XKeyscore: NSA tool collects 'nearly everything a user does on the internet'

This can't possibly be true:

A top secret National Security Agency program allows analysts to search with no prior authorization through vast databases containing emails, online chats and the browsing histories of millions of individuals, according to documents provided by whistleblower Edward Snowden.

The NSA boasts in training materials that the program, called XKeyscore, is its "widest-reaching" system for developing intelligence from the internet.

The latest revelations will add to the intense public and congressional debate around the extent of NSA surveillance programs. They come as senior intelligence officials testify to the Senate judiciary committee on Wednesday, releasing classified documents in response to the Guardian's earlier stories on bulk collection of phone records and Fisa surveillance court oversight.
You mean our government LIED to us?

A Rebel Yell for the Colonel

These days, Colonel Sanders is getting the same treatment from the company he founded as Southerners are from the nation they were instrumental in founding and serving -- after wringing all it can out of us, it's through with us and wants to forget about us.

But this article by Guy Somerset isn't about soliciting pity. Instead, it's about celebrating good ol' fashioned grit. Harland Sanders had it.

The US House jellyfish Republican list

From a reader:

Below is the list of 8 Republican traitors working to help Obama grant Amnesty to 12-20 million illegal aliens who will eventually form a new voting bloc, paralyzing any future border or immigration law enforcement.

The "illegals" (yes we are calling them what they are), are expected to vote Democrat 8 to 1 according to Pew Research. While some Democrats will enjoy this at first, their smiles will quickly fade as they too are buried beneath the next waves. This amnesty will clear the way for the next wave of 10-20 million illegal aliens combined with unprecedented levels of "legal" immigration, and add approximately 50 million new mouths to feed into America from abroad in the first 10-15 years!

Just picture 1 extra person for each 5 you see this week and you will get the picture.

What is worse is that many of these turncoats have campaigned on promises to oppose Amnesty.

Call them, write them, email them, visit them in their offices, and confront them at open meetings!

LIST OF 8 TOP REPUBLICANS CONSPIRING WITH OBAMA ON AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL'S

Paul Ryan (R-WI) 202-225-3031 [What a shock!]

President Obama Sending Drones All Around the Globe

Folks sometimes wonder why I write science fiction. Not only is it challenging, it's also the perfect medium for promoting political ideas that standard opinion pieces couldn't do justice to.

For example, I can just imagine what an editor would say about this storyline: The son of a Kenyan revolutionary spends his youth smoking weed and performing poorly in school, but somehow rises to the post of Temporary Dictator of the Evil Empire. Once in power, he unleashes a global network of remote-control spy machines.

To paraphrase Mark Twain, that's so unbelievable, it has to be a news story. And so it is:

The “next phase of drone warfare” will extend “far beyond traditional, declared combat zones," the Washington Post reports.

Africa, according to the report filed July 20, will see an enormous increase in the sorties of unmanned aerial vehicles remotely piloted by U.S. airmen. The commander of U.S. forces in Africa has purportedly requested a “15-fold increase in surveillance, reconnaissance and intelligence-gathering on the continent.”

Drone bases are going up all over Africa, so the multiplicity of missions will be easily accommodated.
So the federal government, which already conducts illegal electronic surveillance of its subjects, and has the power to indefinitely detain anyone for any reason, is expanding its use of drones.

And it's all being done to protect us. Because our government cares.

What kind of fool would believe a story like that?

Confederate Flag flies again in Missouri

Good news from The Southern Activist:

After much hard work, emails, letters and miles driven, The Southern Cross again flies over the Confederate Memorial Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. This after being banned by a prior Missouri Governor, and years of an empty pole. This is what one person can do when they have the drive to get it done!

I Want to Be a Mayor

The 19th and 20th centuries were the age of the big, ideology-based nation-state. The mass slaughter of the War of Northern Aggression and the two world wars will forever be the legacy of big government.

How inspiring it is that so many voices are endorsing small government -- not the meaningless slogan tossed around by Republicans who, once elected, impose illegal citizen surveillance and socialized medicine -- but true subsidiarity, where power is held and exercised at the local level. Here's Tom Friedman on the growing power of cities:

Washington is tied in knots by Republican-led hyperpartisanship, lobbyists and budget constraints. Ditto most state legislatures. So the great laboratories and engines of our economy are now our cities. This is the conclusion of an important new book by the Brookings Institution scholars Bruce Katz and Jennifer Bradley, entitled: “The Metropolitan Revolution: How Cities and Metros Are Fixing Our Broken Politics and Fragile Economy.”

For generations, they write, we held the view that “the feds and states are the adults in the system, setting direction; the cities and the metropolitan areas are the children, waiting for their allowance. The metropolitan revolution is exploding this tired construct. Cities and metropolitan areas are becoming the leaders in the nation: experimenting, taking risks, making hard choices.” We are seeing “the inversion of the hierarchy of power in the United States.”
What Friedman calls "the inversion of the hierarchy of power in the United States" is exactly what we need to rescue us from the insanity of empire. The phrase rings with the promise of a better world.

City-states and culturally-based region-states continue to emerge all over the globe. I suspect a political map of the near future will look more like medieval Europe rather than the bloated super-states that dominated (and terrified) humanity during the Cold War.

Know hope.

Detroit? I don't live there!

Why would anyone want to secede?

I offer the following headlines to suggest one reason:

House Set to Approve Yet More Iran Sanctions

US Drone Strike Kills Eight in North Waziristan

Iraq: Wave of Car Bombs Targets Shias, 51 Dead, 200 Injured

US Drone Strikes Kill Eight in Southern Yemen

Every one of these horrors was paid for with your tax dollars. The DC Empire is ALWAYS plotting new wars, serial killing via remote control, and propping up dictators. The strike in Yemen is particularly vile, seeing as how it used a common terrorist tactic of striking a second or even a third time in order to hit rescuers assisting the initial victims:

The six people killed in the initial strike were all dubbed “suspects,” and none of their identities are known. Two other people were killed who attempted to pull wounded people from the wreckage in additional strikes, and three wounded are said to have survived.
Note to Billy Yank and Ema Nymton: Feel the pride? You should, because this is exactly what you're defending.

Dutchy writes: Yankee Joe and Ema Nymton - we have been lashing them like a willow in a windstorm lately. I LOVE it!

Quantrill actually has markers at three grave sites. This one, located at the cemetery at the Confederate Memorial in Higginsville, MO, has only a few bones and some hair. Quantrill, originally from Ohio, was killed after the war in 1865 in Kentucky by Yankee bounty hunters. Backshot, of course, one morning when he was saddling his horse. He died a few days later.

The state of Missouri set up a Confederate veterans home at this site and by law was required to keep it open until the last veteran living there died, which was in the early 1950's, as I recall. A few years ago the governor ordered the Battle Flag down. But just recently the colors are back up and flying! It's a fair island of hallowed ground in an occupied land.

Lincoln and the First Shot of War

Check out the newest installment on the North Carolina War Between the States Sesquicentennial site. From "Prelude at Charleston Harbor":

Secession in no way prompted war, as the disagreements between North and South could have been settled without armed conflict. President James Buchanan disagreed with secession but rightly observed that as president, he had no constitutional authority to stop a State from withdrawing or could force a State to return. Buchanan was also an highly-experienced diplomat and saw statecraft, arbitration and negotiation as the proper solution to America’s problems.

Iraq Heading Toward New Civil War?

That's the headline over at Fox News -- the same Fox News that once played the role of William Hearst in whipping up war hysteria in support of W's liberation of Iraq.

But instead of paving the way toward democracy in Iraq, the toppling of Saddam Hussein has only led to chaos and misery:

As violence and political turmoil tear through a war-wrecked Iraq, military experts are warning Congress that Al Qaeda-affiliated terrorist cells are regrouping and working together not only in Iraq but in the entire region to undo a decade of U.S.-led progress.

