2012: The Year in PC

You owe it to yourself to pour a second cup of coffee and savor this review of the past year's low points of politically correct idiocy. It's by Jim Goad, so you know you're in for laughs galore.

Importing misogyny

The international outrage over the brutal gang rape of a young woman in Delhi exposes some deep-seated and undesirable attitudes in Indian culture. Here's an analysis entitled, Why India Is So Damn Violent:

But in a country with an abysmally low rate of convictions for rape and other crimes against women, (26% last year, down from 46% in the 1970s) it seems to me pointless to fixate on ratcheting up the penalty further. Consider that out of 635 cases of rape reported in Delhi this past year only one has led to a conviction.

What’s more, an exclusive focus on the crime of rape also obscures the fact that India’s a violent place for men as it is for women and children. Let’s not forget that the male companion of the young woman who died was himself beaten and badly injured.

As pointed out by economist Swaminathan Aiyar, Bollywood films are replete with scenes characterized by the harassment of women and even of rape. As he writes, one particular well-known screen villain did about 100 rape scenes “with the audience almost cheering him on.”
The BBC's report on this horrendous crime reinforces the view that the brutal treatment of women in India is widespread and accepted as normal:

Female foetuses are aborted and baby girls killed after birth, leading to an an appallingly skewed sex ratio. Many of those who survive face discrimination, prejudice, violence and neglect all their lives, as single or married women.

TrustLaw, a news service run by Thomson Reuters, has ranked India as the worst country in which to be a woman.
It's enough to make you wonder if the leftists who are so gaga about Third-World immigration have really considered the cultural practices they're importing.

Senate Renews FISA Warrantless Wiretapping

Everyone's worried about the "fiscal cliff," but we went off the constitutional cliff a long time ago. This secret surveillance bill, which is a direct assault on the Fourth Amendment, makes that pretty clear.

Public dissatisfaction with EU growing

As Scotland and Catalonia prepare for historic independence votes, there's more rumbling within the European Union:

The public mood of Euroscepticism is hardening, according to an exclusive Guardian/ICM poll that finds 51% of respondents would vote to take Britain out of the EU, against just 40% who say they would vote to stay in.

The news comes as the prime minister prepares to give a widely anticipated speech on Britain's relationship with the EU in the new year.

The last time ICM asked the same question, in autumn 2011, opinion was already leaning in the anti-European direction, by 49% against 40%, but a slight hardening of opinion since that time means that anti-EU feeling is now just in the majority.
The dreams of Napoleon, Hitler, and Stalin for a European superstate once seemed to have come true in the European Union. But once again, nationalism has triumphed over ideology.

Quote of the day

"This, then, remains a country in a Cold Civil War - not far off the geographical contours of the first, but with the inheritors of the Confederacy concentrated in the South and now also with serious pockets of absolutists in the more rural parts of the country as a whole." Andrew Sullivan, pseudo-conservative

Sullivan's right, but not for the reason he imagines. Yes, there IS a "Cold Civil War" roiling the political waters today - and just as in 1861, it's being fought to determine if we are to preserve our traditional culture and liberties, or if an overgrown central government will again sponsor a revolution. If DC wins this time around, we can expect the criminalization of ALL firearms, the confiscation of private retirement accounts, and the Third-Worldization of America.

Alexander Stephens' prediction that the cause of the South would become the cause of all has been vindicated.

The Dawning of Domestic Drones

Why secession?

I was asked that question on an NPR show a few years back. I responded that big governments ALWAYS become tyrannical and self-destructive. The host, Mike Collins, couldn't believe his ears when I said that elections were pointless in this country because DC's policies remain unchanged.

We've argued before that DC's quest for empire is behind almost every problem we face today, from deficit spending, to open borders, to the loss of our liberty.

This story should convince even the most true-blue of true believers that our DC overlords are building a totalitarian infrastructure as fast as they can:

The drones are coming to a neighborhood near you.

The unmanned aircraft that most people associate with hunting terrorists and striking targets in Pakistan are on the brink of evolving into a big domestic industry. It is not a question of whether drones will appear in the skies above the United States but how soon.

Congress has ordered the Federal Aviation Administration to quickly select six domestic sites to test the safety of drones, which can vary in size from remote-controlled planes as big as jetliners to camera-toting hoverers called Nano Hummingbirds that weigh 19 grams.
Odd that this is being done while DC proposes disarming Americans, isn't it? Just a coincidence, I suppose.

McRib as "Southern barbecue"?

While working out today, I heard an ad on the radio for McDonald's McRib sandwich. They had the audacity to describe the sauce as a "tribute to North Carolina barbecue."

What heresy!

I do not eat at fast-food joints. Not only are they selling slop, they displace local cuisine. I see "fast food" as just another anti-human concoction of the Empire.

The "rib" part of the McRib is actually something called a "restructured meat product" that has been molded into the shape of a rack of ribs. With each bite, you're ingesting, along with 70 other ingedients, a flour-bleaching agent called azodicarbonamide, which is also used in the manufacture of foamed plastics.

This sandwich of abominations also packs 11 grams of processed sugars in that gelatinous red goo they DARE call "barbecue sauce."

You have been warned.

An Offer to Peacefully Secede

A politician from Texas has asked gun owners to punish themselves for something they didn’t do:

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) on Wednesday afternoon urged people to turn in their guns, arguing it would be an appropriate response to last week’s mass shooting in Newtown, Conn.

“I would personally just say to those who are listening, maybe you want to turn in your guns,” Jackson Lee said on the House floor. “Oh no, I’m not going to take your guns. But look at what Dick’s Sporting Goods did … they wanted to be part of the solution and part of America.”

Let me get this straight… if I don’t turn in my guns then I’m not part of the solution and therefore not part of America? Deal! If I can secede from this country by the simple act of keeping my firearms then I’m entirely on board.

Our DC overlords will continue reading our emails

Remember, they only want to watch over and protect you:

The federal government will continue to access Americans’ emails without a warrant, after the U.S. Senate dropped a key amendment to legislation now headed to the White House for approval.

Currently, the government can collect emails and other cloud data without a warrant as long as the content has been stored on a third-party server for 180 days or more. Federal agents need only demonstrate that they have “reasonable grounds to believe” the information would be useful in an investigation.
Just think - some people thought electing a liberal Democrat to the White House would restore our liberty.

Another murder by an Afghan "ally"

Here's the story:

An Afghan policewoman gunned down a US military adviser inside the Interior Ministry today. The insider, or green-on-blue, attack is the first in nearly six weeks, and the first recorded by a female member of the Afghan security forces.

