Help stop the lynching!

Yoo-hoo! Calling all who struggle for racial justice, multiculturalism, and showing off your moral superiority. This is your call to action:

Taking to the podium at the end of a bizarre, shambolic press conference in which Governor Rod Blagojevich sought to appoint Roland Burris to the US Senate, Congressman Bobby Rush dared white Democratic senators to block a black man from joining their ranks.

He urged people "to not hang or lynch the appointee as you try to castigate the appointer" and, after saying repeatedly that Burris would be the only African-American in the Senate, said that he believed no senator would want "to go on record to deny one African-American from being seated in the US Senate".

Rush is a former Black Panther who trounced Barack Obama in the 2000 Democratic primary when the then state senator challenged him for his House of Representatives seat.

It couldn't be more clear -- if you oppose Blago's choice for the US Senate, then you're a racist who wants to lynch helpless black people.

You know, the utter madness of political correctness is paralyzing this country faster than even I thought possible.

Rooting for the overdog

According to the Israel-First, pro-war, any-war crowd, if you so much as question the Israeli Army's use of American WMDs against the civilians in Gaza, you're a goose-stepping Nazi who wants to exterminate all Jews. And the only moral, rational choice for the Israelis is to kill all Palestinians. Think I'm exaggerating? See for yourself.

Let's not forget that all this is taking place in occupied Gaza, which is Egyptian territory illegally seized by Israel in the Six-Day War. UN demands that Israel return the captured territory are effectively blocked by the DC empire. So much for the myth of DC's support for the "integrity" of UN resolutions.

This mindless support for a DC crony and blind malevolence against any who resist American hegemony can only be described as sado-patriotism. How else to describe rants like this:

There are the usual photos of fat Muslim ladies with their mouths wide open in faux horror as they pose for the news cameras, and dusty wreckage of some Palestinian shithole recently renovated by Israeli ordnance. There are never any pictures of dead Israelis, or Palestinian rockets, or mutilated bodies of kidnapped and murdered Israelis. Even Fox News contributes to this gross imbalance in news coverage.

That's because even Fox can't sanitize this lopsided slaughter. But the rant gets better. See if you've ever encountered an expression of such malignant delight in the suffering and death of innocents as this:

As for you, Palestinians, who rejoiced when your fellow barbarians murdered 3,000 Americans in 2001, I rejoice in the righteous destruction and long overdue payback for your evil, your barbarian savagery, your murderous and false religion. You have earned every bomb and every bullet, and since we don't practice Islamic finance, there will be a great deal of interest due with every payment. Enjoy.

And check out this comment from the site linked above justifying the slaughter of innocent civilians as an extension of DC's first war of liberation:

But as the Gazeans (term?) haven't stood up to Hamas, neither did the Southern non-slave owners stand up for the rights of blacks. They did not "deserve" the ravages of the Federal Army, but neither were they completely innocent, either.

That's what empire-worship comes down to -- the glorification of power, and the sniggering delight of unleashing that power against the sub-humans who resist it. This was made clear in a thread Free Republic published in the early days of W the Great's conquest of Iraq:

crazyhorse691 ~ ""My children are terrified every time they see an American now.""

Redbob ~ Now, if only we could duplicate this result throughout the arab world...
Or as Bluelancer so eloquently put it:

200 years from now, I want their children's children's children to cower and cringe in fear whenever they hear the sounds of jet engines overhead because their legends tell of fire from the sky.

I want them to hide in dark caves and holes in the earth, shivering with terror whenever they hear the roar of diesel engines because the tales of their ancestors talk about metal monsters crawling over the earth, spitting death and destruction.
I want their mothers to be able to admonish them with "If you don't behave, the Pale Destroyers will come for you", and that will be enough to reduce them to quivering obesience.

I want the annihilation to be so complete that their mythology will tell them of the day of judgment when the stern gods from across the sea .. the powerful 'Mericans .. destroyed their forefathers' wickedness.

Feel the pride.

War College paper considers domestic military deployment

This is the inevitable result of open borders, militarism, and egalitarian economic policies:

Deepening economic strife in the US could lead to civil unrest and violence that would require military intervention, warns a new report from the US Army War College. ...

