Zombies vs. Feds

We've taken a lot of satisfaction in presenting poll results showing ever-spiraling confidence in DC--but we never expected anything like this from Rasmussen Reports:

Thirty-seven percent (37%) of American Adults believe the federal government would do a better job than zombies running the country today. But the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that most Americans don’t share that view, with just as many (37%) who feel zombies would do a better job running the country and another 26% who can’t decide between the two.
That other 26% should get off the fence. The mass murderers in DC are much more destructive than zombies.

2 years after US military departure, Iraq asking for new help to battle al-Qaida

Oh, good Lord, here we go again:

Nearly two years after pushing out the U.S. military, Iraq is asking for more American weapons, training and manpower to help fight a bloody resurgence of al-Qaida that has unleashed a level of violence comparable to the darkest days of the nation's civil war....

Al-Maliki is expected to ask Obama for new assistance to bolster its military and fight al-Qaida. Faily said that could include everything from speeding up the delivery of U.S. aircraft, missiles, interceptors and other weapons, to improving national intelligence systems. And when asked, he did not rule out the possibility of asking the U.S. to send military special forces or additional CIA advisers to Iraq to help train and assist counterterror troops.
First of all, let's remember that al-Qaida DID NOT EXIST in Iraq until W the Conqueror invaded, destroying the existing political order and unleashing fresh conflict between the Sunnis and Shiites. al-Qaeda is Sunni, and represents the most visible example of 4th generation warfare, which is characterized by long-term, decentralized conflict conducted by non-governmental entities. For any government, especially the US government, to stick its nose into such a conflict would be worse than poking a hornet's nest--imagine the barriers collapsing between the honey badger, wolverine, and dingo exhibits at the zoo, and rushing in with a butterfly net.

But surely Obama, that "peacenik liberal," would never consider getting us mired in that nightmare. Would he? From Fox News:

Administration officials consider the insurgency, which has rebranded itself as the Islamic State of Iraq in the Levant, a major and increasing threat both to Iraq and the U.S., the official said.
Well, it WOULD get people's minds off the ObamaCare fiasco...

Mel Watt's time has come--to be rejected

Mel Watt, who's been nominated by President Obama as the next head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, represents a lot of what's wrong with DC. Since 1993, Watt has reigned in the 12th congressional district, an artificial, snaking district cobbled together to guarantee the election of a black liberal Democrat.

Watt is eminently UNQUALIFIED for this position. He was a vocal supporter of the very policies that created the disastrous housing bubble that burst in 2008, nearly bringing the entire economy to a halt. Watt backed the taxpayer-subsidized "Pathways to Homeownership," which propped up unqualified buyers so they could buy homes--homes they could not pay for. Watt agreed with George W. Bush that down payments should NOT be required to buy a home, and hundreds of thousands of people who could not muster the foresight to save for a down payment were soon facing monthly mortgage payments they could not manage.

But Mel Watt is black, so minority pressure groups are lining up behind him, including the NAACP (surprise!), and the National Council of La Raza (translation: Das Volk). This is a recurring, and troubling, pattern: a disciplined, well-financed, and well-organized coalition of minority groups are banding together to further their interests, which always require white tax dollars.

If Watt is confirmed, this pattern can only accelerate.

NSA Steals Google, Yahoo Users' Data

Is there no limit to what these Peeping Toms will do? It sure doesn't look like it:

The National Security Agency has secretly broken into the main communications links that connect Yahoo and Google data centers around the world, according to documents obtained from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden and interviews with knowledgeable officials.

By tapping those links, the agency has positioned itself to collect at will from hundreds of millions of user accounts, many of them belonging to Americans. The NSA does not keep everything it collects, but it keeps a lot.
Now, NSA already has court-approved access to Google data--but apparently just to prove they could do it, they hacked into the back door.

This is pure intimidation. And some wonder why the central government is so distrusted these days.

Why is DC losing its legitimacy as a government? Blame it on what Walter Williams calls "legalized theft." Problem is, that gig can't go on forever:

According to a recent Fox News poll, 73 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the direction of the country, up 20 points from 2012. Americans sense that there’s a lot going wrong in our nation, but most don’t have a clue about the true nature of our problem. If they had a clue, most would have little stomach for what would be necessary to arrest our national decline. Let’s look at it.

Between two-thirds and three-quarters of federal spending, in contravention of the U.S. Constitution, can be described as Congress taking the earnings or property of one American to give to another, to whom it does not belong. You say, “Williams, what do you mean?” Congress has no resources of its very own. Moreover, there’s no Santa Claus or tooth fairy who gives it resources. The fact that Congress has no resources of its very own forces us to recognize that the only way Congress can give one American one dollar is to first – through intimidation, threats and coercion – confiscate that dollar from some other American through the tax code.
The government supremacists, their scribes, and the parasites who depend on them need to wake up. A 20-point drop in voter dissatisfaction in ONE YEAR is nothing to sneeze at. Those who are scolded and threatened to pay for this convoluted system of open bribery are losing patience. It won't be long when they can't be cattle-prodded any longer with threats of calling them bad names if they don't do what they're told. Since 1865, the DC Empire has been based on force and fraud, not the consent of the governed. We can't pretend any longer that submission at gunpoint is free consent.


Illegal aliens block traffic in Manhattan

Our colonizers are getting more militant:

A rally to push immigration reform shut down traffic in Manhattan Tuesday and ended in the arrest of 10 protesters for disorderly conduct.

The New York Immigration Coalition organized the event as a way to draw attention to legislation currently stalled in the House of Representatives.

Several of the protesters demanded a reform that includes a "path to citizenship" for undocumented immigrants and blamed the Republican leadership for the lack of progress.
Get that? The protesters "demanded" American citizenship. Now that takes a lot of nerve--they come into a country illegally, adding to the crime and poverty, becoming a burden to taxpayers, and then start issuing demands to us. When we don't comply, they lash out. We got a taste of that militancy here in Charlotte a few years back when illegals and their leftist allies blocked traffic.

Does that sound like folks who want to become part of the American dream, or invaders dictating terms of surrender?