“We left (Iraq) on the edge of being stable,” Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, a former military intelligence officer, told Fox News.

While saying it's clear the job was "not done," he warned: “Al Qaeda as an entity is coming back strong within the region and is doing things to destabilize governments, which, at this point in time, are still friendly to us."
In addition to its dead and wounded, the U.S. has incurred costs up to $6 trillion in this senseless war.

And that's how empires die -- from imperial overstretch.

Pentagon considering affirmative action in combat

What killed the Soviet Union? Communism: The regime's central ideology condemned its people to poverty and mediocrity. One day, they'd had enough.

What's killing the DC Empire? Its other-worldly fixation on equality. Here's the latest update on our own slow-motion suicide:

Senior military personnel are considering new giving women different military training than men, The Washington Times reports.

The effort was proposed by Massachusetts Democrat Rep. Niki Tsongas at a recent House Armed Services Committee hearing because so far, she says training systems do not “maximize the success of women.”

Though the armed services have promised that combat standards will be the same regardless of gender, senior officers are considering initially separate training systems.
That second paragraph is a killer: Tsongas couldn't come right out and say that women couldn't compete with men as soldiers -- instead, Political Correctness® dictated that the problem be expressed in terms of the training failing to "maximize the success of women." Got that? After all, the whole point of military training is validating equality, rather than creating a fighting force that can defend the nation.

Every day the bucket goes down to the well. One day the bottom will drop out.

Lawmakers Who Upheld NSA Phone Spying Received Double the Defense Industry Cash

The vote to end the NSA's illegal domestic spying failed this week, despite public pressure. And here's a little hint about what may have influenced our so-called "representatives'" votes:

The numbers tell the story — in votes and dollars. On Wednesday, the house voted 217 to 205 not to rein in the NSA’s phone-spying dragnet. It turns out that those 217 “no” voters received twice as much campaign financing from the defense and intelligence industry as the 205 “yes” voters.
Notice both Democrats and Republicans voted to continue funding the NSA. The Civil Rights/Imperial Complex continues to suck the lifeblood of the people.

Afghan War More Unpopular With Americans Than Iraq War Ever Was

It's a fact:

The proportion of Americans who say the war in Afghanistan has been worth fighting has dropped to 28 percent, according to a new Washington Post/ABC poll. This is the lowest support for the Afghan war ever recorded in the poll – and even lower than the Iraq war ever scored on the same question. A full two-thirds, 67 percent, say that the Afghan war has not been worth fighting.
This makes the responsibilities of our elected representatives crystal clear: It's time to find a new war Americans can support.

Putting the latest political/sex scandal in perspective

Disgusted by the unending tale of liberal Democrat Anthony Weiner and his 4G perversions? Then you're desperate for an alternative candidate -- and as Pat Buchanan explains, you have alternatives, all richly representative of the Empire's dominant morality. If you don't like Sodom, there's always Gomorrah:

Weiner’s strongest challenger for mayor is a lesbian about to marry another lesbian. The sitting mayor and governor are divorced and living with women not their wives. The former mayor’s second wife had to go to court to stop his girlfriend from showing up at Gracie Mansion....

Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Hillary Clinton marched in gay pride parades with the North American Man/Boy Love Association. Anyone doubt that NAMBLA will one day succeed in having the age of consent for sex between men and boys dropped into the middle or low teens?
So if you don't like Weiner's antics, just hold on -- the worst is yet to come.

How to stop DC

It's easier than you think:

How Nancy Pelosi Saved the NSA Surveillance Program

Foreign Policy exposes Nancy Pelosi's role in saving the NSA from the rubes who don't like being spied on. As we've noted before, "liberal" and "conservative" are meaningless terms in today's political arena. These days, it's all about the ruling elite versus the serfs.

What is our greatest threat?

Let's see -- our betters in DC can spy on our emails and phone calls, detain us indefinitely at a whim, and even order a drone strike if we get uppity -- but the real threat, says Chris Christie, is none other than Rand Paul:

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is ripping libertarians - including Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). - for challenging government surveillance programs and failing to understand the dangers of terrorism.

“This strain of libertarianism that’s going through parties right now and making big headlines I think is a very dangerous thought,” the New Jersey GOP governor said on Thursday at a Republican governors forum in Aspen, Colo. “You can name any number of people and (Paul is) one of them.”
Chris Christie wants his government to be like him -- big, blobby, and voracious.

Nancy Pelosi schedules Democratic hearing on 'race and justice'

Here's a howler for you: In light of the [entirely fabricated] "controversy" over the George Zimmerman trial, Congressional Democrats are going to conduct hearings on "race and justice." It's bad enough that Nancy Pelosi will chair them, but check out who's speaking:

The scheduled panelists are Southern Poverty Law Center founder Morris Dees, Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson [a member of the National Association of Black Journalists], and civil rights lawyer Maya Wiley, president of the Center for Social Inclusion.
That sounds like a balanced cross-section of opinion. I guess Tim Wise and Colin Ferguson couldn't work the hearings into their schedules.

Sebesta bait

In What Ever Happened to American Regionalism? Ira Chernus, a professor of Religious Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder, ponders the impact of "the power of locale and regionalism" on American history:

When FDR put out a patriotic call to all Americans to aid of Britain in its fight against Nazi Germany, white Southerners were the first to rally round the flag. They had good economic reasons: Their agricultural-based economy benefited most from free trade policies that were threatened by the Nazis, and the Roosevelt administration wooed them by putting a disproportionate number of new military bases in the South. FDR insured white Southern support by promising to keep the rapidly growing military strictly segregated.

But the white South was also moved by its traditional masculine code of honor, which had always been acted out most vividly in wartime. And white Southerners, despite their intense regionalism, still felt wounded by their lingering sense of being treated as second-class Americans (at best), a vestige of the Civil War that remained very much alive three-quarters of a century later.
Chernus concludes that regionalism is still very much alive, so much so that he wonders if a looser arrangement among the States might be a more appropriate system of government: "What would be wrong with imagining 'the United States' as merely a loose administrative structure for a group of quite autonomous regions?"

Fancy that -- the History News Network just dumped nationalism and endorsed confederation.

The people have spoken -- and the Congress ignores them

Thanks to the revelations of Edward Snowden, we, the people know we're being illegally spied on by our own government, and we don't like it one bit:

In the wake of the recent disclosure of two classified U.S. surveillance programs, most Americans disapprove of the government collecting the phone numbers of ordinary Americans, but approve of its monitoring those suspected of terrorist activity, according to a new CBS News poll.

Seventy-five percent of Americans approve of federal agencies collecting the phone records of people the government suspects of terrorist activity, but a 58 percent majority disapproves of this type of data collection in the case of ordinary Americans.
In other words, we insist the government cannot nose around our private communications unless it does so within the guidelines set by the 4th Amendment: "no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause."

So how have the "representatives of the people" responded? With their usual contempt, of course:

A U.S. spy program that sweeps up vast amounts of electronic communications survived a legislative challenge in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, the first attempt to curb the data gathering since former NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealed details of its scope.

The House of Representatives voted 217-205 to defeat an amendment to the defense appropriations bill that would have limited the National Security Agency's ability to collect electronic information, including phone call records.
Isn't it wonderful to live in a democracy?

Lindsey Graham Wants War with Iran at the End of the Summer

One of our most beloved commenters, Ema Nymton, claims the DC Empire is a "peaceful nation-state" with an "open citizen government."

And yet, here's that manly man Lindsey Graham rattling his sabre once again. Li'l Lindsey, by the way, loudly defended Obama's illegal domestic spying.

You go, girl!

Quote of the day

"The key ingredient in bringing tyranny to America is a left-right coalition that will institutionalize the Surveillance State, and destroy the last remnants of the Bill of Rights. United on the need to continue America’s wars of aggression in the Middle East and elsewhere, this left-right coalition is closing ranks in Congress and in the hawkish wings of both parties in defense of the Surveillance State." Justin Raimondo

Here's more on the left-right coalition that defends and promotes the National Security State.