The author warns potential causes for such civil unrest could include another terrorist attack, "unforeseen economic collapse, loss of functioning political and legal order, purposeful domestic resistance or insurgency, pervasive public health emergencies, and catastrophic natural and human disasters." The situation could deteriorate to the point where military intervention was required, he argues.

Uncle Sam is just itching to rescue you. Feel safer?

London and Obama administration to regulate websites

Looks like Oceania -- that is, the DC Empire and Airstrip One -- plan to coordinate their efforts to control thought and expand their shared globalist goals:

Andy Burnham told Britain's The Daily Telegraph newspaper the government was planning to negotiate with the administration of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama to draw up new international rules for English language websites.

"The more we seek international solutions to this stuff - the UK and the U.S. working together - the more that an international norm will set an industry norm," the newspaper reports the Culture Secretary as saying. ...

Internet service providers could also be forced to offer services where the only sites accessible are those deemed suitable for children, the paper said.

Chew on that last sentence for a bit. That's censorship any way you look at it. And that's where we're headed. The Internet is today's samizdat, the only means by which dissenters can voice their opinions. The unmistakable collapse of both Big Media and Big Government before our eyes may be gratifying, but it's also what's behind their increasingly desperate measures to hold on to their former power, such as denying habeas corpus and conducting warrantless searches. Until our victory over the forces of crony capitalism and authoritarianism is complete, we have to be careful. There's nothing more dangerous than a wounded beast.

Blagojevich Will Be Out of Office by Lincoln's 200th Birthday

Ok, this is getting a little creepy:

Illinois Lt. Gov Pat Quinn says on CBS' 'Face the Nation' that Gov. Rod Blagojevich will be impeached and forced to leave office by Abraham Lincoln's bicentennial birthday celebration on Feb. 12.

Obama launches his presidential campaign from Springfield. The press is dazzled by this diamond in the not-so-rough, puts on its collective loupe, and detects many more parallels between the two. Lincoln's birthday will coincide with Obama's coronation inauguration. And Obama plans to take his oath of office using Lincoln's Bible. Whoa.

Makes you wonder what other parallels we'll see between these two presidents, hmmm?

Thousands demand separate region for Iraq's Basra

The centrifugal forces in Iraq appear to be gathering momentum:

Some three thousand people took to the streets in mainly Shi'ite Basra, demanding a referendum on whether the city and surrounding province might become a semi-autonomous state.

"Yes, yes for the Basra region," demonstrators shouted.

Ahmed Ali, a 27-year-old civil servant, said Basra wanted to "cut the cord with the central government, which has brought us only trouble, poverty and unemployment".

Hmmm -- sounds like what DC has brought us. But then, that's about all oversized, authoritarian regimes are capable of.

Anti-illegal immigration activists condemned for spreading "ethnic hatred"

Angered by the ongoing invasion of their nation, and the threat to their traditional culture, "nativist" trouble-makers resort to "separatism" -- what the nativists call "self-determination." For their opposition to government-sponsored colonization by an alien and aggressive culture, the police have detained many of these nativist agitators.

Texas? Alabama? North Carolina? No, this government crackdown took place in Tibet, where Han Chinese are colonizing traditional Tibetan homelands:

The police have detained 59 people in Tibet on charges that they sought to foment unrest by spreading ethnic hatred and by downloading and selling banned songs from the Internet, Chinese state media reported Thursday. ...

Although news reports did not say whether the detainees were formally arrested and charged, they are accused of threatening national security by advocating for an independent Tibet and by expressing disdain for the ethnic Han migrants who now dominate commerce in Lhasa and other Tibetan cities.

Interesting how reading the Communist Chinese version of events in Tibet sounds just like the Open Borders crowd here in the US. The echoes of SPLC ideology are clear and chilling.

Christmas in Dixie

This is the time of year we celebrate family and faith. While remembering and reconnecting with tradition and kin, it's only natural to think back to the Christmases of childhood.

Growing up, my life revolved around my grandparent's tobacco farm. Their four children all lived on the edges of their 60-acre farm, and much of our social and recreational time was spent on that land. Christmas Eve meant celebrating at my grandparents' house with my three uncles and their families. My mother and her three brothers would sing carols, and we'd exchange presents, feast, and talk until midnight. With 12 cousins packed in the house, you can just imagine the hullabaloo. It was a joyous time.