The scary part--yes, it gets worse--is that these invaders have powerful organizations backing them, including MEChA and La Raza. Once Congress gives them what they want, do you think these organizations are going to announce, "Well we won. Time to disband"? No. Bureaucracy is self-perpetuating, and Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy informs us that these groups will then push for more demands. They must to justify their existence. These groups will survive and thrive by stressing resentment against whites and make further demands. Just look at the NAACP, which did not disband after Civil Rights legislation was passed. Affirmative action, set-asides, mind-numbing diversity initiatives, reparations--why, there's no end to it.

No end to it, that is, until one day the bucket goes down to the well, and the bottom drops out.

Obama administration knew millions could not keep their health insurance

Remember that old joke about how to tell when a politician is lying? Obama reminds us why it's true:

President Obama repeatedly assured Americans that after the Affordable Care Act became law, people who liked their health insurance would be able to keep it. But millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts, and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years.

Four sources deeply involved in the Affordable Care Act tell NBC News that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a “cancellation” letter or the equivalent over the next year because their existing policies don’t meet the standards mandated by the new health care law. One expert predicts that number could reach as high as 80 percent. And all say that many of those forced to buy pricier new policies will experience “sticker shock.”
What's next? Immigration "reform." Translation: Repealing all immigration controls.

Don't you know this protest of two thousand people made the statists wee-wee in their britches:

The crowd at the protest reflected the strange political hodgepodge that has found common cause in protesting the NSA (though perhaps no stranger than the NSA’s supporters). Protesters held signs that read “Stop Mass Spying” and thanked Snowden for leaking information to the press. Some of the protesters wore buttons from Occupy Wall Street or said “Free Bradley Manning,” others wore t-shirts from the libertarian group Young Americans for Liberty.
Speaking of statists, Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs denounced the rally as a coalition of "loons" and "some of the farthest right groups in America." Yes, what could be farther right than the Young Americans for Liberty? This reinforces something we've been arguing for some time: "Left" and "Right" are meaningless terms today; the real political divide is between the ruling elite and the people.

I love the sound of government supremacists whimpering in fear.

Feds confiscate investigative reporter’s confidential files during raid

As the Empire starts to break up, it will lash out blindly at its perceived enemies. The Obama regime has prosecuted a record number of whistleblowers, and is now taking aim at mudraking journalists:

A veteran Washington D.C. investigative journalist says the Department of Homeland Security confiscated a stack of her confidential files during a raid of her home in August — leading her to fear that a number of her sources inside the federal government have now been exposed.

In an interview with The Daily Caller, journalist Audrey Hudson revealed that the Department of Homeland Security and Maryland State Police were involved in a predawn raid of her Shady Side, Md. home on Aug. 6. Hudson is a former Washington Times reporter and current freelance reporter.
Can you imagine the liberal outrage if Bush had done this? But Obama silences reporters, and nary a whimper is to be heard.

Eric Holder accused of forcing blacks into failing schools for diversity

Remember when Civil Rights activists protested about individuals being denied the right to choose where they went to school? Well, that was then. In this enlightened age, it's okay to prevent folks from attending certain schools as long as it's done in the name of Civil Rights:

Attorney General Eric Holder is pushing black students into schools that are failing just so he can crow about diversity statistics, more than two dozen Republican senators charged Thursday.

Republican Sen. Pat Toomey was one GOP member who made the accusation, speaking about the fallout from Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana when needy students in the state received scholarships for private schools. The students hailed from schools that were failing, more than 90 percent of them minorities, the Hill reported.

But the Justice Department asked that some of those students stay at their present schools — the failing ones — to ensure the ethnic population contains at least 30 percent blacks, the Hill reported.
Think this bothers Eric Holder? Not one bit. This attitude isn't really so much a liberal thing as it is a statist thing. It not only applies to domestic policy, but foreign policy, too. Look at the ongoing horror of Iraq's slow-motion civil war, which was caused by the US overthrowing the autocratic regime that nevertheless kept the peace between Sunnis and Shites. Results don't matter--all that matters are the nobility of the intentions. That's the DC mindset.

International Fury Continues to Grow Over Spying

Obama has revitalized the notion that anything the president does is legal. But he can't make everyone else in the world buy it:

Monday was France, Tuesday was Mexico, and Wednesday was Germany. The NSA’s surveillance scandals continue to mount, with seemingly each day meaning another outraged ally condemning their privacy violations.

Each of these diplomat rows means another long-standing US ally with whom relations are badly damaged, and the Obama Administration greets each with the same dismissive attitude.
The DC Empire is every bit as lawless as North Korea--problem is, North Korea is a pipsqueak of a country that can't even feed its own people. DC has the muscle to do real damage. It's the worst rogue nation in history.

Obama wants Marines to wear ‘girly’ hats

The feminization of society is about to take a bold leap forward. From the New York Post:

Thanks to a plan by President Obama to create a “unisex” look for the Corps, officials are on the verge of swapping out the Marines’ iconic caps – known as “covers” — with a new version that some have derided as so “girly” that they would make the French blush.

“We don’t even have enough funding to buy bullets, and the DoD is pushing to spend $8 million on covers that look like women’s hats!” one senior Marine source fumed to The Post. “The Marines deserve better. It makes them look ridiculous.”

The thin new covers have a feminine line that some officials think would make them look just as good on female marines as on males — in keeping with the Obama directive.

A harmless warning shot to the desert — in the form of a nuclear missile — is the United States' only hope of persuading Iran to halt its nuclear program, says billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson.

If that doesn't work, he said, another missile should be sent to annihilate Tehran.

During a panel discussion Tuesday at Yeshiva University entitled "Will Jews Exist? Iran, Assimilation and the Threat to Israel and Jewish Survival," Adelson, a staunch conservative and supporter of Israel, said there is no negotiating with Iran. The country needs to know the United States has a zero-tolerance policy.