The next great Civil Rights crusade

After a number of recent court decisions mandating same-sex "marriage," many conservatives predicted it was just a matter of time until we'd hear demands for the recognition of group marriage (polyamory).

But there's a cause more pressing than the "right" of three or more to consider themselves married. That cause is neatly summarized in the following headline and linked story:

13-year-old girl raped by more than a dozen illegal aliens in Texas

Not only does this crisis pertain to the ongoing and escalating War against the Family, but also reveals the great cultural divide that's only going to escalate, as articles such as this illustrate. In Mexico, you see, the age of consent is 12, rather than 18, as required by those stuffy old Anglos. And laws that enforce the values of white culture are inherently racist, as any tenured radical will kindly explain to you. (Hint: It's called "white privilege.")

That's why I predict lowering the age of consent to 12 will be the next battle in the never-ending Civil Rights crusade. It would strike a double blow against white culture, on both traditional sex roles as well as on traditional cultural norms. It's a win-win for multiculturalism.

This might explain things...

With no other pressing issues before them, the Detroit City Council passed a resolution "supporting the U.S. Justice Department investigation into the slaying of Florida teen Trayvon Martin."

The city is $20 billion in debt, and is swirling faster in its own self-made death spiral, and its elected leaders are all wound up about a thug getting killed in FLORIDA?

Yes, this explains a lot about Detroit's troubles.

Quote of the day

"Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd." Alexis de Tocqueville

Thanks to Earl for the quote!

Will Trayvon Martin Become Part of Federal Mythology?

The shapers of approved thought failed miserably in the Saint Trayvon fiasco, says Gail Jarvis, largely because they no longer control the flow of information. The Internet has changed all that. And that's a good thing:

The media must be chagrined that its attempt to malign George Zimmerman fell short of expectations. Not only did media’s biased reporting fail to produce the public reaction it hoped for, but in the long run it may have precipitated a much needed reappraisal of society and media....

Surely members of the liberal media realized that Trayvon Martin’s past history would eventually emerge. The public now knows that media’s Pollyanna portrayal of Trayvon Martin was fiction designed to mold public opinion. Facts have emerged about his drug use, his three school suspensions, – one for having stolen jewelry and burglary tools; his truancy and his text messages about the acquisition of guns. We have seen photographs of him at his correct age rather than the “young boy” photos that the media foisted upon us. And we know that Trayvon’s incorrigible behavior caused his birth mother to kick him out, telling him to move instead into the house of his father’s latest girlfriend.
Then again, some people are simply immune to the facts. Those of us who aren't have yet another powerful tool at our disposal.

As Mr. Jarvis points out, the credibility of the lapdog media has taken another big hit. Let us give thanks for small miracles.

The U.S. Is a Failed State: Dissolve It

Michael S. Rozeff joins the emerging consensus that recognizes that the DC Empire is unsustainable:

The main reason why Americans should dissolve the Union is that it is a failed state. For those who believe in the efficacy and goodness of states, their most essential, central and important task is to keep the peace within their domain. This goal entails protecting the lives and property of the citizens under its protection, the people of the United States.

Perfection of the government at keeping the peace is not to be expected. A certain amount of failure of a state to keep the peace is normal and tolerable, but at some point when war becomes the norm or becomes so extensive, permanent and destructive that keeping the peace is all but forgotten or impossible to attain, we can safely declare that the state has failed. This has happened with the U.S.

It diverts us too greatly to recount in detail the history of the repeated failures of the U.S. government to keep the peace. The Civil War (1861-1865) was a notable failure, the end result of which was a Union no longer operating under any pretense of consent but instead at the point of a gun.
The Spanish-American War followed by the Philippine-American War set the U.S. on a path of empire, which necessarily could not be peaceful because it would involve Americans in global conflicts.
To put it another way, what is it about the DC Empire that's worth defending? Is it the endless wars? The ongoing slaughter of innocent civilians around the world? The mindless waste of American lives and property? Or is it the cozy feeling of knowing the Department of Homeland Security is monitoring your Internet use and phone calls?

The longer we put off the inevitable, the fewer choices we will have. It's time we écrasez l'infâme.

Black privilege exposed at Winston-Salem State

The former director of the school's IT department saw too many signs of widespread, university-sanctioned cheating, but had no solid evidence -- until she met a professor troubled by similar concerns. From The John William Pope Center:

Over the holiday break in 2012, however, I met with a faculty member who had the records to back her story.

She stated that before leaving WSSU, a student came to her office and thanked her for “giving” her an “A” when she knew that she had barely earned a “B” in a nursing course. The professor was stunned to hear that and decided to go back into the student record keeping system to see if she had made a mistake.

Looking at the records, she saw that four of her grades had been changed from B to A, and one from an F to an Incomplete. In each instance, the student who benefited was black. Also, white students who had higher averages than those whose grades were raised all remained at the lower, correct, grades. She documented all of the changes on her records.

When this professor complained to the administration about the grade changes, officials took no action except to create such a hostile work environment for her that she quit. Because she quit, however, she avoided the usual confiscation routine and was therefore able to escape with her records. I am confident that her records are only the tip of the iceberg and other faculty members are still reaching out to me with additional evidence about grade increases.
As long as this make-believe education charade is passed off as the real thing, we're only going to dig ourselves deeper holes of incompetence and debt. Meanwhile, in China...

Detroit is only just the beginning

From Zero Hedge:

When the next major financial crisis strikes, we are going to see a wave of municipal bankruptcies unlike anything we have ever seen before.

And of course the biggest debt problem of all in this country is the U.S. government. We are going to pay a great price for piling up nearly 17 trillion dollars of debt and over 200 trillion dollars of unfunded liabilities.

All over the nation, our economic infrastructure is being gutted, debt levels are exploding and poverty is spreading. We are consuming far more wealth than we are producing, and our share of global GDP has been declining dramatically.
The Empire is unsustainable. With its endless wars, obscene military budget, and suicidal immigration policy, it can only go the way of all empires.

HUD's new "diversity" agenda

Letting people naturally congregate in communities they feel welcome and safe in is eeeevil. So the federal government HAS to do something about that. From CNS News:
The goal is to help communities understand "fair housing barriers" and "establish clear goals" for "improving integrated living patterns and overcoming historic patterns of segregation."

“This proposed rule represents a 21st century approach to fair housing, a step forward to ensuring that every American is able to choose to live in a community they feel proud of – where they have a fair shot at reaching their full potential in life,” said HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan. “For the first time ever," Donovan added, "HUD will provide data for every neighborhood in the country, detailing the access African American, Latino, Asian, and other communities have to local assets, including schools, jobs, transportation, and other important neighborhood resources that can play a role in helping people move into the middle class." ...

"Make no mistake, this is a big deal," Donovan said. "With the HUD budget alone, we are talking about billions of dollars. And as you know, decades ago, these funds were used to support discrimination. Now, they will be used to expand opportunity and bring communities closer to the American Dream."
Yes, this IS a big deal -- "every neighborhood in the country" will be monitored for compliance. Too much freedom allows folks to live in ways our handlers don't like. Eventually, all housing decisions will be made by a central housing czar. Then we'll have better arrangements that are more "just," as determined by the Comrade Kapruginas in HUD.

Quote of the day

"If it is now evidence of 'racism' and 'neo-Confederate' sympathies to hold that the Civil War was a horrific tragedy which might reasonably have been avoided – and slavery abolished peacefully, as it was in every other nation on earth – then we have truly entered Bizarro World, where up is down and opposition to mass murder by the State is a hate crime." Woman Harassed by Death Threats After Zimmerman Verdict

This story illustrates just how clueless and vicious Saint Trayvon's supporters really are:

Lori Tankel's life has been a living hell since a jury acquitted George Zimmerman of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Trayvon Martin.