The policewoman, who was identified as Nargis, is "assigned to the gender and equality department" at the Afghan Interior Ministry, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

"She fired one shot at the advisor, a construction engineer, in the head at close range," according to the Afghan news agency.

Interesting that the killer was in the Afghan "gender and equality" department. I'd say she was fed up with DC-style "diversity."

Self-determination advances in Spain

The government supremacists in Europe and here at home aren't going to like this:

Separatists in the Spanish region of Catalonia moved one step closer to independence on Tuesday when the two largest pro-independence parties announced their intention to form an alliance and push for a referendum in 2014. As the New York Times notes, these two parties hail from opposite ends of the political spectrum and have failed to see eye-to-eye for years. The fact that they are now uniting suggests that Catalonia is getting serious about independence.
Why would the Catalonians want to break away from the central governmnet in Madrid? Oversized governments have their own agendas, with war topping the list. For example, though opposed by most Spaniards, Madrid participated in DC's illegal invasion of Iraq. Rather that spreading democracy, that war only sowed hatred and needless suffering, including the Madrid Train Bombings of 2004, which were in retaliation for Madrid's entry into that war. As a result, 191 Spanish civilians were killed, and nearly 1,800 were wounded.

And of course, the human toll in Iraq is ongoing.

Add to that Madrid's bottomless appetite for taxes taken from productive Catalonians, which Madrid squanders for its own benefit, and it's no wonder so many have had enough.

Gun control in US would spark "a new civil war"

That's the opinion of this BBC reporter - and he might be right:

Justin Webb, one of the presenters of BBC Radio's Today programme, has tweeted something true, unpalatable and – in the circumstances – rather brave in response to the Connecticut school shootings. "A real effort to reduce gun ownership in America would result in a rural/metro and north/south divide and something like a new civil war," he wrote.
There is a sharp divide between the North and the South on guns, as there are on many other issues (that's why we tried to peacefully secede a few years back).

And that's why secession makes sense today. If you're angry at the central government for ramming down its agenda concerning guns, abortion, open borders, taxation, or whatever, why bother joining a single-issue organization that can only swat at one thing at a time? Save your money for the League of the South, and put it to work where it can address the root of all the problems caused by DC.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. I'm cutting back!

President Obama ordered the cabinet to cut $100,000,000.00 ($100 million) from the $3,500,000,000,000.00 ($3.5 trillion) federal budget.

I'm so impressed by this sacrifice that I have decided to do the same thing with my personal budget. I spend about $2,000 a month on groceries, household expenses, medicine, utilities, etc., but it's time to get out the budget cutting axe, go through my expenses, and cut back.

I'm going to cut my spending by exactly the same ratio (1/35,000) of my total budget. After doing the math, it looks like instead of spending $2,000 a month, I'm going to have to cut that number by six cents. Yes, I'm going to have to get by with $1999.94. But after all - isn't that what's sacrifice is all about?

I'll just have to do without some things, that are, frankly, luxuries – six cents worth!

Southern Music Break

From a reader:

I've been enjoying "Rebellion Blog" for quite a while, I appreciate the hard work you put in to it.

I sent a link to Kelsey Klingensmith's new music video "Country Mess" a little bit earlier this morning. I hope you enjoy it. This gal is real nice, so is her family. They are Christian and the good kind of conservatives. They seem more like Southerners than a lot of Southerners I've met.

She is very respectful, kind, and has the kind of values I would wish for in a daughter. She even helped the news interviewer carry some of his equipment. She is very much not stuck up.

I am not getting paid by them in any way, I just feel like she has a heart of gold and deserves as much success and help as she can get.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Torture Superpower

Think the sadistic policies of Bush/Cheney ended with the election of Barack Obama? Think again:

The president, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, has made it clear that no further investigations or inquiries will be made into America’s decade of torture. His Justice Department failed to prosecute a single torturer or any of those who helped cover up evidence of the torture practices. But it did deliver a jail sentence to one ex-CIA officer who refused to be trained to torture and was among the first at the CIA to publicly admit that the torture program was real.

At what passes for trials at our prison camp in Guantanamo, Cuba, disclosure of the details of torture is forbidden, effectively preventing anyone from learning anything about what the CIA did with its victims. We are encouraged to do what’s best for America and, as Barack Obama put it, “look forward, not backward,” with the same zeal as, after 9/11, we were encouraged to save America by going shopping.
Sometimes I wonder just how evil the Evil Empire must be before people reject it and refuse to continue supporting it.

Almost as useful as "racism"

I am speaking, of course, of the definition of "assault weapons." From Wikipedia:

Assault weapon is a term which has been given many different meanings. One is that it is any of various automatic and semiautomatic military firearms using an intermediate cartridge. ... A common usage is to interchange the term with assault rifle, but unlike that term, "assault weapon" has no consistent or specific definition and so is subject to varying definitions for varying purposes, including definitions that include common non-military-style firearms.
The protean, leftist term "racism" was coined to descredit conservatives and justify socialism. It's still used to silence critics and advance the leftist agenda. It's not a term to clarify and persuade, it's a biased term designed to shame and silence.

Similarly, the current furor about "assault weapons" is also biased against gun owners. The term is designed to inspire fear in the minds of those who don't know better. It conjures up the image of a homicidal maniac whose only purpose is to assault others - implying that's the only kind of person who would want to own such a weapon.

The flexibility of the definition of assault weapons is what makes it useful to those who wish to see citizens unarmed and defenseless. It's used to describe any gun that frightens the average metrosexual progressive, which means ANY gun other than an antique in a museum.

It's all about the expansion of government power, not safety. So when Obama scolded those who refuse to surrender their gun rights, he was paving the way for boosting the power of the government and placing more restrictions on citizens - that's exactly what he meant by "Are we prepared to say that such violence visited on our children year after year after year is somehow the price of our freedom?"

Re-read that last line. That was a diabolically clever bit of rhetoric. But it's based on a false assumption, one we need to expose, and we can best do that by arming ourselves with the facts. Here's a good place to start.

Guns are not the problem

Government supremacists, both left and right, deeply fear armed citizens. They prefer unarmed subjects. Sovereignty, in their minds, can only emanate from the top, and the right of self-defense belongs exclusively to the sovereign power. That's why they get antsy whenever the topic of State Rights comes up - it's unthinkable to them. All power legitimately belongs to the central authority.

Gun ownership is a direct threat to their conception of authority.

Of course, they don't talk that way in public. Oh, no, they're concerned for your safety. And wouldn't you know that Thomas Sowell, that great iconoclast of big-government leftism, has the perfect response to the gun-grabbers:

When it comes to the rate of gun ownership, that is higher in rural areas than in urban areas, but the murder rate is higher in urban areas. The rate of gun ownership is higher among whites than among blacks, but the murder rate is higher among blacks. For the country as a whole, hand gun ownership doubled in the late 20th century, while the murder rate went down.
You'll definitely want to read the whole thing.

