Amid Puerto Rico’s Fiscal Ruins, a New Push for Statehood

This little "prize" the then-young DC Empire stole from Spain in 1898 has mutated into an economic millstone. It's bankrupt, with $123 billion in debt and pension obligations. And we're already propping up this money pit. The Social Security Administation reports that nine of the top 10 zip codes for workers receiving disability benefits are in Puerto Rico. So there's only one thing for Puerto Ricans to do - let US taxpayers bail them out as a member of the DC Empire! Yes, Puerto Rican statehood will solve all their problems - by letting US taxpayers shovel even more money to them. Of course, they'll peddle this sham behind flowery language about "the American dream" and similar pretty lies. They already have a quote from Abe Lincoln, the Great Consolidator, on their capitol.

Bastiat was right: "The State is the great fiction through which everyone endeavours to live at the expense of everyone else." So why shouldn't Puerto Rico have a full place at the trough? We're edging closer to $14 trillion in debt. What's a few trillion more?

Like California, but with NO economy. Just what the Empire needs to drag it further down. Therefore, I'm all for it.

By no means am I an authority on Puerto Rico, but my common sense say's "LOOK AT CUBA?"

They now own South Florida?........You can't even go below Orlando and not speak Spainish?...As Tom Tancredo once said while being chastised, "IT IS A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY"!

He was right..............Why addopt these third world pieces of sh$t?........Why?....Why?

The average American Citizen has way more on their mind than these little islands that wish to get into the Federal Feed Trough?................Screw them!........We are not their keeper.

They should have kept Cuba. They let a strategically valuable asset go.

A Puerto Rican posted at another site claiming the US strangles Puerto Rico via trade restrictions.

With so many of these polities, our trade is either helping or destroying them. Usually we're helping others at our expense.

We should have full free trade with Puerto Rico I'd say. Better they stay there than come here. Instead we've kept it as a sort of military recruitment island.

Give them statehood, as a new sovereign state. Jamaica is doing all right as a state.

They don't have to join America. We're not the European Union desiring to consume new states.