Although she wasn't remotely connected to the case, Tankel, of Winter Park, Fla., has received numerous death threats since the verdict.

It seems her phone number is one digit away from the number Zimmerman used to make his call to police just before he fatally shot Martin on Feb. 26, 2012.

That call and the phone number were played repeatedly during the trial, and Tankel says someone posted her number online thinking it was his.
They reject the outcome of the trial they demanded, and refuse to acknowledge the facts that have been verified by the evidence and eyewitnesses. Stay classy, lefties!

NY food stamp recipients are shipping welfare-funded groceries to relatives in Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Haiti

This is just mind-boggling:

Food stamps are paying for trans-Atlantic takeout — with New Yorkers using taxpayer-funded benefits to ship food to relatives in Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Welfare recipients are buying groceries with their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards and packing them in giant barrels for the trip overseas, The Post found.

The practice is so common that hundreds of 45- to 55-gallon cardboard and plastic barrels line the walls of supermarkets in almost every Caribbean corner of the city.

The feds say the moveable feasts go against the intent of the $86 billion welfare program for impoverished Americans.
And what does this say about the actual situation of the "poor" in this country?

Why the U.S. Executive Branch Is a Clear and Present Danger to Our Democracy

Strange, isn't it, that as Southern heritage is increasingly demonized (the largest front in the regime's war against traditional America) and small-government libertarianism is also vilified, the dangers of centralized big government that both camps have warned about are being proven true. This article by Fred Branfman explains why the breezy assurances that potential abuses of federal power will be prevented by elections are empty:

Edward Snowden's revelations have illuminated the most critical political issue facing America today: how an authoritarian U.S. Executive Branch which has focused on war abroad for the last 50 years now devotes increasing resources to surveillance, information management, and population control at home, posing a far greater threat to Americans' liberties than any conceivable foreign foe.

Snowden's view of the basic issue is [5] that "I don't want to live in a world where everything that I say, everything I do, everyone I talk to, every expression of creativity or love or friendship,is recorded. That's not something I'm willing to live under."
From Lincoln to Wilson to Nixon, and on to the special example of Obama, the Chief Executive has amassed a frightening amount of unaccountable, arbitrary power. The Neocon-Leftist alliance that now defines what's permissible to say and think is firmly behind protecting and expanding that power. How much tyranny can we endure? I don't know how much people can tolerate. One thing's for sure, though: Sooner or later, something's gotta give. The current hysteria from the ruling elite and its defenders in reaction to dissent rises from their realization that their rotten system is crumbling.

Know hope.

Former editor of Rand Paul’s Neo-Confederate staffer talks about the Southern Avenger

Well, this is disappointing:

Long before last’s week Washington Free Beacon story kicked up a two-day media storm, Jack Hunter knew that the Republican establishment was working to out him as a neo-Confederate and a racist, a move he believed could hurt the one-time City Paper columnist’s boss, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul. He’d even sent me an e-mail asking me to remove dozens of posts, ones that he said no longer reflected his current worldview.

While I told him that I would have removed one or two posts — it’s not uncommon for writers to hastily pen a column they later regret — I found the breadth of the request to be excessive, and to be honest, quite cowardly. Doing so, I told Jack, was a repudiation of the very persona he had created as a writer and radio personality. It was a denial of the very views that had made him a local media celebrity and a rising star in the so-called liberty movement, and as such, a slap in the face to all those who had ever supported him.
Lesson learned? Never let the enemy define the battle or what's right and what's wrong -- their values are warped and anti-human. And never, NEVER, concede the moral high ground to the forces of political correctness and globalism. THEY are the immoral ones.

Appeals Court Affirms NDAA Indefinite Detentions

Guess what? If you were looking to the federal government to protect you from the abuses of the federal government, here's your wake-up call:

A Federal Appeals Court in New York has thrown out a previous ban on the enforcement of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) statute allowing the president to impose indefinite detention without trial.

A 2012 lawsuit against the NDAA, brought by Chris Hedges, Daniel Ellsberg, Noam Chomsky and others, had sought to preemptively block the federal government from using the NDAA to detain them as dissidents, since the bill was extremely vague about who it could apply to and granted presidents seemingly enormous latitude on the matter.

Judge Katherine Forrest twice ruled in their favor, and in September permanently blocked the use of the NDAA’s detention clause. It is that block which was removed today by the Appellate Court, which ruled that Hedges et al hadn’t established “sufficient basis to fear detention.”
This comes hot on the heels of the revelation that NSA spying on Americans is "exponentially beyond" the abuses Edward Snowden warned us about.

DC is a monster that cannot be controlled.

Detroit files for Chapter 9 bankruptcy

All right, let's all take a deep breath and handle this logically. First the facts: This is the largest municipal bankruptcy case in U.S. history.

So let's roll up our shirt sleeves, put our heads together and try to answer that one, vital question: How can we blame this on white racism?

Justice for Edmund Perry!

The Trayvon Martin story is suspiciously similar to this 1985 black-on-white assault case -- with the corporate media playing the same tune as it did with Trayvon. One of Ann Coulter's best!

The Age of the Double Standard

The NAACP sicced their dogs on George Zimmerman, and the FBI sniffed all over Sanford in search of the tiniest trace of the suspect's "racism." But it was all for naught:

After interviewing nearly three dozen people in the George Zimmerman murder case, the FBI found no evidence that racial bias was a motivating factor in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, records released Thursday show.

Even the lead detective in the case, Sanford Det. Chris Serino, told agents that he thought Zimmerman profiled Trayvon because of his attire and the circumstances — but not his race.

Serino saw Zimmerman as “having little hero complex, but not as a racist.”

The Duval County State Attorney released another collection of evidence in the Zimmerman murder case Thursday, including reports from FBI agents who investigated whether any racial bias was involved in Trayvon’s Feb. 26 killing.
And yet, any proof of Trayvon Martin's violent past was not allowed in testimony:

Trayvon Martin's familiarity with guns, his marijuana use, and fights he may have been in cannot be brought up in George Zimmerman's murder trial, the judge overseeing the case ruled Tuesday.

At the hearing two weeks before the scheduled start of the trial, Judge Debra Nelson handed a series of victories to the prosecution when she barred the defense from introducing some information about Martin.

Defense attorneys argued that some of the evidence could prove crucial in backing up Zimmerman's claim of self-defense, depending on what the prosecution argues.
So -- while Zimmerman's past behavior CONTINUES to be closely examined, Trayvon's past can't be considered.

It's enough to make you think this is a political trial, isn't it?

Boehner endorses push for citizenship for children of illegal immigrants

Finally - Hispanics have someone OTHER than La Raza, the Democratic Party, and the corporate media to represent their interests:

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Wednesday offered an endorsement for a proposal to grant citizenship to children who were brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents.

“This is about basic fairness,” Boehner said one week after convening a two-hour meeting to discuss immigration with his conference.

“These children were brought here of no accord of their own, and frankly they’re in a very difficult position,” he said. “And I think many of our members believe that this issue needs to be addressed.”
My response to Boehner's last paragraph is in my post entitled, "I've changed my mind about amnesty."

Illegal voter gets 5-year prison term

And we were PROMISED that the whole idea of fraudulent voting was a right-wing fantasy!

Quote: "I'll fight it for Mr. Obama and Mr. Obama's right to sit as president of the United States."

Be a snitch for civil rights

Eric Holder's misnamed Department of Justice is asking for all the dirt that can be dug up on George Zimmerman:

The U.S. Department of Justice on Monday afternoon appealed to civil rights groups and community leaders, nationally and in Sanford, for help investigating whether a federal criminal case might be brought against George Zimmerman for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, one advocate said.

... DOJ officials also said they would open a public email address so people could send in tips on the case.
What would be useful to the goons at the DOJ? What's "racist" these days? What isn't? Has Zimmerman ever expressed opposition to affirmative action? To amnesty for illegal aliens? Or to any of Obama's agenda? As a matter of fact, with just the right amount of imagination, almost anything can be construed in such a way as to damn you.

