. Charlotte is a major banking center (and you know how much anger is felt toward banks these days) as well as the oh-so-lucky host city for the Democratic National Convention.

You know what that means: every whacko with a beef is going to descend on Charlotte this summer, pumped up and ready for trouble. As the temperature rises, activists are going to notch up the heat even more by chanting, marching, and who knows what else as they pile into the streets for the Dream Act, for Trayvon Martin, for amnesty, for foreclosure relief, for - well, you get the idea.

I'll be doing my Howard Hughes impersonation, hiding in the confines of my little house, avoiding downtown as if my life depended on it. And who knows - it might just!

US Underreporting NATO-Afghan Troop Clashes

Wait - OUR government isn't telling us the truth? Say it ain't so!

Occupy protesters tried to blow up Ohio bridge

Luckily for us, Occupiers are easily recognized from a distance by their oddball hairstyles.

Here's part of the story, from US News:

Federal agents have arrested five people who were plotting to blow up a bridge near Cleveland, Ohio, an incident not connected to the anniversary of former al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden's death, officials say.

Douglas L. Wright, 26, Brandon L. Baxter, 20, and Anthony Hayne, 35, were arrested by members of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force on April 30 on charges of conspiracy and attempted use of explosive materials to damage physical property affecting interstate commerce. Also arrested were Connor C. Stevens, 20, and Joshua S. Stafford, 23.

But what's a news story without context? Isn't it significant that at least one of these anarchists was part of the Occupy movement, which has a history of violence? I think so, but hey, that's me. Instead, the report only identifies the suspects as "anarchists." Here's a report on Brandon Baxter's earlier run-in with the law. And here's Baxter's Facebook page.

If a Tea Party or other conservative activist had done anything remotely like this, the left side of the blogosphere would be screaming about it, and the mainstream media would be screaming along with them. Apparently, I'm the only blogger who knows the secret of Google.

UPDATE: It appears the other anarchists arrested with Baxter were also part of the Occupy Cleveland movement.

Another hate crime!

Colorlines, one of George Soros' pet projects, is a leftist "think tank." Its latest campaign aims to ban the term "illegal immigrant" from public conversation:

Drop the I-Word is a public education campaign powered by immigrants and diverse communities across the country that value human dignity and are working to eradicate the dehumanizing slur "illegals" from everyday use and public discourse. The i-word opens the door to racial profiling and violence and prevents truthful, respectful debate on immigration. No human being is illegal.

No, they're not illegal. Just undocumented.

The goal, of course, is to replace the troublesome traditional population with a more compliant, Third-World population. One way to achieve that is to render the current majority unable to resist the slow-motion takeover of their own country and its transformation into a Third-World socialist paradise. The Applied Research Center, which funds Colorlines, openly agitates for the leftist agenda. George Orwell described how it's done:

Newspeak is closely based on English but has a greatly reduced and simplified vocabulary and grammar. This suits the totalitarian regime of the Party, whose aim is to make any alternative thinking—"thoughtcrime", or "crimethink" in the newest edition of Newspeak—impossible by removing any words or possible constructs which describe the ideas of freedom, rebellion and so on.

The war on language is only one front in the war against Western civilization.