That house now belongs to a stranger, and my grandparents and two of my uncles are gone. My mother's family no longer gets together for Christmas. But what life takes away, it adds other things. Our daughter is coming up from Charleston tonight, and tomorrow we'll visit my wife's family on the small vineyard where my brother-in-law lives in the Yadkin Valley. Then we'll go to my parents' house, where we'll wake up early Christmas morning to greet what promises to be a cold but bright day. And we'll do Christmas in Dixie one more time.

Fort Dix five guilty of conspiracy to kill soldiers

This news release backs up our earlier post illustrating how diversity promotes "different ways of thinking and doing":

Five Muslim immigrants from South Jersey were convicted today of plotting to kill American soldiers, a crime that prosecutors said demonstrated how Al Qaeda was using the Internet to recruit, train and incite supporters for attacks in the United States and around the world.

See? Traditional American demographic groups wouldn't have thought of this. It took Moslem immigrants to conceive the idea of trying to blow up American soldiers.

Take that, Diversity Deniers!

Obama's office clears Rahm Emanuel

"Nothing to see here, folks!" Lt. Frank Drebbin, Naked Gun

The Office of the Savior-Elect has done a thorough investigation, and finds its Chief of Staff is as pure as the driven snow in the Blago affair:

The president-elect's office says it will release on Monday the promised report giving a full accounting of those contacts, and Obama aides say the official under the most scrutiny -- Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel -- will be exonerated after weeks of innuendo that they have long said was unfair.

That settles that!

'Question 46,' Revisited

Civilian disarmament is integral to any military occupation, as William Grigg reminds us. And as DC desperately tries to hold on to power, it's expanding its use of the military at home. This is a trend we've reported on before, and don't like where it's headed.

Go forth and spread Magic Diversity Dust

I caught a radio ad promoting Diversity the other day on the Dennis Miller show. Here's a partial transcript:

Obviously White young girl: "Gee, you work with lots of people who don't look like you at all!"

White mother: "What do you mean?"

Girl: "Well, there are Asian people, African-American people, Latino people--"

Mother: "We all work together as a team."

Girl: "Aren't they different from you?"

Mother: "In a way, yes. But those differences are good. They mean different ways of seeing things, different ways of thinking things, different ways of doing things."

Girl: "But if those differences are so good where you work, why does everyone where we're living look just like us?"

Wise Announcer: "Diversity shouldn't be left behind at work each day. Prepare your children for the coming global life that lies ahead. Your family doesn't live in a 9-to-5 world. Why should Diversity?"

The ad is sponsored by the National Fair Housing Alliance, which proudly proclaims that it is "dedicated to the creation and sustenance of diverse communities throughout the nation." We can be assured their vision for us is good, because its members include such enlightened entities as Wachovia, Freddie Mac, and Fannie Mae, which, now that I think about it, are some of the chief proponents of the diversity-at-any-cost policies that gave us the ongoing Diversity Recession.

But I quibble. Let's take the ad's message at face value. The first thing it's telling us is that thinking, seeing, and behaving are determined by race -- an idea that I thought was considered eeeevil. Guess I'm behind the times.

And if that assumption is true, then the radio ad raises a question: Since Magic happens when people of different races work together, why aren't all the Nobel prizes swept up every year by people in racially diverse areas, such as Brazil and south Los Angeles? And here's an interesting implication: If a homogeneous community is fatally hobbled by its dull uniformity, shouldn't measures be taken to prevent people from intermarrying and creating a homogenous community of mestizos? Clearly, the government should criminalize marriage among different races -- how else can we continue to enjoy the mysterious creativity that emerges when the different ways of thinking, seeing, and doing things bump into one another, making those stimulating sparks when people of different races interact?

Of course, I'm not advocating those things, I'm just thinking about the logical implications of the National Fair Housing Alliance radio ad. And you're not supposed to think when you hear ads promoting Diversity.