The War on Guns begins

Because an insane man can't be trusted with guns, we have to rescind the 2nd Amendment.

Sounds ridiculous? There are precedents for this kind of thinking:

Because jihadists in the US have committed mass murder, we have to do away with the 4th Amendment's prohibition against lawful search and seizure.

Because criminal aliens come to this country to plot terrorism, we have to ignore the 6th Amendment's guarantee of a trial.

Because a suspect won't tell interrogators what they want to know, we have to forget the 8th Amendment's prohibition against torture.

There. Feel safer?

The Rebellion Christmas Post

This time of year, newspaper editorial pages will reprint the famous letter assuring little Virginia O'Hanlon that there is indeed a Santa Claus.

Here at Rebellion, we have our own Christmas tradition. Since many families will be buying Christmas trees this weekend, it's an appropriate time to reprint Ed Sebesta's anti-Southern classic, "No Plantation Christmas."

First-time readers of this blog and even readers of pro-Empire blogs don't believe Sebesta is real. But he is, as the following quote will prove. Like all of Sebesta's masterpieces, it has to be read to be believed.

No Plantation Christmas

Here in Texas we have Christmas Tree Farms and Christmas Tree Plantations. I would hope that no one would buy a tree from a Christmas Tree Plantation.

Now, I know that technically that a plantation is a farm with an organized labor force in the production of some agricultural product. A plantation is the agricultural equivalent of a factory. However, in some contexts, its meaning is fixed as mean Old South Plantation, in some cases it is stated as such.

We support banal white nationalism when we purchase these products. We promote the fantasy that the Old South Plantation was desireable and erase the crimes of slavery. Purchasing "plantation" labeled products, the purchaser is complicit the historical falsifaction of the "Old South Plantation" myth and is guilty of aiding and abetting banal white nationalism. With the great many products available to the consumer, there is no reason to purchase plantation-labeled products other than to consume the Old South Plantation fantasy. No one is going to suffer even the most minor hardship by purchasing something other than some "plantation" labeled product.

And yes, the "creative" spelling, psychedelic syntax, and anti-Southern obsession are original.

What did I tell you? Nothing sets the tone for the Season like one of Sebesta's grim, preachy jeremiads. Nothing.

And have a Merry, very Southern Christmas!

How corrupt is the DC Empire?

This corrupt:

According a report by the Associated Press, political appointees at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) repeatedly instructed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents not to arrest an illegal alien sex offender who was employed as an unpaid intern in the office of Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) until after the elections.
At least Caligula threw some fun parties ...

Obama wept

In his remarks about the murder of 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, Obama tearfully called for "meaningful action" to prevent such shootings in the future, though he did not offer specifics. He plans to attend a memorial service for the victims.

But for some reason, he's had nothing to say about the hundreds of children he's had killed. In his first four years in office, Obama has ordered 283 drone strikes in Pakistan, six times more than W the Conqueror authorized.

"Breathtaking" expansion of citizen surveillance

What's the difference between the Bush and Obama administrations? If Bush/Cheney had pulled something like this, the left would've rioted. But Obama can gut the Bill of Rights and get away with it:

The rules now allow the little-known National Counterterrorism Center to examine the government files of U.S. citizens for possible criminal behavior, even if there is no reason to suspect them. That is a departure from past practice, which barred the agency from storing information about ordinary Americans unless a person was a terror suspect or related to an investigation.
Looks like Harry Belafonte and Al Sharpton will get their wish.

The housebroken right is hardly blameless. They defended the USA Patriot Act in the name of fighting terrorism, and supported W the Conqueror's Department of Homeland Security. All a part of their chest-thumping support of W's "wars of liberation," you see.

Those of us who warned that government power is ALWAYS misused were shouted down as "unpatriotic" and even "un-American." But what's more un-American than tyranny?

Judge finds racial bias played a role in three death row cases

In the name of "racial justice," a North Carolina judge has overturned the death sentences of three murderers. Here's an introduction to the "victims of racism" the court has spared:

A Cumberland County judge has sentenced three death row inmates to life in prison without possibility for parole after finding that racial discrimination in jury selection played a key role in securing their death sentences.

Judge Gregory Weeks issued the ruling on Thursday for Tilmon Golphin, Christina Walters and Quintel Augustine after the challenged their sentences under the 2009 Racial Justice Act.

Walters was convicted of killing two women in a gang initiation ritual. Golphin was convicted of murdering two law enforcement officers at a traffic stop. Augustine was convicted of killing a Fayetteville police officer.
Commenting on the case, Ken Rose of the Center for Death Penalty Litigation proclaimed that the ruling proves "our capital punishment system is infected by racial bias."

But if that's true, then SOMEONE had to commit an act of racial bias. Who was it? What exactly did this person do that demonstrated racial bias? Is Mr. Rose going to prosecute that person?

Or is it possible that no single perpetrator can be identified because "racism" is what defines Western society? I think that's what Rose is claiming. He's not alone - that argument can be found here. And if that is the case, then the entire fabric of Western culture must be dismantled. Private property, the right of association, inheritance, any aspect of a free society that results in a "disparate impact" for protected minorities is a target. We are racing toward Third-World anarchy.

Death as national policy

Iran, Guatemala, Chile - those are just a few of the countries that have suffered from the illegal and immoral acts of "The Company" - the CIA. How many people has "The Company" killed? According to a former CIA insider, death and misery in the name of "national security" and private profit are routine:

In 1987, the former CIA station chief in Angola, John Stockwell, said that the CIA was responsible for tens of thousands of covert actions and destabilization programs since its inception. At the time, Stockwell estimated that over 6 million people had died in CIA covert actions. Former State Department official and author William Blum has called this an “American Holocaust.”
Your tax dollars at work. And folks wonder why we refer to DC as the "Evil Empire."

Obama a "Third-World dicatator"?

On his MSNBC show, Al Sharpton asked Harry Belafonte about the right-wing challenge to Obama's agenda. Belafonte asserted that Obama has "a mandate" and offered this suggestion: "The only thing left for Barack Obama to do is to work like a Third-World dictator and put all these guys in jail."

Al Sharpton giggled at the prospect.

The Afghan Quarterback

The coach had put together the perfect team for the Chicago Bears. The only thing that was missing was a good quarterback. He had scouted all the colleges and even the Canadian and European Leagues, but he couldn't find a ringer who could ensure a Super Bowl win.