A Government of Secrecy and Fear

The rogue regime in DC has been caught acting badly once again--and we're supposed to believe the bad guy is Edward Snowden, who revealed our rulers' crimes. But Judge Andrew Napolitano isn't buying it:

Since the revelations about Verizon, we have learned that the NSA has captured and stored in its Utah computers the emails, texts, telephone conversations, utility bills, bank statements, credit card statements and digital phone books of everyone in America for the past two and a half years. It also has captured hundreds of millions of phone records in Brazil, France, Germany and Mexico – all U.S. allies – and it has shared much of the seized raw American data with intelligence agencies in Great Britain and Israel. Its agents have spied on their girlfriends and boyfriends literally thousands of times, and they have combed the collected raw data and selectively revealed some of it to law enforcement. All of this directly contradicts the Constitution.
If it angers you that your financial and phone records can be illegally seized on a whim, then you should know by now that electing a fresh batch of crooks to public office is no cure. Withdrawing consent is the only meaningful and practical recourse left.

D.C. businessman faces two years in jail for unregistered ammunition, brass casing

We can all feel safer now that this desperado has been nabbed:

Mark Witaschek, a successful financial adviser with no criminal record, is facing two years in prison for possession of unregistered ammunition after D.C. police raided his house looking for guns. Mr. Witaschek has never had a firearm in the city, but he is being prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The trial starts on Nov. 4.

The police banged on the front door of Mr. Witaschek’s Georgetown home at 8:20 p.m. on July 7, 2012, to execute a search warrant for “firearms and ammunition … gun cleaning equipment, holsters, bullet holders and ammunition receipts.”

His 16-year-old son was in the shower when the police arrived. “They used a battering ram to bash down the bathroom door and pull him out of the shower, naked,” said his father. “The police put all the children together in a room, while we were handcuffed upstairs. I could hear them crying, not knowing what was happening.”
What a joke. The police can boost their conviction rates with easy arrests like this, while real thugs run loose on the streets. Amazing.

What 'Displacement of Southerners' ?

In response to the League of the South's protests against DC-sponsored Third-World colonization, the oh-so-cute leftists at Wonkette gleefully sneered at the very notion:

The League is going to protest against something they’re calling “Southern Demographic Displacement,” which involves this dandy little conspiracy theory: the two big wars started by the Bush Administration (and the little civil war that Obama dropped some bombs onto) were really just part of a larger plot by the Federal Gummint to destroy White Southern Culture...
That's right, we're just imagining that whites will be a minority by 2043. Displacement? Why, it could never happen.

Except that it is. The Chamber of Commerce, globalist corporations, and wealthy CEOs just love the idea of a floodtide of cheap, exploitable labor. Some leftists have noticed that exploitation, not love of diversity, is what motivates the fat cats who're pumping millions into pro-amnesty groups, but most remain blind to the facts.

This report from VDare on the latest job numbers shows that the Chamber of Commerce is getting exactly what it wants:

Our analysis of the “other” employment report—of households rather than businesses—shows how desperate the situation has already become for native-born American workers.

In September:

•Total employment rose by 133,000, or by 0.1%
•Native-born American employment fell by 73,000, or by -0.1%
•Foreign-born employment rose by 206,000, or by 0.9%

September was the second successive month in which native-born American workers actually held fewer jobs in absolute terms, while foreign-born workers enjoyed robust job growth.
The term "conspiracy theory" is a dismissive term for an often convoluted tale purporting to reveal a secret plot when there is NO EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT IT other than the assertions of those spreading the theory. Think Al Sharpton and the rape of Tawana Brawley by eeevil white racists. Or Morris Dees and the black churches that "were certainly burned by racists" in the mid-1990s.

The displacement of Southerners, on the other hand, is happening before our eyes and confirmed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But then, maybe they're neo-Confederate, too...

Drone strikes killing more civilians than U.S. admits

Your tax dollars at work:

Two influential human rights groups say they have freshly documented dozens of civilian deaths in U.S. drone strikes in Pakistan and Yemen, contradicting assertions by the Obama administration that such casualties are rare.

Of those casualties, at least 400 were civilians and 200 others were “probable noncombatants,” according to the U.N. official, Ben Emmerson. He said the statistics were provided by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry. ...

The U.S. government almost never publicly acknowledges its role in individual drone strikes, and its legal justifications for targeting specific people are shrouded in secrecy.
The article soundly condemns the US tactic of unleashing a second drone minutes after the first. The idea is to kill and maim rescuers trying to help the initial victims--a despicable ploy the US has used countless times.

But as long as Lockheed Martin can make millions selling drones to Obama, they'll be used to assert US power around the world. Because democracy.

How Low Can Congress Go?

Folks are waking up to something we've been talking about for some time, and that's the growing disgust of the self-serving and corrupt ruling elite in DC:

Approval of Congress is at a new low in 40 years of polling, Americans’ approval of their own representative in Washington is underwater for the first time and a record number of registered voters are inclined to look for someone new in 2014 – all signs of a powerful, palpable public antipathy following the budget spat that shut down much of the government for 16 days, ABC News Pollster GARY LANGER writes. Among other results in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, a near-record 78 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the way the federal government works, with downright anger at a new high in polls since 1992.
You have to ask yourself: How low CAN Congress go before folks realize there's no reforming this monster? No matter who's occupying Congressional seats, we get runaway spending, domestic surveillance, demographic revolution, and continuous wars.

Notice the story's emphasis on something new under the political sun: "downright anger" against DC. And it's growing. One day the bottom will drop out.

Woman Nearly Faints Behind Obama As He Talks About Obamacare

Okay, I'm always skeptical about conspiracy theories, but c'mon! This video of Obama steadying a woman about to faint and saying, "I gotcha--you're okay" is just too symbolic of Obama coming to the rescue of people needing medical attention.

It's odd that the woman didn't wobble until Obama turned his attention to her. Also notice that the two people at her side didn't seem to notice any problem. And why did Obama suddenly turn around to catch her?

Strange. Very strange.

Nullify Now!

Wow! What a blast we had at the Nullify Now! conference in Raleigh this weekend, which was organized by the fine folks at the Tenth Amendment Center. The only thing a curmudgeon could complain about is the success of the event--we could've used more space for all the folks who showed up. One thing's for sure--interest in States' Rights has surged, as the enthusiasm of the attendees at the Raleigh Convention Center certainly proves.

The North Carolina League of the South was one of the co-sponsors. We networked and exchanged contact information with like-minded activists from the other organizations represented there. Collaboration with other organizations is the real pay-off of events like this.