Chicago Police Seize Portrait That Blacks Deem Offensive

Hear that? It's the sound of the First Amendment being nullified in the name of Civil Rights. A Chicago alderman (translation: gauleiter) took offense at a picture of Mayor Harold Washington depicted in "frilly lingerie." So, accompanied by the police, he removes it from public view. Later, he declared that if the courts had it replaced, he'd defy the law. So what happens? Was this blatant violation of free speech punished? No -- instead, the school buckled, and knelt in submission as it begged forgiveness for failing to respect a black icon:

But late today, after a four-hour meeting with black aldermen and Mayor Eugene Sawyer, officials of the school and the Art Institute said they not only would issue a public apology for exhibiting the painting of the former Mayor, but also promised to do more to increase the number of students and employees who are members of minority groups, as well as the number of blacks on the board of the institute.

Earlier in the day officials of the art school, an adjunct of the prestigious Art Institute of Chicago, promised that they would not put the painting on exhibiton again. They said the police warned them that its exhibition could "incite a riot."

Chew on that last sentence -- the police warned the victims of government oppression that if they displayed the banned picture, THE VICTIMS would be responsible for whatever violence committed by thugs.

Welcome to multicult America.

Afghanistan: Soviet failures echo for US

The blood and money pit in Afghanistan just keeps absorbing all we can dump in:

Recent headlines from Afghanistan have read like a history lesson from the Soviet 1980s.

That war "devolved into a fight for control of … the road network," concludes a 1995 US Army study. Militants are now stepping up attacks against American supply routes, destroying some 200 trucks in Pakistan this month.

Anti-Soviet militants controlled "the rural areas," says a former Soviet official. Today's militants have a "permanent presence" in 72 percent of the country, according to a Dec. 8 study.

There are differences between then and now. Yet 20 years later, many problems are similar: The US and NATO control neither the countryside nor the militants' hideouts in Pakistan, and as civilian casualties increase, Afghan anger is mounting.

"History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce." Karl Marx

The economic Civil War

More confirmation, unfriendly though it may be, that the age-old and ongoing conflict between North and South is economic:

If the major U.S. automobile companies go under, it will be partly because timely federal aid for them was blocked by members of Congress like Tennessee Senator Bob Corker, whose states have created their own counter-Detroit in the form of Japanese, Korean, and German transplant factories. The South will have risen by bringing down the North. Jefferson Davis will have had his revenge.

Lind's solution to the South actually looking after its own interests instead of the North's? Simple: "It's time for a Third Reconstruction to put an end to it."

At least he's more blunt about it than most politicians.

Obama's inaugural choice sparks outrage

Here's the feint:

Prominent liberal groups and gay rights proponents criticized President-elect Barack Obama Wednesday for choosing evangelical pastor Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at the presidential inauguration next month.

... the founder of the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, has also adhered to socially conservative stances -- including his opposition to gay marriage and abortion rights that puts him at odds with many in the Democratic Party, especially the party's most liberal wing.

Look out! Here comes the reverse:

Some top retired military leaders and some Democrats in Congress are backing William White, chief operating officer of the Intrepid Museum Foundation, to be the next secretary of the Navy - a move that would put the first openly gay person at the top of one of the services.

Here's the analysis:

"...[T]hey must at least retain the semblance of the old forms; so that it may seem to the people that there has been no change in the institutions, even though in fact they are entirely different from the old ones. For the great majority of mankind are satisfied with appearances, as though they were realities, and are often even more influenced by the things that seem than by those that are.... [The conqueror should] not wish that the people... should have occasion to regret the loss of any of their old customs...." Niccolo Machiavelli, “The Prince and the Discourses” (New York: Random House, 1950), pages 18, 182-183

And here's the color commentary:

Obama is not only a left-winger, but a smart left-winger. I strongly advise folks to read Saul Alinsky, the leftist agitator who transformed Gramscian infiltration from a theory into a political weapon of deadly effectiveness. Obama imbibed Alinsky's strategy and tactics when he worked under Mike Kruglik at the Developing Communities Project (DCP) of the Calumet Community Religious Conference (CCRC) in Chicago.

Alinsky's thrust was that effective radical agitation required creating the illusion of working and governing from the center, and keeping communication open with the opposition. He once wrote that outright defeat of your opposition is not necessary to achieve your objectives. Sometimes it's better just to convince them you're a nice guy who respects and admires leaders of the opposition despite their views. Get them to buy that, and they'll be butter in your hands.