Then one night while watching CNN he saw a war-zone scene in Afghanistan. In one corner of the background, he spotted a young Afghan Muslim soldier with a truly incredible arm. He threw a hand-grenade straight into a 15th story window 100 yards away.

He threw another hand-grenade 75 yards away, right into a chimney.

Then he threw another at a passing car going 90 mph.

"I've got to get this guy!" Coach said to himself. "He has the perfect arm!"

So, he brings him to the States and teaches him the great game of football. And the Bears go on to win the Super Bowl. The young Afghan is hailed as the great hero of football, and when the coach asks him what he wants, all the young man wants is to call his mother.

"Mom," he says into the phone, "I just won the Super Bowl!"

"I don't want to talk to you, the old Muslim woman says."You are not my son!"

"I don't think you understand, Mother," the young man pleads. "I've won the greatest sporting event in the world. I'm here among thousands of my adoring fans."

"No! Let me tell you!" his mother retorts. "At this very moment, there are gunshots all around us. The neighborhood is a pile of rubble. Your two brothers were beaten within an inch of their lives last week, and I have to keep your sister in the house so she doesn't get raped!" The old lady pauses, and then tearfully says,

"I will never forgive you for making us move to Chicago !!!!"

"It is a modern mistake to think that great personalities can grow without being rooted in the rich soil of the past, in the memory of great deeds and in fidelity to promises made across the generations." Stratford Caldecott, from his analysis of Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.

US War Crimes Bring Huge War Profits

Madeleine Albright, James Pardew, Wesley Clark - all the liberal Wilsonians who convinced Americans to support their "wars of liberation" have reaped huge profits from their war advocacy. Here's just one example:

Mark Tavlarides, who was legislative director at the Clinton White House’s National Security Council during the war on Serbia, is also in on the action. In 2010 he lobbied (successfully) on behalf of Bechtel to gain a one billion dollar contract to build a major highway in Kosovo. He has since found his way to the firm of John Podesta, Clinton's former White House chief of staff, which enjoys a $50,000 monthly contract with the Kosovo government, advising it on communications and strengthening Kosovo’s ties to the United States government. According to a Congressional Research Service report, Kosovo received $85.4 million in aid from the US government in fiscal year 2012. Not a bad return on investment of that monthly $50k spent lobbying for continued aid.

This is how it works: US gives aid to foreign recipient country which in turn hires powerful lobbying firm packed with former and future senior government figures who are paid well to know the ropes. That firm proceeds to lobby and propagandize the US government and people for yet more aid and assistance. And round and round it goes.
Now you know where your tax dollars are going - into the pockets of corrupt officials at home and abroad. That's the REAL business of Empire.

Obama’s Syria Policy Comes Dangerously Close to ‘Bush Doctrine’

One of the scarrrrry rumors on the 'net is that Obama is plotting a third term.

So what? We're already in the third term of the Bush regime.

Quote of the day

"When one considers how many empires have fallen apart since the end of World War II, and that the Union of the current United States was imposed by force, it should not come as any surprise that support for secession will continue to grow throughout America as the economy worsens and the divisions between American culture and the immigrant cultures widen." Vox Day

Let's send the Pentagon off the fiscal cliff

Now here's a way to avoid financial disaster and get us off the dead-end path of empire at the same time:

I mean, what actual threat to America's security is the military currently fending off? Are there any countries that would invade the United States if the Pentagon's budget were 10 percent smaller than it is--which is roughly what $500 billion in cuts over 10 years would amount to?

The main threat to national security you hear about is terrorism. And, so far as I can tell, a big chunk of the money spent by the military to address that problem has made the problem worse. The invasion and occupation of Iraq provided massive propaganda for terrorist recruiters (and the consequent regime change created a new ally for Iran, which is said to be our nemesis and a backer of terrorists). The war in Afghanistan has also been a Godsend for Jihadist propagandists--while, in the bargain, destabilizing Pakistan and making its nuclear weapons more likely to fall into the hands of extremists.
DC's global and domeestic garrisons are behind every major threat to our freedom and prosperity, from terrorism, to open borders, to affirmative action, to globalism. Big government abroad means big government at home, and vice-versa. DC's overseas empire is a ripe target for a population tired of war and waster, so it's a great place to start.

Ed Sebesta knows secession

Ed Sebesta wants you to know that the secession petitions now active in all 50 States are a total waste of time. He has no doubt they're meaningless. After all, no State has seceeded yet, so obviously the Empire will last forever, no matter what.

That's why Ed has written eleven posts about the secession petitions, though he normally updates his blog at the blistering rate of one post per month.

Yep - nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

Scholarships for illegal aliens?

Yes - only in California - so far.

This is a direct and deliberate insult to legal immigrants and the native-born. Worse, it's an attack on the rule of law. Here's the story:

The University of California, Berkeley says a $1 million gift will help provide scholarships to nearly 200 students who are illegal immigrants.

UC Berkeley officials said Tuesday the award from the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund is the largest single gift for this type of scholarship at any American university.

Most of the scholarship recipients will be UC Berkeley students who came to the U.S. as children and are living in the country without legal permission.

Illegal immigrant students are not eligible for federal grants, loans or work-study positions. But the 2011 California Dream Act made them eligible for state financial aid and privately funded scholarships.
The foundation that's funding this outrage claims the loftiest motives - to create a "just and caring society." Of course - because it's impossible to create a caring society unless you reward invaders.

Secession petitioners near 1 million

That's nearly a million brave souls with the courage to take a stand against perpetual war and tyranny. From the Examiner:

Almost one million people, including Americans in each of the 50 states, have signed secession petitions to President Obama, around 0.2% of all Americans, but Louisiana and Texas might have more leverage due to their oil, according to news reports citing author Bob Smiley.

Using the official government “We the People” website, people in each state, including Vermont that was last to join in the rally cry against a corrupt government, are petitioning the president for their states to leave the nation.

Petitioners are asking Obama to allow their states to peacefully withdraw from the United States of America so they can create a “new” sovereign government.
A poll from last summer revealed that 24% of Americans believe in the right of secession. It'll be interesting to see how that number changes as DC continues its death spiral.

Maybe Obama & Co. imagine the problem will go away, as they seem to be doing regarding Texan secession. But by Obama's own rules, the White House is supposed to respond to a petition that garners 25,000 signatures. The Texas Secession petition has already received over 119,000.

The Winter of Conservative Discontent

In the aftermath of last month's presidential election, Republican flacks disguised as "conservatives" were glad to offer invaluable advice on how to save the one thing that mattered, and that was the GOP's hide. In a word: capitulate. Yep. Same-sex marriage, amnesty for illegal aliens, whatever it takes. That's the path to victory, they said.

