Aggressive Solicitors

They've found yet another way to make money from "white privilege." From WCNC:

Door-to-door salespeople are nothing new.

But police say a disturbing trend is starting to show up with what can only be described as aggressive solicitors.

“Someone knocked at the door,” said the woman, who asked to not be identified.

This 63-year-old south Charlotte woman couldn’t believe what happened next. It was far from a friendly sales pitch.

“He started screaming and yelling about me being an ‘F-ing’ racist white [expletive]," she said. “Just went off like a crazy person.”

She was targeted by what police are calling solicitation by intimidation. CMPD says there’s been an uptick in reports of salespeople going door-to-door acting aggressively.

I doubt I've ever given $1 to the local grocery store charity runs. And I never given money when called.

Best way to fight this sort of thing: Always say, "No."

And I've probably never bought a lotto ticket.

Best way to avoid these things: Set a rule to never do it.

I do give to homeless people though. And obviously I give to charities. Antiwar is running a charity drive right now.

Some of these goons have sales managers that love to intimidate by phone while the sales person is in the home. It's easy to do as the sales person asks if they may use your phone to call their boss and try to get you a better price.

I never forgot the story I read about Doc Holiday's father back when someone from the city hall in the town they lived in came to survey the Holiday property. His father went out to see what the man wanted and was informed that the town mayor had sent him to survey the Holiday property. Never raising his voice, Mr. Holiday quietly told the would-be surveyor, in regard to the mayor "I believe that old rascal wants to get you shot." The surveyor didn't stay around long enough to do much surveying. There might be a lesson in that story for dealing with unwanted salesmen.

I just made a $200 donation to my local municipality coffers in the form of a speeding ticket. All though I normally sympathize with our boys in blue, I still perceive them to be "Armed and dangerous revenuers". (We just received a more ambitious mayor.)