What NOT to do when you hear a burglar

Don't reach for your phone. Reach for your gun.

Illegal Immigration costs Texas $3.5 billion a year

“The Health and Human Services Commission estimated this month that Texas spent $81.2 million in fiscal year 2007 on free health care for illegal aliens, mostly through the children’s Medicaid program. Additionally, the HHSC report said, Texas county hospital districts spent an estimated $596.8 million in 2006 on mandated, uncompensated health care for illegal immigrants.” ~ Dallas Blog

Other states seem to be suffering similar expenditures. From an economic perspective, much legal and illegal Third World immigration is tax-payer subsidized cheap labor for big business.

"Obama is so rare"

The deification of the Commander-in-Chief, which reached sickening heights in the months after W the Great's conquest of Iraq, reaches an even stickier level of gooiness as the Age of Obama dawns:

Many spiritually advanced people I know (not coweringly religious, mind you, but deeply spiritual) identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment. These kinds of people actually help us evolve. They are philosophers and peacemakers of a very high order, and they speak not just to reason or emotion, but to the soul.

The unusual thing is, true Lightworkers almost never appear on such a brutal, spiritually demeaning stage as national politics. This is why Obama is so rare. And this why he is so often compared to Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., to those leaders in our culture whose stirring vibrations still resonate throughout our short history.

And yes, war supporters, you nurtured the cult of the presidency during W's heyday, so you can't entirely blame the lefties for this. Lord, give me strength.

Politician planning to relaunch Staten Island secession fight

Meanwhile, the winds of localism continue to gain strength around the world and at home -- and for good reason:

State Sen. Andrew Lanza (R-Staten Island) next month will introduce legislation to separate the Island from the other four boroughs and make it into the second-largest city in New York State.

"It's something I really believe in," said Lanza, who is putting the finishing touches on the 2,115-page bill, which he said would likely be the most voluminous piece of legislation submitted next year aside from the state budget. "I always thought [secession] was a good idea." ...

"Staten Island's voice is diminished in this big, bureaucratic system that we pay a lot of the bill for," he said. "No one can deny that we have been short-changed for decades."

But why would anyone want to secede from a fun place like New York City? Oh, yeah:

The escalating financial crisis is starting to hit close to home, prompting consideration of a number of potentially painful budget cuts in New York City - with schools, libraries, and firefighters on the chopping block.

"We have no money," Mayor Bloomberg said last week.

"This is going to be decided by the fiscal realities of us taking a look at all the alternatives as the economy develops," said Bloomberg.

As Leviathan continues to collapse, expect to see more secessionist activity. Clearly, the overgrown, over-centralized DC regime has reached a crisis point where it can no longer keep itself together as a single system. Organization scientists would conclude that the financial, military, and immigration crises prove DC has reached a critical bifurcation point, and must reconfigure itself to save the component parts.

Time to man the lifeboats.

Latin America summit excludes U.S.

Hey, no fair! We're a Latin American country, too! Well, almost -- just give us a little time ...

Anyway, this is just another sign of sinking US power in its own hemisphere:

Latin American leaders on Tuesday blamed the global economic crisis on rich countries and welcomed Communist-run Cuba at a summit meeting designed to weaken U.S. influence in the region.

Sometimes racial discrimination is a good thing ...

... it just depends on who's doing it:

There could be another clash in the offing about who should be able to join the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC).

Cao, the first Vietnamese-American elected to Congress, told his hometown paper, the Times-Picayune of New Orleans, that he’s interested in joining the CBC. He also said he’s seeking a seat on the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Appropriations Committee.

And though Cao is a minority from a minority district (his district is 64 percent African-American, and 3 percent Asian), the CBC has never admitted a non-black member.

It's true. Even a super-liberal was excluded solely on his race:

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) learned that after he was elected to succeed Rep. Harold Ford Jr. (D) in a majority-black district in 2006. Cohen talked about trying to join the caucus but backed off when leaders made it clear he wouldn’t be allowed to join.