But as Pat Buchanan reminds us, "Conservatives need to rediscover what they wish to conserve." If we allow party loyalists to surrender the country in order to salvage the corrupt Republican party, we won't have anything left to conserve.

Martin sent the beautiful picture above:

On Sunday, December 2nd, The Va Flaggers had the honor and privilege of forwarding the colors in the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade. We had 35 join us and walk, ride or drive in our unit. It was an absolutely beautiful day, with temperatures near 70, lots of sunshine, and a nice breeze to lift the flags. Before the parade stepped off, we asked members of the Latane and FireEater Camps, SCV who had Flagged with us to join us for a group photo. This great pic gives you an idea of the Confederate presence in the parade, but there were actually many more!

The parade is a lengthy one, over 2 miles, with most of the route lined with crowds of people. We had stick battle flags to hand out, and the demand was so high that we ran out before we even got 1/4 of the way through the parade!

Scary Jamie?

Everyone's up in arms about Jamie Foxx. Seems he went on Saturday Night Live to promote his latest movie, Django Unchained, and said, “I kill all the white people in the movie. How great is that?”

Ohhh - scary! But has anybody seen Foxx's character? Take a look at the clown costume he wears:

I busted a gut laughing when I first saw that picture. Yes, he's trying sooooo hard to look baaad. But THIS is supposed to be a scary black cowboy? Jamie, you're no Clint Eastwood. Django must be Swahili for, "Wears clothes his grandmother threw out."

The rules for cowboy apparel are few and simple, all of which Foxx's character tragically ignored:

1 - Cowboys do not wear jackets from the 1956 JC Penny catalog.

2 - Cowboys do not wear ANYTHING with buttons shaped like that.

3 - Cowboys DO NOT wrap sweaters around their necks. In fact, cowboys do not even own sweaters.

4 - Cowboys only wear gun holsters battered from countless gunfights and cattle drives. No cowboy would be caught dead sporting a holster fresh from the western wear supply store.

5 - Do. Not. Lose. Your. Right. Glove.

But the last rule of cowboy fashion says it all:

6 - A real cowboy doesn't need to be told the rules of how to look like a cowboy.

Federal judge rules NC ‘Choose Life’ plates unconstitutional

Hmmm ... I smell the ACLU. Who else would swoop down on a politically incorrect license tag?

U.S. District Court Judge James C. Fox ruled on Friday that North Carolina cannot produce or distribute the “Choose Life” plate.

Judge Fox concluded, “The State’s offering of a Choose Life license plate in the absence of a pro-choice plate constitutes viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment.”
Is there ANYTHING not under DC's power?

Do You Want War with Syria?

From Downsize DC: Let me ask...

• Would YOU write a check to support a Syrian rebel group? • Do YOU want your taxes used to support them? • Would YOU be willing to fight alongside them? • Would YOU want our children or grandchildren to be sent for this purpose? • Do YOU want our armed forces to go to Syria?

Obama has already stationed US troops near Syria, where they await final orders to invade. The time to stop this latest military adventure is before it starts. Click here to see what you can do.

DC's power fading rapidly

Who says empires inevitably overextend themselves and collapse? Besides the League of the South, there are a number of other devolutionist movements making the same point. And then there's the National Intelligence Council. From Politico:

A new report by the intelligence community projects that the United States will no longer be the world's only superpower by 2030.

"In terms of the indices of overall power – GDP, population size, military spending and technological investment – Asia will surpass North America and Europe combined," the report concludes.

“Global Trends 2030: Alternative Worlds" — prepared by the office of the National Intelligence Council of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence — projects that the "unipolar" world that emerged after the fall of the Soviet Union will not continue.

"With the rapid rise of other countries, the 'unipolar moment' is over and no country – whether the U.S., China, or any other country – will be a hegemonic power," the report argues.
This is a good time to pick out a lifeboat and make plans on how we're going to escape the Titanic.

Nelson Mandela 'proven' to be a member of the Communist Party after decades of denial

Imagine that - a convicted terrorist actually lied about his Communist Party membership.

Quote of the day

"There are fewer anti-fascists today than in the 90s because world of warcraft is far cooler and rewards much more. Maybe we should incorporate ideas of wow into antifa like quests (beating up nazis, tagging four walls, burning down a Mcdonalds) so maybe youths will be more interested in joining?" Anonymous poster at RevLeft.

Yes, nothing says "Wow!" like arson.

Secession: Breaking a Psychological Barrier

Here's Dr. Michael Hill of the League of the South on the various State secession petitions:

The spate of secession petitions that flooded the White House in the wake of Barack Obama's re-election on 6 November probably won't amount to much from a legal perspective. After all, despite the fact that several States, including Texas and others of the old Confederacy, got considerably more than the required 25,000 signatures during a thirty-day period to warrant a Presidential response, Mr. Obama really owes them nothing. And nothing is what they'll get from that quarter.

But the real matter of the secession petitions is not a legal one. Rather, it is a psychological one. The simple fact is that so many of those who put their John Hancock to a document that supports breaking up the union committed a revolutionary act for the first time in their lives. In doing so, they broke an extremely important psychological barrier. They fundamentally challenged the power of the Establishment elite.
So what's the next step in restoring liberty and self-government? You'll definitely want to read the whole thing.

The Forever Wars of Frederick & Kimberly Kagan

Philip Giraldi dissects the Kagan's latest interventionist screed:
The Kagans are classic neocon entrepreneurs who rely on nepotism and cronyism to work their way through the system. Kimberly studied ancient history at Yale under Donald Kagan and then married his son. She is now billed as a “military expert” by the neocon media in spite of her lack of any actual military experience. Kimberly and Fred have together attached themselves firmly to the COIN counterinsurgency strategy and to the surge tactics as well as to two of its leading proponents, General Stanley McChrystal and General David Petraeus.
Just as DC's left-leaning domestic policy assumes that a strong central government must impose order and justice on an otherwise benighted population, DC's foreign policy assumes it is uniquely qualified to impose order on the rest of the world - whether the world likes it or not.

Giraldi notes that even though the Kagans got everything wrong in their arguments for W's invasion of Iraq, that hasn't stopped them from cheering on other interventions. As Giraldi points out, war is their business, and there are many others who profit from war.

Similarly, leftists have been proven wrong about just about everything, from forced busing to welfare, but that hasn't stopped them from promoting their agenda. Yes, they're THAT convinced they're right. It's the world that's wrong.

Despite Tax Increase, California State Revenues in Freefall

A headline that better explained the situation might read, "BECAUSE of Tax Increase, California State Revenues in Freefall." But the corporate media, being a subidiary of GovCo, Inc, cannot conceive of such a thing. So now what's California gonna do?