Other co-sponsors that set up tables at the event included the Libertarian Party of North Carolina and the Republican Liberty Caucus.

The meeting rooms were packed. The speakers discussed the overlooked, forgotten, and often hidden history of nullification. With the escalating conflict between the people of the sovereign States and DC over such issues as ObamaCare, amnesty for illegal aliens, and the unconstitutional and authoritarian NDAA, we can expect nullification to gain even more interest.

Dr. Tom Woods was the keynote speaker. The foundation of nullification, he reminded us, is State sovereignty. As he put it, "The US was not meant to be one giant blob. It was founded as a collection of different societies." An all-powerful centralized government cannot help but slide toward totalitarianism, and nullification, from the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions to the present day, is a necessary and legal instrument to put a brake on that dangerous tendency.

Furthermore, a centralized government for an area as vast as the US is impossible. As Dr. Woods put it, "How can one city make irrevocable and infallible decisions for 330 million people?" From the looks of things at this conference, a lot of folks are asking the same question.

Obama to tap ex-Pentagon official for Homeland Security

What do you think is going to come of this changing of the guard at the Department of Homeland Security? I have an idea:

President Obama plans to nominate former Pentagon attorney Jeh Johnson as the next secretary of homeland security, officials said Thursday.

Johnson, general counsel for the Defense Department during Obama's first term, will be introduced by the president at a ceremony on Friday.
Mr. Johnson has compared DC's wars and assassinations to the work of Martin Luther King--a prime example of how liberalism and especially Civil Right Mythology provide cover for militarism.

In his new position, Johnson will certainly push aggressively to expand DC's reach and power, while continuing to promote a leftist agenda--again, giving a benign face to global bullying while silencing potential dissent from the left. From the USA Today article:

His specialties include cybersecurity, officials said. He played a key role in repealing the Pentagon's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that prohibited gay service members.

Johnson, who left his Pentagon post in 2012, also provided legal guidance in the use of unmanned drones against terrorism suspects overseas, and the use of military commissions -- rather than civilian courts -- to try suspects.

The homeland security nominee also led a crackdown on unauthorized new leaks at the Defense Department, including a warning to a former Navy SEAL who wrote a book about the 2011 raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
After all, now that Republicans have caved to EVERY Obama demand, they're washed up as a brake on Obama's agenda. Obama now only has to satisfy his left wing--and they're looking pretty contented at the moment.

Next for Obama: Amnesty

Now that he's pinned the spineless Republicans to the mat and made them scream, "Don't hurt me!" Obama is pumped for his next battle: Subvert the historical American nation.

Yes, we're talking about amnesty for the 20 million or so illegal alien invaders that somehow slipped over the border. On one side are the Chamber of Commerce, big business, the Black Congressional Caucus, all the ethnic lobbies, and the NAACP. Opposed are the unorganized, unrepresented majority that wants to defend their jobs and way of life.

Still glowing from his victory over the Republicans, Obama's ready to go big. Word is, he's going to settle for nothing less than amnesty for the Democratic voters waiting for their papers, as well as boosting LEGAL immigration to 33 million.

In other words, Obama and his partners in the Axis of Treason are going in for the kill. And why not? What's in their way?

NSA harvesting hundreds of millions of personal email contact lists

Got anything juicy in your email address book? Uncle Barack wants it--and if you object, then you're an unpatriotic hater who's probably up to no good. Presumption of guilt--your guilt--is what the government bases its actions on these days:

The National Security Agency is logging hundreds of millions of email and instant messaging contacts belonging to Americans and others around the world, according to a report based on documents provided by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

The data harvesting program, first reported by The Washington Post Monday, collects address books from email and instant messaging service in an apparent attempt to map social circles across the globe. Online communication services frequently expose an individual’s contact list when that person signs onto their account, sends a message, or connects a remote device - such as a cell phone - to a computer.
Combined with the phone records the NSA has indiscriminately gathered on millions of Americans, the Feds are able to build detailed profiles on innocent citizens.

They hoped to charge growers under federal and state clean water regulations with tougher penalties than the infractions local officials could impose. But they were rebuffed.

It's too dangerous, the state agency in charge of protecting the region's water said in a letter to county supervisors.

We want to be our own state.”
So forget Republican vs. Democrat or liberal vs. conservative. The fault line of the 21st century will be local vs. centralized. Some folks believe "whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government." And others don't.

Salon is featuring yet another anti-Southern screed. But this one is so disconnected from reality, so hate-filled, so totalitarian, you'd think Ed Sebesta had finally finished his English as a Second Language course and celebrated with this on-line rant.

But no, it's Michael Lind blustering about "neo-Confederates" and a vast Southern conspiracy to conquer the world. Speaking of Sebesta, Lind even serves up what he calls his "grand national strategy" against the South. Really. You have to read it to believe it.

The man is so obsessed, he's certain the South is a greater threat than al-Qaeda, rogue asteroids, and Miley Cyrus combined. Such hatred for one's own people is the mark of mental illness.

But there's a silver lining to Lind's screed--be sure to read the comments at the bottom--they make mincemeat of Lind's wild accusations. Here's just one example:

'Black People Will Have Lost Ground in Every Single Economic Indicator' Under Obama

Check out this little exchange between Sean Hannity and Tavis Smiley:

HANNITY: Are black Americans better off five years into the Obama presidency?

SMILEY: Let me answer your question very forthrightly. No, they are not. The data is going to indicate sadly that when the Obama administration is over, black people will have lost ground in every single leading economic indicator category. On that regard, the president ought to be held responsible.
He's right, of course. Obama's refusal to enforce federal immigration law, and his backing of amnesty for illegal aliens has increased the pool of low-to-middle-class workers, which depressed wages. And that's nothing compared to the body blow Black workers in this country will feel when amnesty is passed (I see it as inevitable). But here's the problem, as Mr. Smiley quickly added:

But here's the other side. I respect the president. I will protect the president. And I will correct the president. He's right on this government shutdown. Republicans are thwarting the rule of law with the Constitution. If they let this debt go into default, they're trampling again on the Constitution.
In other words, no matter WHAT Obama does, Blacks like Tavis Smiley will not waver in their unquestioned support of him. Obama serves the interests of globalist corporations--just as EVERY president does. What happens to the little people is not his concern--all Obama cares about is corralling popular support for the welfare-warfare state, and as a Democrat, he does that by appealing to the Democratic base with the language of Civil Rights.