Welcome to the United Stasi of America.

Hispanic Influx Causes Tensions with Blacks in the South

Not sure if we should laugh or cry at this story:

In a region where race relations traditionally have been defined in terms of Black and White, an influx of immigrants to the Deep South in the last decade has upset the delicate cultural balance and created tensions among longtime residents and new ethnic groups.

The changing demographics have forced the South to again confront its prejudices as it becomes home to unfamiliar cultures. [??!!??] This time, however, the resistance has come not only from whites, but the region's largest minority group, African-Americans.

"There are tensions between whites and Blacks, between whites and Hispanics, and between Blacks and Hispanics," said Walter Farrell Jr., associate director of the Urban Investment Strategy Center at the University of North Carolina. "In rural areas, in particular, there has been such minimal diversity in the past, and now this quick influx of immigrants is changing the cultural fabric of these conservative communities."
That second paragraph is a hoot. Yes, the South is THE ONLY PLACE IN THE WORLD where demographic upheaval causes problems. (Well, there's California -- see Latino Gangs Launch Attacks on Black Families in Compton to Drive Them Out of the City and Black-Hispanic gang rivalries send chill through L.A.)

I wonder how much domestic violence we need to have before people recall why borders are a good idea. Problem is, with the "See no evil" ruling elite, it's going to take a lot to undo the damage once the problem is recognized. A lot.

Utah legislator calls for end to compulsory education

Is this an idea whose time has come? I say yes:

The idea of forcing children to attend school is outdated and should be scrapped in favor of a system that encourages learning by choice, state Sen. Aaron Osmond said in calling for an end to compulsory education in Utah.

"Some parents act as if the responsibility to educate, and even care for their child, is primarily the responsibility of the public school system," the South Jordan Republican first wrote on a state Senate blog on Friday.

"As a result, our teachers and schools have been forced to become surrogate parents, expected to do everything from behavioral counseling, to providing adequate nutrition, to teaching sex education, as well as ensuring full college and career readiness."
The US continues to slip in international educational rankings, and no wonder: The government schools are hornets' nests of uncontrollable students who DO NOT want to be there, and make their feelings abundantly clear. They ruin the classroom environment for those who want to learn.

Quote of the day

"A nation must ravage itself before foreigners can ravage it." ― Yukio Mishima

Four Children Gunned Down in Chicago During Zimmerman Trial

But no one cares about black-on-black crime. And that's not just an anecdote -- in fact, as Walter Williams has pointed out, 94 percent of all murdered blacks are killed by other blacks.

It's enough to make you suspect than anything that can't be blamed on whites doesn't concern some people.

“If Trayvon Was White, What Would Have Happened?" Rachel Jeantel Asks

That's a good question, Rachel. And thank you for providing part of the answer.

We have a pretty good idea of what would've happened if Trayvon had been white, and had been shot by an Hispanic who claimed self-defense.

For one thing, the media would've told the truth about George Zimmerman's ethnic background. They would have portrayed Zimmerman as an innocent Hispanic who was jumped by a young Southern redneck looking for trouble. The nation's "ugly debate" about creating a "path to citizenship" for immigrants would've been invoked as a key factor in white Trayvon's "obvious hatred" toward Hispanics.

We would also have heard the truth about Trayvon's troubled past. The media would've stressed how this young man had been suspended from school twice, once for vandalism, and again for being caught with stolen jewelry and burglary tools. His marijuana use would've been cited as further evidence of his delinquency.

Then we'd hear about the hypocrisy of Southern culture, which presents an ideal of tight-knit families, though Trayvon's parents had divorced when he was only four. We would have heard a great deal of condemnation of Trayvon's mother for having kicked the boy out because he was impossible to discipline. And, over and over, the talking heads would have reminded us that white Trayvon was not a resident of Sanford, but only visiting the home of his father's current girl friend.

You know how unstable Southern families are.

But one fact the media would've hammered over and over was white Trayvon's "homophobia," yet another affliction brought about by his Southern upbringing. In her interview with Piers Morgan, Jeantel revealed Trayvon's simmering hatred of homosexuals, a hatred he projected onto George Zimmerman:

"People need to understand, he didn't want that creepy ass cracka going to his father or girlfriend's house to go get -- mind you, his little brother is there. Mind you I told you, I told Trayvon, [Zimmerman] might have been a rapist."
Only a raving homophobe would see Zimmerman -- who was not only the son of a Peruvian immigrant, but an aspiring officer of the law -- as someone who might rape him or his little brother. Typical Southern bias.

But oddly, the things that black Trayvon said and did are interpreted very differently if our imaginary white Trayvon had said and done the same things. Interesting, eh?

The Zimmerman Persecution: Shut It Down, Mr. President

Pat Buchanan imagines -- hopes -- that rationality will prevail:

In the Big Media, which has relentlessly sought out the voices of those most incensed by the verdict in Sanford, Fla., that is how the Saga of Trayvon Martin is being told. And from listening to TV reports of the rage across black America, that is what is widely believed there.

But is that what happened? Well, not exactly.

Trayvon Martin was not shot while walking home.

He was shot after sucker-punching George Zimmerman, breaking his nose, knocking him down, jumping on top of him, beating him martial arts style and banging his head on a concrete walk, while Zimmerman screamed again and again, "Help me, help me."
I'm afraid we're too far gone. This country is sliding down the tubes too fast for calmer minds to turn the tide at this point. The ongoing demonstrations against the "not guilty" verdict are only intensifying in rhetoric and destruction, urged on by race hustlers who invented a "white cracker" as the villain and an innocent black child as the victim.

The powers that be concocted the mythology about black victimhood to advance and justify their power. Now they're going to start reaping what they've sown.

Obama releases statement on Zimmerman trial

Obama calls for calm:

"The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy. Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America. I know this case has elicited strong passions. And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher. But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son."
Apparently, it's not just the "far-right" that fears the possible repercussions of this verdict. But look how Obama ends his statement:

"We should ask ourselves if we're doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, that's a job for all of us. That's the way to honor Trayvon Martin."

And exactly WHY would I want to "honor Trayvon Martin"?

Thanks to Gail for the heads up!

Rioters protest Zimmerman verdict

Check out these pictures of rioters in California smashing windows and setting fires because George Zimmerman was found innocent. Notice the geriatric hippies from the "Freedom Socialist Party" marching with the New Black Panthers. Bird brains of a feather.

Guess they don't like the idea of an Hispanic getting a fair trial.

This day in history

In 1789, the storming and destruction of the Bastille marked the beginning of the French Revolution.

It's been said that the difference between neo-Conservatives and paleo-Conservatives is that while both agree our problems started in the 60's, neos mean the 1960s while paleos mean the 1860s. In fact, today's tribulations began with the French Revolution. We're still feeling the aftershocks of that bloody mess.

NAACP calls on Obama admin to pursue civil rights charges against Zimmerman

The Zen of Sebesta

The latest posting from Ed Sebesta not only reveals the depth of his obsessive hatred of "neo-Confederacy," but also provides clues to just how disconnected his thoughts are from both reality and the rules of grammar:

"Is like a rising damp neo-Confederacy is penetrating the conservative movement? Or is it a movement that occasionally shows up in the conservative movement, but there is no general trend of neo-Confederacy being adopted by the conservative movement.

It might be that either scenario is a current possibility and the conservative movement, if it wishes not to be neo-Confederate needs to take strong measures to prevent that from happening."
All punctuation (or lack thereof) and butchery of syntax are original. I mean, who could make up stuff like that?

I know the above quote sounds like the burblings of a brain trauma victim on crystal meth, but is instead the most recent pronouncement from the self-described Leading National Researcher on the Neo-Confederate Movement. Isn't it comforting to know he isn't on our side?