California State Controller John Chiang has announced that total state revenue for the month of November 2012 fell $806.8 million, or 10.8%, below budget.

Democrats thought they could hammer “the rich” by convincing voters to pass Proposition 30 to create the highest state income tax in the nation. But it now appears that high income earners have already “voted with their feet” by moving themselves and their businesses out of state, resulting in over $1 billion shortfall in corporate and income taxes last month and the beginning of a new financial crisis.
Leftists see themselves as Reason personified in a barren, mindless world. There can be no order, no security, no prosperity, without the centralized control of an Enlightened Elite (i.e., themselves). The idea that people can self-organize, that there is a natural order in the world, is alien to such people. When the results of leftist programs aren't what leftists expected, all shortcomings are attributed to the boundless depravity of the very people leftists seek to reorganize. The physical world is mindless, or so think leftists.

So when leftists enact more taxes, they expect the unthinking brutes (i.e., us) to obey. When we don't react the way we're supposed to, we're only demonstrating the depths of our ignorance.

The only possible response, of course, is to use even more force to make people behave the way they're supposed to.

Half of Georgia Republicans want to secede from USA

That "psychological barrier" we reported as having been broken has now been tossed onto the landfill of history. Freeing ourselves from DC's brainless, destructive path isn't just an exotic notion any more; it's a matter of survival. And the good folks of Georgia get it.

Four States to Vote on Nullification of Obamacare

Does the threat of socialized medicine scare you? Nullification to the rescue! From Saberpoint.

State Nullification vs. the NDAA

Breaking news from the Tenth Amendment Center:

A bill condemning detention provisions written into the National Defense Authorization Act and blocking any state cooperation with federal agents attempting to detain people in Michigan without due process unanimously passed the Michigan House Wednesday.

HB5768 declares, “no agency of this state, no political subdivision of this state, no employee of an agency of this state or a political subdivision of this state acting in his or her official capacity, and no member of the Michigan national guard on official state duty shall aid an agency of the armed forces of the United States in any investigation, prosecution, or detention of any person pursuant to section 1021 of the national defense authorization act…”
As we've warned in previous posts, the National Defense Authorization Act is a direct violation of the Bill of Rights. Just as the States rallied opposition to the unconstitutional Alien and Sedition Acts, they are once again the best protectors of our liberties from the central government.

Obama’s Syria Policy Comes Dangerously Close to ‘Bush Doctrine’

Historians will write that both W the Conqueror and O the Liberator pushed socialized medicine and amnesty for illegal aliens at home while roaming the world in search of monsters to destroy. No matter which big-government/big-business party is in power, imperial domestic and foreign agendas are always just opposite sides of the same big-government coin. EVERYTHING is DC's business. So O's threats of even greater involvemnt in Syria should surprise no one:

In August, Obama said “We cannot have a situation in which [chemical/biological weapons] are falling into the hands of the wrong people.” On Wednesday, Secretary of State Clinton reiterated that “Our concerns are that an increasingly desperate Assad regime might turn to chemical weapons, or might lose control of them to one of the many groups that are now operating within Syria.” Israel’s vice prime minister Moshe Yaalon said on Thursday, ”There is speculation that the chemical arsenal will fall into the hostile and irresponsible hands of the likes of al-Qaida or other terrorist groups.”

For those of us that can remember the Bush administration’s justifications for the invasion of Iraq in 2003, this scenario should sound familiar. Three international relations scholars, Paul R. Williams, J. Trevor Ulbrick, and Jonathan Worboys, explain in Foreign Policy how “the Obama administration risks resurrecting the much-maligned Bush Doctrine of preemptive self-defense.”
It's enough to make you wonder why we even hold elections - except for the fact that politically connected media raked in $9.8 billion dollars in campaign advertising revenue.

Properly Observing Pearl Harbor Day

The sacrifices of those who served in the American military in December, 1941 should be recounted often for us all to ponder and appreciate and the 3000 Americans who died at Pearl Harbor should not have perished in vain. The sincerest memorial to those who fought and died in this tragedy (and others) is to analyze and discuss the multitude of reasons why it happened, and how do we ensure that American servicemen are not knowingly put in harm’s way for political purposes ever again. As there is far too much information available today for the surprise attack myth to survive scrutiny, and thanks to the Freedom of Information Act and declassification of hundreds of thousands of decoded Japanese messages, we can now get a more clear picture of how events unfolded in 1941.

The myth reported by court historians and the media is that the US was minding its own business until the Japanese launched an unprovoked attack at Pearl Harbor, thereby dragging a reluctant US into a world struggle. In reality, the US under FDR had been deeply involved in Far Eastern affairs for some time, and those policies actually provoked the Japanese attack.

As Oliver Lyttleton, British Minister of Production stated in 1944….” Japan was provoked into attacking America at Pearl Harbor. It is a travesty to say that America was forced into the War.”

After FDR’s numerous provocations toward Germany without retaliation (while the US was neutral) he switched his focus to Japan and had assistance with Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes, who stated in October 1941 that “for a long time I have believed that our best entrance into the war would be by way of Japan”. And as early as January 27th, 1941, US Ambassador to Japan in Tokyo, Joseph C. Grew noted in his diary that...”there is a lot of talk around town to the effect that the Japanese, in case of a break with the US, are planning to go all out in a surprise mass attack on Pearl Harbor. Of course, I informed our government.”

Even Admiral Ernest J. King wrote a prescient report on 31 March 1941 that predicted a surprise Japanese dawn air attack on Hawaii as the opening of hostilities. The US had prepared for a Japanese-American conflict since 1906 with “War Plan Orange” which predicted the Philippines as the expected target, attacked by surprise as the Japanese were notorious for. By early 1940 Claire Chennault, the American airman hired by the Chinese, was urging General Hap Arnold and Roosevelt to provide bombers with which to firebomb Japanese cities in retaliation for their attacks on China.

While we cannot excuse Japan’s aggressiveness in Asia in the 1930’s, our government continually provoked the Japanese by freezing assets in the US, closing the Panama Canal to her shipping and progressively reducing exports to Japan until it became an all-out embargo along with Britain’s. The Philippines, by 1941 were reinforced to the point of being the strongest US overseas base with 120,000 troops and the Philippine Army had been called into service by FDR. General MacArthur had 74 medium and heavy bombers along with 175 fighters that included the new B-17’s and P-40E’s with which to attack or defend with. The mobilization of troops and munitions has always been recognized as preparation for attack and we thus assumed this posture to the Japanese.