This powerful caucus discriminated against a Jew, and they're about to discriminate against an Asian -- just because -- they're different. Right here in America. And obviously, no one's going to condemn their actions, because, well -- that's just the way it is. Cue Bruce Hornsby:

They say hey, little boy, you can't go where the others go,
'Cause you don't look like they do.
Said, hey, old man how can you stand to think that way,
Did you really think about it before you made the rules?
He said, Son,

That's just the way it is.
Some things will never change.

$700 Billion Bailout Celebrated With Lavish $800 Billion Executive Party

Yes, this is satire, but just barely:

Amid the bleak backdrop of imminent economic collapse, worried observers got some good news last October when executives from the nation's top 10 failing companies celebrated the historic $700 billion government bailout with an ultra- extravagant $800 billion party aimed at restoring confidence and bolstering their resolve.

"It's never ideal for private corporations to rely on public funding, but we would not have been able to survive another week without letting loose and throwing this massive bash," Merrill Lynch CEO John Thain said aboard his newly purchased $22 million yacht, the Excelsior. "We can only hope it's not a case of too little too late."

You're Confederate ... But Don't Know It?

A classic from Charley Reese:

Many people today even argue the Confederate positions without realizing it.

For example, if you argue for strict construction of the Constitution, you are arguing the Confederate position; when you oppose pork-barrel spending, you are arguing the Confederate position; and when you oppose protective tariffs, you are arguing the Confederate position. But that's not all.

When you argue for the Bill of Rights, you are arguing the Confederate position, and when you argue that the Constitution limits the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, you are arguing the Confederate position.

Should racial extremists have to register like sex offenders do?

Here's a great idea -- give the totally objective, morally pure folks at the Southern Poverty Law Center control over where people get to live! This blogger thinks the country needs "a national registry for ALL hate activity" whether "religious, governmental, or racial" so Americans can avoid having "the wrong kind of people move into our quiet little neighborhoods."

So what constitutes hate? As we all know, the SPLC -- which the blogger wants to be in charge of the registry -- considers anyone who opposes open borders to be motivated by hate. And the charge of racism is becoming an effective way to shut up opposition to whatever the government wants. In early 2001, for example, anybody who opposed invading Iraq and exporting democracy by force would've qualified as a hater on the par with those who resisted the Civil Rights movement -- at least that's what Condi Rice said.

Political correctness, then, would become a requirement to buy a house. That raises another question -- would the SPLC or the government abuse such powers? After all, it was Leon Trotsky who wrote, "In a country where the sole employer is the State, opposition means death by slow starvation. The old principle: who does not work does not eat, has been replaced by a new one: who does not obey shall not eat." In a country where the government controls access to housing, who does not obey is homeless.

Discrimination against white males will soon be encouraged

No, this isn't a satirical piece -- it's a peek into the glorious multicult future, courtesy of Australia's Equal Opportunity Commission:

DISCRIMINATION against dominant white males will soon be encouraged in a bid to boost the status of women, the disabled and cultural and religious minorities.

Such positive discrimination -- treating people differently in order to obtain equality for marginalised groups - is set to be legalised under planned changes to the Equal Opportunity Act foreshadowed last week by state Attorney-General Rob Hulls.

The laws are also expected to protect the rights of people with criminal records to get a job ...

If we're going to have true equality, something like this will have to be done eventually to those pesky successful people. Theoretically, whether you raise the status of the lowly (damned difficult to do) or hammer down the successful (much easier, and much more fun), the result is the same. And it's already begun here at home.

No Southerners in Obama Cabinet

This tells you a lot about where the country's going:

Barack Obama is 15 picks into his Cabinet — he announced New Yorker Shaun Donovan as his Housing and Urban Development head on Saturday—but has yet to name one who hails from the South.

"Not a one," grumbles a one senior Democratic aide who hails from the South. "Not even half of one, unless you count Hillary Clinton, and she doesn't count because she's not even an Arkansan anymore. She's a Yankee."

Clearly, since Southerners have invested so heavily in the Republican party, there aren't that many Democrats available to fill the slots in a leftist administration. Still, as the piece points out, Obama will need believable spokesmen to sell his agenda. And people tend to believe one of their own.