Not Guilty -- Beyond Reasonable Doubt

We interrupt the media distortions to bring you a few facts about the George Zimmerman trial. Let's start with this:

Trayvon Martin: 5'11"

George Zimmerman: 5'7"

There. And you probably thought a burly, "wannabe cop" attacked a child. And here's Pat Buchanan:

That the prosecution in the Zimmerman trial asked the judge to allow a verdict of “third-degree murder” — i.e., child abuse, since Trayvon Martin was 17 — testifies to the prosecution’s failure and panic.

For George Zimmerman’s defense has proven, beyond a reasonable doubt, that he shot Trayvon Martin not out of malice, rage or hate — but in a desperate act of self-defense.

Zimmerman was being beaten “ground-and-pound,” mixed martial arts style. His head was being banged on the cement. Screaming again and again for help, he pulled out his gun and fired.

Even the prosecution is now conceding Trayvon might have been on top, and is now scrambling for a compromise verdict on a lesser charge than second-degree murder, a charge that never should have been brought. Indeed, this trial should never have been held.

What we have witnessed in Sanford, Fla., is the prosecution of an innocent man for murder because the politically and socially powerful demanded it.
But then, no matter what the facts happen to be, this IS a political trial rather than an exercise in logic. To make things worse, the judge in this case has played the role of political commissar instead of that of an impartial judge. Even more unsettling is the possibility we could see riots NO MATTER the outcome, whether out of rage or celebration. Either way, there will be no winners.

Rand, Ron and Race

Need a laugh? Check out this post from a Washington, D.C. insider attacking the Pauls, the League of the South, and Dr. Thomas DiLorenzo. The author, Anthony Clark, was working for Rep. Lacy Clay when Dr. DiLorenzo testified before Congress on the Federal Reserve. Clark also takes shots at the League of the South and this blog as "extremist" (translation: disagrees with the crooks in power), and dismisses the Southern Nationalist Network because it promotes secession. (Just imagine: Someone is promoting the founding principle of the United States. What IS this world coming to?)

This minion of the ruling elite then parrots the usual charge that the League of the South is a "hate group." In fact, the League of the South has NO racial restrictions on membership. On the other hand, Rep. Lacy Clay, Mr. Clark's former employer, rejected Rep. Steve Cohen from membership in the Congressional Black Caucus saying, "He's white and the Caucus is black."

I'll close with a link to the Word of the Day, dedicated to Anthony Clark.

"CNN says George Zimmerman is a 'White Hispanic' because his father is white, and his mother is Hispanic. So why don't they refer to Obama as a 'White Kenyan'?" anti-antifa

Oh, we all know the answer to that one, anti-antifa. If Zimmerman had been killed by a white, the media would've been screaming about the murder of an Hispanic. But in Trayvon's case, Zimmerman NEEDS to be white, so he's white.

Dominicans Freak Out Over Obama's Gay Ambassador Pick

Gee, Wally:

Opposition to President Obama's nominee for U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic reached a fever pitch this week as religious organizers stage a "Lunes Negro" or Black Monday protest against James "Wally" Brewster.

If confirmed, Brewster will be the first openly gay ambassador to the country, a prospect that is not going over well with some segments of this conservative Christian country of 9 million people. Local reports indicate that church leaders are pressuring the government to reject Brewster's nomination and calling on the faithful to dress in black on Monday in solidarity against him.
"Wally," a major fundraiser for Obama, is the National LGBT Co-Chair for the Democratic National Committee. But it looks like Latinos aren't too happy about LGBT inclusion in the "Big Tent." Funny how "diversity" sounds good until someone actually puts it into practice.

A Tale of Two Secessionists

Both the Marxist and Neocon defenders of big government have come after Jack Hunter with knives sharpened. Apparently, it's unacceptable that Senator Rand Paul have a staffer who was once in a secessionist organization:

Prior to his radio career, while in his 20s, Hunter was a chairman in the League of the South, which “advocates the secession and subsequent independence of the Southern States from this forced union and the formation of a Southern republic.”

“The League of the South is an implicitly racist group in that the idealized version of the South that they promote is one which, to use their ideology, is dominated by ‘Anglo-Celtic’ culture, which is their code word for ‘white’,” said Mark Pitcavage, the director of investigative research at the ADL.
As we all know, Hunter has renounced many of his views, though that hasn't calmed down his detractors (has it ever?).

But let's take a look at another political activist with a similar history -- yet very different reception from the media.

Tony Villar joined the UCLA chapter of MEChA, the "Movimiento Estudiantíl Chicano de Aztlán," or Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan and became that group's leader. MEChA's founding statement asserts:

In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal "gringo" invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlán from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny.

We are free and sovereign to determine those tasks, which are justly called for by our house, our land, the sweat of our brows, and by our hearts. Aztlán belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops and not to the foreign Europeans. We do not recognize capricious frontiers on the bronze continent.
Talk about your idealized version of history! The organization's goal is to recover "lost Territories" of the Southwestern United States and form a Chicano country called Aztlan.

A youthful indiscretion? Maybe -- but Tony Villar never denounced MEChA's goals. And later, when Villar changed his name to Antonio Villaraigosa and ran for mayor of Los Angeles, no one one challenged him about his former advocacy of Latino secession. Nor was the issue raised during his tenure as mayor from 2005 to 2013.

When Villaraigosa chaired the 2012 Democratic National Convention, his secessionist past was not so much as whispered in the national media.

Two similar pasts, and two very different outcomes. It makes you wonder if some secessionist movements are more equal than others.

The power of story

Vox Day's ongoing battle with the politically correct leadership of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America is just one more example of how leftists tend to dominate literature (and all the arts). It's so bad that a conservative/libertarian can be mercilessly persecuted for expressing his actual views.

So this piece by Rod Dreher reminds us that it's crucial for conservatives to not only learn to appreciate fiction, but write it, too. Political screeds have their place, but, as Dreher argues, true conservatism, like fiction, must be shown rather than told:

Argument has its place, but story is what truly moves the hearts and minds of men. The power of myth—which is to say, of storytelling—is the power to form and enlighten the moral imagination, which is how we learn right from wrong, the proper ordering of our souls, and what it means to be human. Russell Kirk, the author of The Conservative Mind whose own longtime residence in his Michigan hometown earned him the epithet “Sage of Mecosta,” considered tending the moral imagination to be “conservatism at its highest.”

More counties join effort to secede from Colorado

Don't look now, but the "s" word has roared back into our political vocabulary. A secessionist movement is picking up steam in Colorado:

Ten counties, including Weld and Morgan, started talking about seceding last month. Now some people Lincoln and Cheyenne counties say they want to join a new state they’d call “North Colorado.”

Organizers of the secession effort say their interests are not being represented at the state Capitol. Representatives from the 10 counties held a meeting on Monday in the town of Akron in Weld County to begin mapping the boundaries for the new state they say will represent the interests of rural Colorado.

The secessionist movement is the result of a growing urban-rural divide, which was exacerbated after this year’s legislation session where lawmakers raised renewable energy standards for rural electric co-ops, floated bills increasing regulations on oil and gas, and passed sweeping gun control.
I'm not too thrilled about a second State with the initials "NC." But I guess that's a small price to pay for secession getting more coverage.

Jack Hunter's mistake

An anonymous commenter posted this complaint yesterday in response to Jack Hunter's disavowal of pro-Southern (and therefore heretical) thoughts he expressed many years ago:

"You think you know somebody, and they turn out to be a defender of sodomy and God cursed sodomites. I'll never read Jack Hunter again. Is there never any GOOD news anymore???????????"

I share the commenter's pain. Yes, Jack Hunter has tossed secession, border security, and traditional marriage the same way Butch Cassidy would toss the loot when the posse started closing in. (Here's a summary of Jack's earlier statements, as well as his disavowal of them, as presented by the "conservative" Washington Free Beacon, which broke this story.)