We then implied military threats to Tokyo if it did not alter its Asian policies and on 26 November 1941, FDR issued an ultimatum that Japan withdraw all military forces from China and Indochina as well as break its treaty with Germany and Italy. The day before the 26 November ultimatum was sent , Secretary of War Stimson wrote in his Diary that “the question was how we should maneuver them (the Japanese) into the position of firing the first shot”. The bait offered was our Pacific fleet.

In 1940, Admiral J.O. Richardson, the commander of the Pacific Fleet flew to Washington to protest FDR’s decision to base the fleet in Hawaii instead of its normal berthing on the US west coast. His concern was that Pearl Harbor was vulnerable to attack, was difficult to defend against torpedo planes, lacked fuel supplies and dry docks. Richardson came away from his meeting with FDR “with the impression that, despite his spoken word, the President was fully determined to put the US into the war if Great Britain could hold out until he was reelected.”

Richardson was summarily relieved of command and replaced with Admiral Kimmel, who was still concerned about Pearl Harbor’s vulnerability, but did not challenge FDR.

Also to be considered was the April, 1941 ABD Agreement FDR concluded with the British and Dutch in Indochina that committed US troops to war if the Dutch East Indies were invaded by the Japanese. Add to this the 1940 $25 million loan and Lend-Lease aid provided to China. The Dutch and British were of course eager for US forces to protect their Far Eastern colonial empires from the Japanese while their military was busy in a European war. And FDR’s dilemma was his 1940 election pledge of non-intervention (unless attacked) to the American people and the US Constitution, which allowed only Congress authority to declare war.

One of the most revealing elements in FDR’s beforehand knowledge of Japan’s intentions was our breaking of the Japanese diplomatic and naval operations codes as early as mid-1939. Copies of all deciphered Japanese messages were delivered to Roosevelt and the Secretaries of War, State and Navy, as well as Army Chief of Staff Marshall and Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Harold Stark. With no deciphering machines in Pearl Harbor, although 3 machines went to Britain, the commanders in Pearl Harbor were left completely dependent upon Washington for information. It must be understood that with this deciphered information, our government officials could not have been better informed had they had seats in the Japanese war council.

It is in this bare political light that Pearl Harbor should be examined and judged for historical perspective. Our military should not be a pawn used by presidents to initiate war and this is the basic reason the Founders deliberated extensively on the establishment of a standing army which might be used as such. As nothing happens in a vacuum and the post-World War One US Neutrality Acts were in place to avoid the political machinations that dragged us into that conflict, FDR’s very steady erosion of US neutrality and secret agreements led to that unnecessary loss of brave American servicemen. We hopefully have learned from this.

Be Patriotic: Support Secession!

Anyone who opposes secession needs to consider exactly what he's defending: a brutal, corrupt empire:

The U.S has also become a creepy police state with some cities employing literally thousands of spy cameras and red light cameras. There are now unmanned drones flying about, in addition to satellites in space that can peer through the windows of houses. An FBI "whistleblower" recently stated that the FBI is even in possession of technology to eavesdrop on text messages.

The America "union" ceased being a union of the people of the free and independent states in 1865. Today the "union" simply means the political plundering class in Washington, D.C., with all off its welfare/warfare state parasites, lobbyists, and propagandists in the media and academe. That is what one would be leaving behind by seceding. So be patriotic and become a secessionist.
If you love endless war, citizen surveillance, and government-sanctioned demographic revolution, then the DC Empire is for you. You can have it.

Thousands of US troops arrive near Syrian shore on USS Eisenhower

Tired of the old wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? Obama has the solution - a new war:

The USS Eisenhower, an American aircraft carrier that holds eight fighter bomber squadrons and 8,000 men, arrived at the Syrian coast yesterday in the midst of a heavy storm, indicating US preparation for a potential ground intervention. ...

The arrival of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, one of the 11 US Navy aircraft carriers that has the capacity to hold thousands of men, is now stationed at the coast of Syria, DEBKAfile reports. The aircraft carrier joined the USS Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group, which holds about 2,500 Marines.

“We have (US) special operations forces at the right posture, they don’t have to be sent,” an unnamed US official told The Australian, which suggested that US military troops are already near Syria and ready to intervene in the conflict, if necessary.
Of course, this is no surprise. Intervening in other peoples' business is what empires do. And no one can figure out why DC is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy.

And by the way, has anyone given any thought to what blowback we'll get from this military adventure?

England’s Mumford & Sons channel Dixie roots

Garden & Guns, a lively and well-written web site that specializes in Southern culture, has a great feature story on the English folk-rock group Mumford & Sons. I've featured this group in one of our Southern Music Break posts, and thoroughly enjoyed the Garden & Guns article. It's a great introduction to this unique and talented group.

Here's the takeaway quote, from band member Winston Marshall:

“The South is a lot like Ireland. I have no family, no connections at all. But within a week you meet everyone’s relatives. That never happens in England. Some of my best friends are here [in England], and I’ve never met their families.”

'Everyone in US under virtual surveillance' - NSA whistleblower

Don't listen to those crazy right-wingers who rant and rail about the threat of an increasingly totalitarian central government that could spy on us. They're all wrong - because the situation is worse than they think it is, says William Binney, a National Security Agency whistleblower:

The FBI has the e-mails of nearly all US citizens, including congressional members, according to NSA whistleblower William Binney. Speaking to RT he warned that the government can use information against anyone it wants.

One of the best mathematicians and code breakers in NSA history resigned in 2001 because he no longer wanted to be associated with alleged violations of the constitution.
It's encouraging to see men of real honor and courage taking a principled stand. Mr. Binney could no longer stomach aiding the NSA's ongoing assault on the Bill of Rights, so he turned in his resignation and went public.

So here's a (virtual) toast of Rebel Yell to William Binney!

The right to secede

Here's one of the best short introductions to State sovereignty I've ever seen. It's by the late, great Joe Sobran, and it's featured in the Imaginative Conservative:

Even in The Federalist, the brilliant propaganda papers for ratification of the Constitution (largely written by Alexander Hamilton and James Madison), the United States are constantly referred to as “the Confederacy” and “a confederate republic,” as opposed to a single “consolidated” or monolithic state. Members of a “confederacy” are by definition free to withdraw from it.

Hamilton and Madison hoped secession would never happen, but they never denied that it was a right and a practical possibility. They envisioned the people taking arms against the federal government if it exceeded its delegated powers or invaded their rights, and they admitted that this would be justified. Secession, including the resort to arms, was the final remedy against tyranny. (This is the real point of the Second Amendment.)
I recently heard some tenured welfare queen on NPR babbling that the misguided souls who'd signed the various secession petitions didn't realize that the "language of the Constitution" CLEARLY implied a one-way trap for the people of the States; that the Union was permanent and inescapable. I wish someone could've gotten through the call screener and read this to him!