Both parties serve their base Kool-Aid. The only difference is the flavor they offer.

Activists block buses, court to try to stop Ariz. deportations

No good can come of this:

Immigrant rights activists said Friday morning they are blocking buses in Tucson, Ariz., filled with illegal immigrants who are on their way to be being processed for deportation.

The activists said those on the buses are part of Operation Streamline, which is an expedited process for removing illegal immigrants from the country. The activists, though, say the program circumvents due process rights.
It's not news that illegal aliens don't care for our immigration laws. But the precedent here is that they know they can flaunt any other law they don't like. And once our corrupt, paid-for Congress grants them amnesty, what can we expect of our brand-new "fellow Americans" when they inevitably encounter laws they find burdensome?

Americans' Satisfaction With U.S. Gov't Drops to New Low

Here's a Gallup poll you must read:

Eighteen percent of Americans are satisfied with the way the nation is being governed, down 14 percentage points from the 32% recorded last month before the partial government shutdown began. This is the lowest government satisfaction rating in Gallup's history of asking the question dating back to 1971. ...

The previous low of 19% was recorded in September 2011, just after Washington lawmakers reached a last-minute agreement that forestalled a government default. More broadly, less than half of Americans have been satisfied with the government since 2004.

Gallup data also show that Americans now express less favorable attitudes toward their leaders in government, and now cite dysfunctional government as the top problem facing the U.S. today.
Do you see how big this is? This is the lowest government satisfaction rating in Gallup's history. Yes, it's funny how worsening corruption, tragi-comical dysfunction, and abuse of citizens' rights makes folks turn against their rulers. We're going on almost ten years of growing disapproval of the central government in DC. Think that's going to vanish overnight? No--this can ONLY get worse.

Now's the time to plan for the inevitable collapse of the DC regime. Now's the time to check the seaworthiness of the lifeboats we're all going to need. Here's a good place to start.

Is Red State America Seceding?

Leave it to Pat Buchanan to talk about trends the ruling elite wants us to pretend not to notice. But at some point, even they will have to wake up and smell the reality:

Dutch-speaking Flanders wants to cut loose of French-speaking Wallonia in Belgium. Francophone Quebec, with immigrants from Asia and the Third World tilting the balance in favor of union, appears to have lost its historic moment to secede from Canada.

What are the forces pulling nations apart? Ethnicity, culture, history and language -- but now also economics. And separatist and secessionist movements are cropping up here in the United States.
The billionaire globalist elites and hate-filled leftists want to dissolve society and transform mankind into a mass of detached, alienated individuals mindful of nothing but short-term economic interests. Alone and lost, people can then be regimented for maximum exploitation, both economically and politically. In other words, lurking behind all the flowery rhetoric about equality is the lust for money and power.

But stubborn human nature resists their plans. We're social beings, and must have the connections to the cultures we came from. Look for more secessionist movements as a powerful counter to the doomed schemes of our self-proclaimed superiors.

The Man Who Predicted (in 1899) What America Would Become

Thomas DiLorenzo points out William Graham Sumner's warning about the import of the Spanish-American War:

In 1899 the great libertarian scholar William Graham Sumner of Yale University delivered a speech in which he warned that the Spanish-American War was a crossing-the-Rubicon event in the nation’s history that had finally transformed the nation from a constitutional republic to an empire. ...

The speech was entitled “The Conquest of the United States by Spain” to denote the fact that the Spanish-American war, an imperialistic war of conquest, was no different from the types of aggressive wars that the old empires of Europe had been waging for centuries. Having devoted his adult life to scholarly pursuits in the field of political economy (among others), William Graham Sumner was prescient in his predictions about what America would become once it embarked on the road to empire.
It was a war based on lies, with the dubious aim of spreading democracy, yet inevitably diminished freedom at home. Sound familiar? You'll definitely want to read the whole thing!

Big Government Enables Big Corruption

This Townhall article summarizes nicely one of the points we've been making on this blog: Big Government is the enemy:

It's very understandable for people to get nauseated when we see things such as lobbying for corporate welfare or campaign contributions being given in exchange for things such as ethanol subsidies.

So would it make sense to outlaw lobbying or to restrict campaign contributions? Setting aside constitutional issues (the First Amendment protects our rights to petition the government and to engage in political speech), the answer is no.

Why? Because lobbying and campaign contributions are a function of government being too big and being involved in too many areas.

If we shrink the size and scope of the state, we reduce incentives to manipulate the system. But if we leave big government in place, laws to restrict lobbying and campaign contributions will simply lead to different forms of “rent seeking.”
Endless war, the ongoing assault on our traditional rights, citizen surveillance, runaway debt--as long as DC has total control over our lives, we will live under an increasingly oppressive and destructive regime. DC makes reform within the system impossible through ballot access restrictions and effective censoring of free speech.

Before You Rejoice…

The pro-war, any war crowd is whooping and hollering over Obama's kidnapping of Abu Anas al-Libi. These folks may not like many of Obama's policies, but any exercise of executive force makes them melt into puddles of red-white-and-blue love.

Judge Andrew Napolitano offers these words of warning to this kind of behavior:

Fact: We are not at war with Libya. Fact: We cannot lawfully – under international law, American law or Libyan law – engage in law enforcement or offensive operations in Libya without the express consent of the local and national authorities. Fact: As a defendant in federal court in the Second Circuit, al-Libi must be brought to a federal judge in New York City within 48 hours of his arrest.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for him in lower Manhattan, as the feds will “debrief” al-Libi aboard ship before turning him over to federal prosecutors for trial. One can only imagine what that debriefing will be like. It will no doubt consist of torture. That’s why the interrogation is being conducted on the high seas, where the government will claim it is free to disobey any federal law. And that’s why the Geneva Conventions prohibit housing prisoners of war aboard ship.
The rogue regime in DC knows this, but does not care. At the moment, it feels immune to blowback, despite the lesson of 9/11. Let's see how much longer it can keep its eyes shut to reality.