Jack Hunter, like Ron and Rand Paul, tried to work within the system to restrain an interventionist, activist government. Now he's being scourged as a "racist" who shares his boss's "radical antiwar views." That's because only a "racist" would want to deny the Third World the joys of American liberation -- as DC's apologists have made abundantly clear.

Hunter's and the Paul's mistake was that they thought "compromise" and "moderation" were good things. Now, in a healthy political system, those things are virtues, as John Calhoun argued. But they have been fighting a losing battle against a system that is, as Robert E. Lee predicted, "aggressive abroad and despotic at home." That's why we have a massive domestic surveillance system supporting a military-industrial complex -- it's the inevitable result of an overgrown, centralized government.

As Michael Hill noted yesterday, DC is open only to those who adopt the regime's globalist agenda. With a regime based on demographic revolution and permanent war, no compromise is possible. Those policies are the foundation of the Empire's power. Trying to find common ground with the Evil Empire is like offering to sacrifice only your children to psychopaths who want to murder your entire family. So Jack Hunter and the Pauls have been saying, "Okay, you want to invade the entire Middle East, so I'll support a war in Afghanistan. And I'll vote for amnesty for 20 million illegal aliens if you'll agree to a border fence."

One way or another, it's all or nothing with the DC regime. That's what Jack Hunter and the Pauls -- and their supporters -- have failed to see.

‘Moron Monday’ Remarks Way Off Base

The state senator who coined the term "Moron Monday" for the leftist shenanigans at the North Carolina General Assembly now admits he was wrong to use those words:

With the latest revelations from the Raleigh-based Civitas Institute, I should have referred to the demonstrations as “Money Monday.” Researchers at Civitas have spent many weeks compiling flowcharts and tracing money flows not only to Reverend William Barber’s groups (receiving over $1 million a year from state coffers), but also to allied organizations that have raked in $100+ million from the North Carolina Treasury in the last few years.

Far from being a moron, William Barber is as “clever as a fox.” In his own words, Barber acknowledged that the Monday protests were not a “spontaneous action.” He admitted that the protests were built around the coalition he formed called “Historic Thousands on Jones Street.” The group’s name is printed on many of the signs the protesters carry.

The coalition consists of some two dozen affiliated, not-for-profit organizations including development centers, community foundations, credit unions and other assorted groups. Altogether, they have received more than $100 million in direct grants from the state in the last few years – when the Democrats were in charge.
Sounds like William Barber is as skilled at squeezing big bucks from leftist agitation as Morris Dees. He could be headed for the Civil Rights Industrial complex Hall of Fame.

President Barack Vissarionovich Obama makes pre-emptive strike against whistleblowers

If Nixon had done this, the progs would've screamed bloody murder. But Obama's ongoing effort to detect and root out "subversive" elements in government, chillingly named "Insider Threat Program," is barely stirring up notice among the progressive media. Instead, they've whipped themselves into a frenzy over Jack Hunter, who is apparently the greatest threat to freedom in the country's history.

Actually, what Obama is doing would've been too ambitious for Tricky Dick -- it's more like something Joseph Stalin would've done:

In an initiative aimed at rooting out future leakers and other security violators, President Barack Obama has ordered federal employees to report suspicious actions of their colleagues based on behavioral profiling techniques that are not scientifically proven to work, according to experts and government documents.

The techniques are a key pillar of the Insider Threat Program, an unprecedented government-wide crackdown under which millions of federal bureaucrats and contractors must watch out for “high-risk persons or behaviors” among co-workers. Those who fail to report them could face penalties, including criminal charges.
Yes, this is entirely unprecedented in the US. But it would've been old hat in the former USSR. And like that great effort to impose a universalist utopia, DC's agenda will increasingly require totalitarian methods to prop it up. Little by little, people will become too terrified to say or do anything that might brand them as a dissenter. The result will be uniform paralysis, and the whole thing will come crashing down.

One-in-five Americans are whistling Dixie on state secession

The word is out -- and no one can turn back the hands of time. Secession is increasingly seen as the only cure to the DC contagion:

A new Zobgy/Middlebury Institute poll reports that 22 percent of respondents believe that states have the right to peaceably secede from the United States. The figures go up considerably among liberals, Latinos, blacks, young people and Southern residents.

From the press release:

The level of support for the right of secession was consistent in every region in the country, though the percentage was slightly higher in the South (26%) and the East (24%). The figures were also consistent for every age group, but backing was strongest among younger adults, as 40% among those age 18 to 24 and 24% among those age 25 to 34 agreed states and regions have secession rights.
Why would anyone in his right mind want to dump DC and its endless wars, citizen surveillance, and massive debt?

Forensic Expert Says Evidence Backs George Zimmerman's Story

Al Sharpton ain't gonna like this:

Medical evidence supports George Zimmerman’s claims that he was beaten and on the bottom of a scrum with Trayvon Martin when Zimmerman fatally shot the Miami Gardens teen, a forensic-pathology expert testified Tuesday.

“This is consistent with Mr. Zimmerman’s account that Mr. Martin was over him, leaning forward at the time he was shot,” defense witness Dr. Vincent Di Maio said in Zimmerman’s second-degree murder trial.
This just goes to show that evidence is racist.

Burn those heretics!

Michael Hill weighs in on the lynch mob that's after Jack Hunter:

“As President of The League of the South, I’d like to thank Rand Paul, the GOP, Salon, and all the other cultural, social, economic, and political organs that are helping us separate the proverbial men from the boys. To wit, you are helping us destroy any “middle ground” to which the timid can retreat for safety. Soon, those like Mr. Hunter will learn that there’s no place in the GOP for Southerners who wish to remain . . . Southerners."
Every so often, the ruling elite is shocked to discover the existence of dissenters who do not embrace the globalist agenda. The news feed at memeorandum gives us a pretty good idea of just how alien -- not to mention evil -- our rulers really are. Michael Hill is right -- the middle ground is disappearing into an ideological sinkhole -- all that's left is total submission to a future of faceless, soulless, unrelated strangers with no shared history, culture, or bonds.

Either that, or we realize we cannot work within the imperial system. That leaves only one alternative.

In Secret, Court Vastly Broadens Powers of N.S.A.

Here's more information about their government that loyal Americans do NOT want to know. So the readers of Rebellion can't wait:

In more than a dozen classified rulings, the nation’s surveillance court has created a secret body of law giving the National Security Agency the power to amass vast collections of data on Americans while pursuing not only terrorism suspects, but also people possibly involved in nuclear proliferation, espionage and cyberattacks, officials say.

The rulings, some nearly 100 pages long, reveal that the court has taken on a much more expansive role by regularly assessing broad constitutional questions and establishing important judicial precedents, with almost no public scrutiny, according to current and former officials familiar with the court’s classified decisions.
Are you with the patriotic Americans, or with rebels such as ol' Ben?

This day in history

In 2011, South Sudan declares independence and becomes Africa's 54th state.

Quote of the day

"If you’re a conservative who is up in arms about NSA surveillance, you’ve been played for a chump by Greenwald, who has shrewdly exploited your anti-Obama sentiments for his own purposes." Robert Stacy McCain

Yes, Greenwald is an enemy of liberty, and the government agencies empowered to surveil and indefinitely detain its subjects are our protectors. Got it.

Ministry of Love condemns Orson Scott Card

Ender's Game is Orson Scott Card's best novel. A movie version is about to be released, but the enforcers of approved thought don't like it -- not for ANYTHING said or done in the movie or novel, but because Card is a firm supporter of traditional marriage:

Orson Scott Card has been an outspoken opponent of gay rights for several years. In 2009, he joined the board of directors at the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), which opposes same-sex marriage and was created to pass California's Proposition 8. His own personal views on the LGBT community were expressed in a Mormon Times piece that same year: "Marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down."