Rahm Emanuel Likens Obama to Lincoln

How about that? Someone has compared Obama to Lincoln. As if that were newsworthy.

This latest comparison vividly illustrates something we keep reminding folks about - that veneration of Lincoln is the Empire's attempt to bless and legitimize its actions. See for yourself:

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the former chief of staff to President Barack Obama, likened Obama’s values and “ability to see a clear road where everybody just sees fog” to President Abraham Lincoln as depicted in the 2012 Steven Spielberg movie “Lincoln.” ...

“If you haven’t seen the movie ‘Lincoln,’ and if I didn’t try to illuminate it, please go see the movie ‘Lincoln’ because that’s another way where all these cross currents come at you and you have to make sense of that conflict, and that conflicting currents and equities,” he said.
When modern-day Lincoln idolators, aka the League of the Anti-South malign the South, promote the unlimited power of the federal government, and deify Lincoln, it's big-government propaganda. They can squeal all they want that they're just defendiing historical scholarship, but all they're doing is parroting the party line of the DC Empire. One thing I'll grant them - Obama may just be the latter-day Lincoln. Know hope.

The world will not end in 2012

A comforting message from our all-caring federal government.

Secession–a “sacred right” of the people

Bernie writes:

This is from an organization one would not expect a secession-friendly opinion to come from -- the John Locke Foundation of North Carolina. The writer, Bob Smith, has been the recipient of much LS material the past few years and although from originally from New York is rather open-minded and thoughtful.

The pot continues to boil.
Boil is right! Check out this opening - it's worthy of any fire-eater:

Recently much ink has been scribbled by commenters lashing out against those who suggest that it is a constitutional right of American states’ citizens to secede from a central government. Suggestions of that possibility come legitimately from people increasingly concerned about a massive, invasive and increasingly oppressive central power—in these united States referred to as the “Union.”

Big government statists continue to deny historical evidence, spread myths about our right to secede and shout “Treason.” They display incredible ignorance about American history and disdain for our Constitution and its authors. Worse, some attempt to realign history along their modernist world views.
You'll definitely want to read the whole red-hot thing!

Quote of the day

"He's the grandson of a Confederate rifleman and grew up with the sense of the Lost Cause, of glorious doomed charges at Gettysburg, of a sense of personal honor and what constitutes masculinity that has largely been rejected by the urban intellectual elite of the Northeast." Ed Hayes, a Manhattan lawyer, on Southern writer Tom Wolfe.

An American Independence Party

Vox Day argues that Americans, like their European cousins, will one day get to decide if they want self-government:

Some would point to the amount of time that has passed since the Civil War, when the question was last considered. It has been 147 years since Americans attempted to exert their right to self-determination and leave the United States. However, it has been 305 years since the Scottish Parliament passed the Union with England Act in 1707, and even if Scotland does not vote to break up the Union in the referendum tentatively scheduled for 2014, the fact that the Scottish people are seriously considering an exit from a Union that is twice as old as the forcible one imposed by Abraham Lincoln should suffice to prove that the age of the U.S. does not render a potential breakup theoretically or practically impossible.
In fact, Day considers the eventual break-up of the DC Empire as "inevitable." The lesson of history is that he is right. If the past teaches us anything, it is that political arrangements are as temporary and fleeting as women's fashions. In the late 19th and most of the 20th centuries, "big" was in - the all-powerful superstate was the Hegelian ideal to which humankind aspired.

In the last decade of the 20th century, however, it was obvious that small was not only beautiful, but more robust and adaptable than the old ideological, unitary model. The 21st century will be the age of devolution and the accelerating resurgence of historical cultures.

To which I say, "Let's roll!"

Do Soldiers Imitate Christ?

Laurence Vance can't stomach the glorification of the Empire's armed might - rather than a modern-day representation of Jesus, it is instead the world's most ruthless purveyor of global death and misery:

Do U.S. soldiers perform any service that is honorable, necessary, and worthy of thanks? Do they defend the United States by securing its borders, guarding its shores, patrolling its coasts, or watching its skies? Fighting foreign wars is not serving. Bombing and destroying Iraq and Afghanistan is not serving. Killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and Afghans is not serving. Occupying countries is not serving. Playing golf on a U.S. military golf course while stationed in Japan is not serving. These are just ways of earning a paycheck for being part of the president’s personal attack force. ...

Rather than Veterans Day being, as Milton concludes, "a holy day when mortal men and women remind us of the service and sacrifice of Jesus Christ," I think it is rather an unholy day when mortal men and women are wrongly exalted over the service and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

I hear similar arguments from folks who should know better - "our" government is divinely blessed, they say, and we must obey and respect it. And of course, even discussing secession is not only traitorous, but un-Christian.

They have swallowed whole their handlers' propaganda.

Here's another twist which also views the Empire's minions as sacred: US soldiers are representative of our national secular saint, Martin Luther King. Jeh Johnson, a general counsel for the Department of "Defense," made this explicit at a DoD commemoration of King:

Volunteers in today’s military, he said, “have made the conscious decision to travel a dangerous road and personally stop and administer aid to those who want peace, freedom and a better place in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and in defense of the American people.

“Every day, our servicemen and women practice the dangerousness -- the dangerous unselfishness Dr. King preached on April 3, 1968,” Johnson told the audience.
Whether your intermediary is Christianity or Liberation Theology, the DC Empire demands the adulation and obedience of its subjects.

The Myth of Northern Innocence

The incomparable Jim Goad unleashes his caustic wit on Yankee triumphalism, which is really just anti-Southern hatred. An instant classic!

See that sea change?

First a little background: Back in the days when W the Conqueror's invasion of Iraq was celebrated and cheered, our handlers used the occasion to boost their power. The USA Patriot Act claimed the power to conduct unwarranted searches and citizen surveillance in the name of "national security." After all, Saddam Hussein was stopped JUST IN TIME from developing his Death Star, and the Evil One was no doubt plotting more crimes against the home of the brave.

I was on FreeRepublic then. When I posted an argument for States and local governments to pass resolutions of non-compliance with these unconstitutional measures, I was banned forever for my seditious statements. "We're the UNITED States of America!"

Fast forward to today. We now have two Patriot Acts; the NDAA, which gives the Chief Executive unlimited power to imprison Americans indefinitely without a trial; and an administration which promised "transparency" but has instead invoked the Espionage Act to silence whistle-blowers who expose abuses of power and corruption.

NOW people are paying attention. Witness the response on FreeRepublic to Pat Buchanan's article on the various State secession petitions: Almost every comment is supportive.

As Dr. Michael Hill has observed, a "psychological barrier" has been broken. Know hope.