Another illustration of the growing importance of Southern identity.

Homosexual Musicians From Bay Area To Play Inauguration Parade

Here's the latest news about the "End of America" celebration:

For the first time in American history, a gay and lesbian band will be marching in a presidential inauguration.

Barack Obama's Presidential Inaugural Committee has chosen the Lesbian and Gay Band Association, with members from across the country, to march in the inaugural parade in Washington on Jan. 20.

Views on Auto Aid Fall On North-South Divide

Old times subsidizing the North are NOT forgotten -- so why should Southern families have to sacrifice even more to prop up Northern-based unions? A lot of others throughout Dixie are asking the same question:

For some, the most galling aspect of the bailout is that federal money could go to union workers and retirees -- people, mostly in the North, who at least historically have enjoyed higher pay and better benefits than Southern autoworkers. ...

The bailout efforts for Detroit's Big Three are laying bare long-held resentments between union and nonunion workers, echoing North-South divisions as old as the Civil War.

Those Iraqi ingrates!

W the Great visited the land he delivered unto democritude, and all he got was a lousy shoe:

Just showing your shoe soles to someone is supposed to be a big insult in the Arab world, and hitting them with a shoe is even bigger. After all W's done to them -- I mean, for them. The report says the ingrate threw his shoes at the Liberator of Iraq and yelled, "It is the farewell kiss, you dog." I wonder if this might delay construction of the "grand square in Baghdad" that will be named after President Bush?

Is the future of the GOP Scots-Irish or Indian-American?

Here's a nice confirmation from The American Conservative that the League of the South has focused on an up-and-coming political trend, namely, the new political significance of culture and heritage:

Not since 1968 or 1972—possibly not since 1928—had a presidential campaign delved so deeply into the composition of the white middle class. Before the 2008 election, the term “Scots-Irish” was bandied about primarily by demographers and League of the South members. But Kevin Phillips, whose 1969 book The Emerging Republican Majority taught the party to build a winning coalition of Sunbelt whites and urban Catholics, has had his eye on this group for years. His 1999 book, The Cousins’ Wars, described the settlement patterns of Scots-Irish emigrating to the U.S. from Ulster. The course of their migration neatly tracks the map of states and counties that McCain hoped to win.

You can enter "Scots-Irish" above and search this blog for numerous postings we've done on this emerging trend. And of course the real significance is something we've touched on frequently. As we wrote this past July:

As the United States is occupied by Third Worlders with no allegiance to this country, people will no longer see themselves as "Americans," already a meaningless term which can literally apply to anyone on the globe who shoves his way in. The human need to belong to something real will be answered -- and ethnicity is always there.

Legal racial discrimination

More evidence that the America we once knew is long gone:

Frank Ricci, a firefighter in New Haven, Conn., worked hard, played by the rules, and earned a promotion to fire lieutenant. But the city denied him the promotion because he is not black. ... Ricci studied for eight to 13 hours a day to prepare for the combined written and oral exam in 2003 that he hoped would win him a promotion. He spent more than $1,000 buying the books that the city had suggested as homework and paying an acquaintance to read them onto audiotapes. (Ricci is dyslexic and learns better by listening.) And he got one of the highest scores.

But Ricci and other would-be lieutenants and captains with high scores did not get the promotions they expected. The reason was that -- because not enough black firefighters had done well enough to be eligible -- New Haven decided to discard the test results and make no promotions at all.

Ricci sued, but a US District Court dismissed his case, and a U.S. Court of Appeals affirmed the dismissal. Their thinking is startling:

Simply because a much higher percentage of the whites than of the blacks who took the exams had passed, the majority said (adopting Judge Arterton's opinion), the city could be "faced with a prima facie case of disparate impact liability under Title VII."

And yet the multicults yap endlessly about how "diversity and excellence are compatible." Tell it to Frank Ricci.

Beware the New Globalism

Libertarian Justin Raimondo is just the latest to recognize the real threat to peace and freedom is globalism, the ideology that demands the forced destruction of all natural loyalties and their replacement with a powerful central government that oversees the creation of a one-world culture and political unit.

