Martin Luther King, Conservative Icon?

Well, why not? In an age where submitting to government-sponsored demographic revolution and citizen surveillance are touted as "conservative," a man who cheated on his wife, plagiarized other writers, and conspired with communists can be deemed as "conservative" as anyone else:

As the nation celebrates King's national holiday Monday, a new battle has erupted over his legacy. Some conservatives are saying it's time for them to reclaim the legacy of King, whose message of self-help, patriotism and a colorblind America, they say, was "fundamentally conservative."
It's all part of the regime's efforts to convince would-be dissidents to adopt the regime's beliefs. Clever, no?

It's true, MLK *IS* looked at as a conservative icon by many. My outlets for solace are numbered few.

I listen to two Christian radio stations. I tuned into one (Crawford Broadcasting) and heard the normally informative and enlightening Southwest Radio Church (Noah Hutchings). The topic, near as I could figure, was how wonderful modern Israel is (ISRAEL, ISRAEL, RAH, RAH, RAH).

I tuned to the other one (Salem Media) and briefly heard a lecture on the progress of Civil Rights and how eeeevil the Old South was. At the mention of the word "sharecropping", I turned off the radio, no longer wondering how that which is called "the left" could have made such great strides.

With friends like these...

Good point Mark. And Don't forget that some of these so called conservatives (neo cons)like to remind us how the Democrats of the old south were the real racists while the Rebublicans were the true party of freedom.I heard this from "conservative" talk show host Tammy Bruce. She was pointing out how the wonderful Lincoln Republicans subdued the evil Democrats in order to free the slaves. barf.

Given the historical knowledge of a lot of people today, I wouldn't be surprised that MLK could become a "conservative" in the minds of many.

The radio talk about sharecropping that Mark mentioned just shows how twisted things have become. Sharecropping was a way to disperse risk so that neither the tenant nor the landowner would bear 100% of the risk of a crop failure, unexpected price changes, etc. Farming is risky but that's lost on this Obama-worshipping, Hollywood-addled generation.

Sadly, they can redefine conservative to mean commie knowing the peons will continue to serve The Party.