In that same op-ed piece, Card wrote that gay marriage "marks the end of democracy in America," that homosexuality was a "tragic genetic mix-up" and that "allowing courts to redefine marriage was a slippery slope towards total homosexual political rule and the classifying of anyone who disagreed as 'mentally ill.'"
The enforcers have therefore tried and convicted Orson Scott Card for his unforgivable thoughtcrime:

Geeks OUT has launched an online protest of the film due to author Orson Scott Card being an outspoken opponent of gay marriage. Called "Skip Ender's Game," the boycott urges potential audiences to steer clear of the film, which is based on Card's popular 1985 novel.

"Do NOT see this movie! Do not buy a ticket at the theater, do not purchase the DVD, do not watch it on-demand," Geeks OUT officials write. "Ignore all merchandise and toys. However much you may have admired his books, keep your money out of Orson Scott Card's pockets."
No thought that fails to meet the approval of these ruthless Inquisitors can be tolerated. That's how thoroughly totalitarian modern America has become: Any person who states an idea that violates approved thought will be denied permission to make ANY OTHER statements, no matter how innocuous.

Welcome to the United Stasi of America.

Did Abolitionist Hatred of the South Cause the Civil War?

Check out this interview with historian and novelist Thomas Fleming (not the editor of Chronicles). From the introductory comments:

Fleming’s new book A Disease in the Public Mind: A New Understanding of Why We Fought the Civil War , exposes how inflammatory Abolitionist rhetoric and propaganda were a major cause of the Civil War. Every other civilized nation outlawed slavery, despite economic and financial incentives, without killing a major part of its own population to do so.
Great insights on Woodrow Wilson, too. Enjoy!

The South vs. America’s Immigration Disaster

Had it been left up to the South, notes William L. Huston, the nation-busting 1965 Immigration Reform Act would never have been passed. In this VDare article, Huston then examines the regional voting patterns on immigration and concludes that the South is the last stronghold of traditional America.

And oh, yes, he makes the next logical step: that it is time for Southerners to once again "calculate the value of the Union" versus its cost. I'd bet that 99% of those who think about it will conclude it's time to reclaim both delegated and stolen rights from an out-of-control central government more concerned about its own power than the well-being of its subjects.

It's time to secede.

On the Sesquicentennial of Vicksburg and Gettysburg

The Imaginative Conservative has this great piece arguing that the Union victory of 1865 was really a counter-revolution against the principles of 1776:

Thomas Jefferson explained the Founders’ view of good government in his first inaugural address. Low taxes, economy in the public expense, the security of liberty and property, and a modest foreign policy were all essential elements of the Founders’ republican vision. The Civil War replaced that republican vision with a new nationalist vision. The War was used to justify our first income tax and first military draft. The War saw the creation of a national currency and an expansion of the jurisdiction of federal courts. Before the War, Americans understood that under our federal system the states served as checks on the authority of the national government. After Appomattox, the national government took on the role of a check on the authority of state governments. After ending slavery at home, the United States government gradually began to adopt a more aggressive foreign policy that aimed at expanding the sphere of liberty beyond our own borders. The new foreign policy, in turn, required ever greater expansions of federal power.
Oddly enough, the Lincoln Brigade at Civil War Memory and many other government supremacist echo chambers don't see it this way. They're sticking to the approved view of the WBTS as the triumph of American ideals that the Founders didn't realize they'd advocated and somehow overlooked, such as egalitarianism. (Wouldn't Jefferson have been astounded to learn he's been reinterpreted?)

In fact, the most radical points in the leftist agenda today are the direct result of the tragedy of 1865 and Reconstruction, from the homosexual movement to DC's demographic revolution. That's Lincoln's and Grant's actual legacy.

Lincoln’s Surveillance State

This op-ed from the New York Times reveals the source of today's National Security State:

In 1862, after President Abraham Lincoln appointed him secretary of war, Edwin M. Stanton penned a letter to the president requesting sweeping powers, which would include total control of the telegraph lines. By rerouting those lines through his office, Stanton would keep tabs on vast amounts of communication, journalistic, governmental and personal. On the back of Stanton’s letter Lincoln scribbled his approval: “The Secretary of War has my authority to exercise his discretion in the matter within mentioned.”

On the same day he received control of the telegraphs, Stanton put an assistant secretary in charge of two areas: press relations and the newly formed secret police. Stanton ultimately had dozens of newspapermen arrested on questionable charges. Within Stanton’s first month in office, a reporter for The New York Herald, who had insisted that he be given news ahead of other reporters, was arrested as a spy.
Today, our handlers in DC ignore the Bill of Rights for all sorts of noble reasons: National Security, Affirmative Action, and Civil Rights are the biggies. It's sad to realize that so many will submit to illegal acts as long as the right Worship Word is invoked to justify it.

And people say the government schools are failures. They're actually doing a great job of conditioning its victims to do what they're told and think what they're supposed to.

NSA recruitment drive goes horribly wrong

Those who preach total submission to the Evil Empire must be sweating these days, what with all the revelations about DC's illegal citizen surveillance. Over at Little Green Footballs, Charles Johnson sniffs that talk about the "evil empire" is nothing but "witless, empty hyperbole," but simple denial gets a little difficult in the wake of one embarrassing story after another about government spying.

I'm happy to say the heel-clickers are failing in their propaganda efforts. That's especially true with younger people. This exchange between students and NSA recruiters at the University of Wisconsin shows that skepticism toward the central government is healthy and growing:

Male student: "General Alexander [head of the NSA] also lied in front of Congress."

Recruiter 1: "I don't believe that he did."

Male student: "Probably because access to the Guardian is restricted on the Department of Defence's computers. I am sure they don't encourage people like you to actually think about these things. Thank God for a man like Edward Snowden who your organisation is now part of a manhunt trying to track down, trying to put him in a little hole somewhere for the rest of his life. Thank God they exist."
Touché! Yes, the kids are all right. Good to see the spirit of rebellion still burning.

The Radical Meaning of “Gay Marriage”

Here's an important essay on the leftist war on the family. That war is really a war against the rooted individual, the basic unit of organic, self-organizing society, against which leftist ideology cannot compete, and leftists know it:

Progressives had long recognized that the family was profoundly at odds with their project. The problem was what to do about something that was at once so recalcitrant and so deeply embedded in human nature. Communist regimes initially tried to do away with it, but failed because of their hurry and the crudity of their methods, and they soon gave up the effort. Liberal modernity has made much more progress, as it has in other aspects of life. Its strategy of radicalism by degrees has transformed religion more profoundly than communism ever did, cut our connection to the past more effectively, and is discovering how to control our thoughts and redefine our social relations under cover of what is thought to be freedom.
Instead of an institution dedicated to love and procreation, marriage is being reconstructed into a political arrangement based on the gratification of lust. The purpose is to wreck natural human relations, thereby creating an artificial need for an all-powerful central government as the foundation of order.

George W. Bush to push immigration reform

Of course he will. Both parties want the same thing: DC supremacy, with all the goodies Big Government hands out to politically connected Big Business. The only difference is the language they use to manipulate their supporters.

This story is just downright scary -- it's a perfect illustration of the government's growing contempt for its subjects and their property.

North Carolina city OKs curfew after 400-teen melee

Once again, the fact that some people can't be trusted is used to restrict the freedom of all:

The Greensboro, N.C., City Council approved an ordinance to reinstate a downtown curfew for teenagers Wednesday after a massive fight broke out last weekend that required local police to call other jurisdictions for support, MyFox8.com reported.

The measure was easily passed, in an 8-to-1 vote, during a special meeting that was called to address the issue.

The curfew goes into effect immediately, the report said. It bans anyone under the age of 17 from downtown Greensboro between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Those who are caught violating the ordinance could potentially be arrested.
I used to live in Greensboro. Back then, around 1990, it was a neat little city -- not too big, not crowded, with lots of charm and personality.

Already, we're seeing the federal government gutting the Bill of Rights because there are madmen who will use their freedom to commit violent acts. There's talk of outlawing guns because of the gun violence caused by a minority.

This is a precedent for future restrictions on liberty -- an ugly precedent.