Those patriots who swoon at the sight of "our" boys in action had better remember that this is a "global" war on terror, and the armed forces of the DC Empire not only claim that its power extends to the "homeland," but that the rules of engagement--actually, no rules limiting who can be detained or even snuffed--also apply to the entire globe. That includes the place where you live.

House members forced to reuse gym towels

Will the horrors of this shutdown never end?

House lawmakers are picking up their own towels at their private gym, which has remained open during the government shutdown.

The gym was to have been closed, but the Architect of the Capitol decided to keep the facility open because several House members store personal items inside.

No one is there to check members into the facility in the basement of the Rayburn House Office Building, which is open exclusively to current and former House members.
It's stories like this that will bring the two sides to the bargaining table--you see, perks and special privileges are theirs by divine right, so clearly, this kind of thing CAN'T go on. They just can't.

Hey, that's a good thing. I believe in efficient law enforcement. And what's more efficient than using every bit of information in the fight against crime? Especially thought crime.

China warns US: Get your fiscal house in order

This is what happens when an out-of-control government spends its way to ruin:

China, the biggest foreign creditor of the United States, has waded into the American budget crisis, warning Congress that it must resolve the political impasse over the debt ceiling without further delay.

The Chinese Vice Foreign Minister, Zhu Guangyao, told America’s deadlocked politicians on Monday that “the clock is ticking” and called on them to approve an extension of the national borrowing limit before the federal government is projected to run out of cash on 17 October.

“We ask that the United States earnestly takes steps to resolve in a timely way the political issues around the debt ceiling and prevent a US debt default to ensure the safety of Chinese investments in the United States,” Mr Zhu told reporters in Beijing. “This is the United States’ responsibility,” he added.
The hubris of our handlers in DC knows no bounds, and they thought their ability to do what they wanted had no bounds, either. DC's legions are garrisoned in Japan, Korea, and Europe, providing protection to peoples WHO CAN AFFORD TO DEFEND THEMSELVES. We're paying the bills for foreign nations such as Israel through direct subsidies. Toss in welfare payments to a growing class of dependents here at home, and what do you get? You get lectured by communists to manage your finances more responsibly, that's what.

California Nullifies Federal Immigration Law

California is slipping back into its original status of a Mexican territory. Jerry Brown, its walking corpse of a governor, is making the state a sanctuary for illegal immigrants:

The measure is the second milestone immigration bill signed by the governor in three days. On Thursday, he approved a measure allowing immigrants in the country illegally to receive California driver's licenses.

"While Washington waffles on immigration, California's forging ahead," Brown said. "I'm not waiting."

The capture of an alleged al-Qaeda operative outside his home by Special Operations forces in Tripoli on Saturday and his secret removal from Libya was a rare instance of U.S. military involvement in “rendition,” the practice of grabbing terrorism suspects to face trial without an extradition proceeding and long the province of the CIA or the FBI.
Amazing what power does to a man, isn't it? So the US once again flagrantly violates the sovereignty of two small nations and kidnaps its citizens on the suspicion they're involved in "terrorism."

And the emperor-worshipers see nothing wrong with this--and even express anger at the Somalians for resisting the capture of their compatriot.

The last battle of the WBTS?

It was von Clausewitz who observed that war is the continuation of policy by other means. For the court historians who parrot the Empire's line that the War Between the States was a noble crusade to end slavery, it's a bit embarrassing to confront facts that ruin their mythology. This article on the role of guns in American history illustrates how the end of slavery did not mean the end of conflict between Northern and Southern interests. Even the gunfight at the OK Corral was sparked by the continuing confrontation of Yanks and Rebs motivated by clashing economic interests:

Yes, most violence in the West was about money, and explicitly competing business interests. Even the most famous gunfight, the shootout at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona, had its roots in business: the Earp family, the town’s lawmen, had mining-interest disputes with the ranching Clanton and McLaury families. And over time, resentments simmered in myriad ways. The Clantons (from Texas) and McLaurys (from Iowa) identified as Southerners, while the Earps and the townspeople (from Iowa), identified as Northerners.

“The gunfight at the O.K. Corral, which is a very well-known event, was something that had social, political, cultural ramifications,” Richardson says. “You had two sides. One was Northern Republicans; one was Southern Democrats. They had conflicting mining interest, and there was a love triangle. All of these things led up to the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. We've noted before (see here, here, and here) that the WBTS was just another battle over power and money--like all other wars. Here in the real world, nations do not go on crusades to do good deeds.

POLL: 9% Have Considered Quitting U.S. Citizenship

When I was growing up, the notion of renouncing US citizenship was as unthinkable as declaring yourself a communist or atheist.

But as the term "American" becomes increasingly meaningless, thanks to DC's suicidal economic policies and its commitment to open borders, more people will accept the idea of identifying with Georgia, or Virginia, or even as a citizen of a city-state. This Rasmussen poll is a harbinger of that trend:

Few Americans have ever thought about giving up their U.S. citizenship, but nearly half think U.S. citizens should be able to be citizens of more than one country.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only nine percent (9%) of U.S. citizens have considered giving up their American citizenship.
9% doesn't sound like a lot of people, but we're talking about more than 28 million. Of the 242 countries in the world, 198 have populations of 28 million or less. Something to think about.

White House asking for sad shutdown stories

There are countless sad stories caused by the federal shutdown.

Who's going to read my emails? And track my phone use? Without federal goons monitoring my social networks, I feel ignored and unprotected.

Worse, I miss the entertainment and thrills of DC's wars of choice. How am I supposed to feel noble if I can't cheer on America's latest war to spread democracy?

We can only hope Obama will declare martial law so things can get back to normal.

Answer: "Yes!"

Here's the question:

“The government is in charge of the people.”

That's not news--the whole point of Lincoln's Counter-Revolution was to make the central government supreme. Looks like a vast majority finally gets it:

How are things working in the country today? Almost all voters -- 88 percent -- say “the government is in charge of the people.” That includes 83 percent of Democrats, 88 percent of independents and 94 percent of Republicans.

Only 8 percent feel “the people are in charge of the government.”

The Sovietization of American Life

Here, in a nutshell, is the League of the South's message to those well-meaning but misguided souls who toil for a politician who promises to "clean up Washington" or "restore freedom." The bottom line is that you're headed for heartache. To understand why, check out this excellent article by Justin Raimondo:

An empire is, invariably, a tyranny, no matter how it starts out. In its efforts to extend its frontiers, and protect its conquests, the US imperium must inevitably repress those who stand against it, who question it, and who report its depredations to the world. As the great Old Right polemicist Garet Garrett put it in his 1952 pamphlet, Rise of Empire:

"A second mark by which you may unmistakably distinguish Empire is: ‘Domestic policy becomes subordinate to foreign policy.’

"That happened to Rome. It has happened to every Empire. … the fact now to be faced is that it has happened also to us.

"It needs hardly to be argued that as we convert the nation into a garrison state to build the most terrible war machine that has ever been imagined on earth, every domestic policy is bound to be conditioned by our foreign policy.

"The voice of government is saying that if our foreign policy fails we are ruined. It is all or nothing. Our survival as a free nation is at hazard.

"That makes it simple, for in that case there is no domestic policy that may not have to be sacrificed to the necessities of foreign policy – even freedom."

Our "small government" conservatives may labor in the vineyards of politics, pushing back here and there, and perhaps even winning a victory or two on occasion, but their efforts will prove ephemeral and utterly doomed unless and until they take aim at the Empire.
Let's face it: There is NO WAY we will restore liberty as long as our rulers in DC have their hands on the machinery of surveillance and enforcement paid for by OUR tax dollars. Those who talk about "liberty" while insisting "real" patriotism means absolute loyalty to the Empire's armed forces are not just hopelessly deluded, but dangerous. You can rant against Obama and his big-government schemes all you want--if you also insist that we must obey "our" commander-in-chief, especially during times of war (which is ALL THE TIME in the Evil Empire), then you've done exactly what our handlers want you to do.

Hear that alarm? We can't ignore it any longer.

Two Americas: Why red states must be allowed to secede

More folks are acknowledging facts that can no longer be denied: America is splitting up. The option of binding it together by force can only work for so long. From Firstpost:

Conservatives (often, the red states) want America to remain largely WASP, and they are chary about diversity – though this is changing in border states like Texas and California, where Mexican immigration is radically altering the demographic composition and White farmers like having the advantage of cheap labour from beyond the border. Conservative values are battling economic reality, but the divide is clear....

This time, as the cliché goes, it is different. The issue of deep divide cannot anymore be settled by the gun. Maybe the best option is for a federation of right and left America, where each part of the federation stays in a united US but is able to apply different laws to itself.

This is the solution Americans would happily propose to any group that wants to secede elsewhere – from Bosnia to East Timor to Yugoslavia to Russia. Time they applied this logic to themselves.
The notion that political movements are about ideas rather than demographics is already in the Dempster Dumpster of history. Demography is destiny, and that observation explains everything from the test scores of schools to the GNP of entire nations. Maybe it's time for the ideologues, whether liberals or Neocons, to stop pretending and face reality.

Ed Sebesta: Supporters of mass murder have rights, too

Here's the latest cause that's got Ed Sebesta pecking away at his PC at midnight: He demands justice for Jonathan Farley. Who? Sebesta explains on his web site:

In the essay that follows, we recount the story of Jonathan Farley, but this is intended to illustrate the pressures that non-white faculty and STEM professionals (scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians) often face when encountering dominant narratives of history and American identity. We suggest that in an increasingly multiracial country, it is imperative that talented STEM professionals like Farley are not driven from their careers for expressing views that entrenched interests find disagreeable. Ethnic minority STEM professionals should be judged by their proficiency in their professions, not by whether they upset those who hold different interpretations of history. If being a STEM professional is seen by minority youth as adopting a career where they are expected to obsequiously cater to white opinion, historical or otherwise, it will not be seen as very attractive career path.
Horrors! A person of color was hounded out of his job because he refused to "obsequiously cater to white opinion." And, Sebesta argues, if Farley can be driven from his career for expressing his views, other minorities will be frightened away from careers in science. (Notice how the quote from Sebesta's site is free of glaring grammatical errors? That's because he "co-wrote" the piece with the aid of adult supervision from Dr. Euan Hague of DePaul.)

What opinion did Farley express that small-minded whites objected to? He wished most white Southerners had been wiped out during Reconstruction. Yes, if only victorious Union forces had conducted mass executions of Confederate POWS, this country would suit him better.

Here's what he said, as quoted in the Washington Times: "Every Confederate soldier deserved not a hallowed resting place at the end of his days but a reservation at the end of the gallows." In The Tennessean, Nashville's largest newspaper, Farley wrote, "the race problems that wrack America to this day are due largely to the fact that the Confederacy was not thoroughly destroyed, its leaders and soldiers executed, and their lands given to the landless freed slaves."

Instead of malice toward none and charity for all, Farley called for a bloody revolution to impose race-based socialism. What's disturbing is that's not just his view of how things should have been done during Reconstruction, but represents his present-day view.

Not only does he honor mass murderer Che Guevera in his faculty profile, he still calls for revolutionary violence against his enemies. In an email to one critic, according to the Washington Times, Mr. Farley vowed that he and his supporters would "form our own armies to expose and smash you. Very simply, we represent good and you represent evil."

Sure you do.

Ed Sebesta has a dream: One day, minorities can advocate mass murder and totalitarianism and folks will accept that. Let's hope he fails. Again.

The Greatest Gift of All

The town of Mooresville, just north of Charlotte, recently opened a new charter school. Parents who've had enough of declining scores, lockdowns, disruptive students that teachers are powerless to control, and gangs are opting out of the public schools and enrolling their kids in charter schools.

This makes the educrats unhappy. Dawn Creason, the Public Indoctrination Information Officer for Iredell-Statesville Schools, wails that when parents are allowed to choose where their children are educated, resources that could have gone to the public schools are redirected toward charter schools. Forget the benefits of safety and better education, says Creason--the government schools offer something charter schools cannot. Can you guess what that is?

"I do think that public schools are the best schools for kids," Creason said. "I think the diversity that they're exposed to, the different cultures, I just think that's in the best interest for kids, particularly kids that we're trying to prepare for a global workforce."
Isn't it amazing that government and the left have made "diversity" into the ultimate goal? All they can cite as evidence for their claims are papers from biased academics and the opinions of "diversity consultants." Here in the real world, the actual fruits of diversity can be seen in the Balkans, as well as in Iraq, Syria, and closer to home, the Los Angeles riot and the Crown Heights riot.

Then again, we've been told repeatedly that facts are racist. Guess we'd better ignore reality and believe what we're told before someone calls us a bad name.

NSA chief admits figures on terror plots foiled by snooping are misleading

Don't look now, but the Obama regime has been caught in yet another lie:

The Obama administration issued misleading figures about terrorist plots foiled by the National Security Agency’s warrantless mass-collection of records of Americans’ every phone call, NSA chief Gen. Keith Alexander admitted to lawmakers Wednesday.

“There is no evidence that [bulk] phone records collection helped to thwart dozens or even several terrorist plots,” Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, told Gen. Alexander of the 54 cases that administration officials have cited as the fruit of the NSA’s controversial domestic snooping.
Just curious--how long can a regime with no credibility, no useful purpose, and no money survive? And how much longer are we going to shovel our tax dollars to these moochers?

Texans could vote for independence in March

From the Texas Nationalist Movement:

The Texas Nationalist Movement is working to give Texas Republicans the right to cast a ballot in favor of re-establishing Texas as an independent republic in March via the petition process defined in Texas election law.

Response to the potential of a non-binding referendum on independence from has been extremely positive all over the State, with block-walkers reporting receiving signatures from as high as 80% of the registered Republicans they reached in their canvassing using the voter registration lists provided by each county.

The Petition states: "I know that the purpose of this petition is to place a referendum on the 2014 primary ballot for the REPUBLICAN PARTY that states: 'The State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation. FOR OR AGAINST'..."
How can ANYONE, liberal or conservative, oppose such a referendum? If you believe in government of the people, why should "the people" be denied the right to leave?

Opposition to this referendum means rejection of the principles of the Declaration of Independence, this country's founding document. It'll be interesting to see if it's allowed on the ballot. If not, a LOT of folks have a LOT of explaining to do.

California Governor Signs Ban on NDAA Detentions

California just dealt a mighty blow for States' Rights--and since the days of the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions, that means the rights of the people of the sovereign States. Those rights have been forcefully reaffirmed for the 21st century.

In this case, the issue is the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects; as well as the right to a speedy and public trial. The Obama regime pushed through the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012, which ignored the 4th and 6th amendments to the Constitution. In addition to renewing the people's financial burden of supporting a bloated Pentagon, the NDAA also authorized "indefinite military detention of persons the government suspects of involvement in terrorism, including U.S. citizens arrested on American soil." Yes, you read that right--mere "suspicion" is good enough to lock you away forever. So much for due process.

Here's how California responded:

After an overwhelmingly successful run through the California legislature last months, Governor Jerry Brown has signed AB351, a law banning all cooperation with the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) or any other federal attempts to indefinitely detain people.

The NDAA allows the president to place people into indefinite detention by the US military without charges or a trial on “national security” grounds and has sparked a series of lawsuits from Americans who fear detention as political dissidents.

The NDAA has been hugely controversial and several states are considering limited legislation to that end, but California took the matter a step farther and not only forbade cooperation state officials with the NDAA, but also every other federal law present or future that might be used for open-ended detentions.
That's State nullification at work. John C. Calhoun would be proud.

Opposition to D.C.'s claims to unlimited power was once denounced as "extreme." As the central government continues to collapse under its own weight, the people of the States will of necessity withdraw their consent and resume their delegated powers to self-govern. Nullification, States' Rights, and--inevitably--secession, will become mainstream, and the supporters of empire will be seen as the real extremists.

The Beginning of the End for Washington

That's not my title; it was written by the National Journal's Ron Fournier. And what follows is Fournier's prediction on what might happen next now that DC has transitioned from dysfunctional to non-functional:

Where does all this lead beyond the next election cycle or two? Nobody knows, but the best place to look for answers is within the Millennial Generation, the nation's rising leaders and voters. Last month, in a lengthy essay on Millennials [The Outsiders: How Can Millennials Change Washington If They Hate It?], I concluded that their revolutionary view of government and politics points toward two possible outcomes. One is that they might opt out of Washington, which leads us to some dark places. The second and more likely outcome is they will blow up Washington ("disruption" is the tech-inspired term they use), and build something better outside the current two-party dysfunction.

Millennials don't fit neatly into either the Democratic or Republican parties. They are highly empowered, impatient, and disgusted with politics today.
"Opting out of Washington" sounds pretty good to me, and the sooner the better. Truth is, the DC Empire is too bloated and corrupt to sputter along much farther. We're witnessing the inevitable results of political hardening of the arteries in the muck-infested maze of the world's most overgrown bureaucracy. Its only product is global chaos and death, all paid for by tax dollars that are funneled into the hands of politically connected insiders. Good riddance.

The NSA isn’t just spying on foreigners

The FISA court hears secret evidence presented by the government, with no rebuttal allowed from the targeted victim. It rubber stamps almost all requests for domestic surveillance. FISA, by the way, stands for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

You might wonder why "foreign intelligence" gathering requires spying on Americans. Well, thanks to the Civil Rights Revolution, we're all foreigners now. As Justin Raimondo observes:

In an empire such as ours, the distinction between a "foreigner" and an American is increasingly hazy: every empire is a multi-cultural polyglot, by definition, and the American imperium more so than any other, surpassing even the British. For are we not a country of immigrants, an idea more than a nation in the European sense? Americans are connected through a thousand threads to foreign nationals, and once it was deemed "legal" to collect "meta-data" – i.e. records of our phone calls – the rest followed logically and inevitably.
The mutual trust that arises naturally from a unified culture is essential to free institutions. When that trust is destroyed, only a powerful, authoritarian government can keep the lid on simmering tensions between squabbling groups.

DC knows what it's doing by engineering the most massive demographic revolution in history. It's expanding its own power, and thereby diminishing our liberty. As Thomas Jefferson warned, liberty is yielding as the government gains ground.