The forces of freedom, says Raimondo, depend on the "local particularities"; that is, the spontaneous, self-organizing units seeking self-determination:

Nationalism is often mistaken for militarism and utilized in the name of centralizing political authority, but the real nations, as opposed to the territories marked out on official maps, are the ethnic, religious, and geographical allegiances that form natural bonds between people. The emerging world state is naturally hostile to these. It prefers to deal with a homogenized mass culture and does everything to discourage – and, if necessary, suppress – all regionalism.

Pretty grim stuff. But the subtitle of Raimondo's article is "All hail the coming regionalist revolt," and he notes with hope how that revolt is already taking shape:

The frontiers of freedom, in this globalist future, will be pioneered by the new regionalists, the secessionists, the campaigners for Cascadia, the republic of Vermont, and the right of Trans-Dniester to go its own way. Gigantism is a conceit, and a fatal one, as the rulers of the old Soviet empire learned and we are just beginning to fathom.

The ongoing -- and escalating -- economic meltdown is but one symptom of over-sized, over-centralized government. As the battle lines clarify themselves between the forces of a homogenized mass culture and organic culture; that is, between force and freedom, we will all have to confront the central question of our age: Whose side are you on?

Federal deficit on pace to reach record $1T

Do DC's record-smashing deficits worry you? They should, and here's why:

Over the years, Martin Hennecke has gained the respect of the folks at CNBC for his track record in the financial prediction department, which, while not perfect, is better than that of most. ...

As the cost of borrowing skyrockets, Hennecke explained to me in a recent radio interview, hyperinflation will sink in. When that happens, Americans used to driving a new car every two years and mortgages on demand won't recognize the new country they live in.

There is only one hope to stop the coming economic slowdown, Hennecke says. The country must radically reduce spending in all government sectors, including pulling its troops home.

Instead, American is choosing to go in the opposite direction, with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson throwing billions of borrowed federal dollars at healthy banks to achieve goals that are unclear at best. In a 60 Minutes interview last week, President-elect Barack Obama said that Americans need not worry about more deficit spending "next year or even the year after," while we attempt to fix our fiscal crisis.

Here's the bottom line to our imperiled bottom line: DC's imperial policies seek to impose global democratic revolution at home and abroad. At home, in the name of boosting minority home ownership, the government pushes the financial industry to make questionable loans, giving us what Steve Sailer dubs the "Diversity Depression." Abroad, in the name of exporting the Civil Rights Revolution, DC seeks to reconstruct the Middle East into an Israel- and US-friendly region by force. Problem is, that force comes with a ruinous price tag, one which, as Martin Hennecke observes above, we can no longer pretend to afford. We never could afford it, but now the facade has been ripped away by reality. And yet, the power-mad politicians in DC borrow billions to prop up unsuccessful financial firms at home, and unwinnable wars in the Middle East.

The unnatural concentration of power and treasure in DC is the problem, not the solution.

Don't alligators live in the South?

This kind of thing shouldn't surprise us:

A 51-year-old woman yelling "Go Gators" during Florida's victory over Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game had a gun pointed at her by a convicted felon who entered her apartment after he misunderstood the cheering for racial slurs, Orange County sheriff's deputies said.

Of course he was right to break into this woman's home and draw a gun on her. The new legal standard of the Glorious Age of Multiculturalism says the perception of racism, no matter how disconnected from reality it may be, now constitutes a prima facie case against the perpetrator.

The verdict is in -- Barack Hussein Obama is America's second black president.

Long-time enemy of Southern heritage in hot water

Am I indulging in a little Jessefreude as I watch Jesse Jackson, Jr. sweating in front of the news cameras, denying he's a crook? No -- I'm positively wallowing in it. This just gets better day by day:

ABC News quoted federal law enforcement sources saying the son of the civil rights leader is the candidate identified by the FBI as willing to spend up to $1 million to secure the Senate seat.

"Senate Candidate 5" is listed in the FBI complaint, which includes a compendium of wiretapped conversations involving Blagojevich and his allies, as being named by the governor as an option for Obama's Senate seat because he would pay or raise money to Blagojevich's re-election campaign.

According to the affidavit, in a Dec. 4 recording of Blagojevich with an unnamed adviser and unnamed fundraiser, the governor says he may be able to cut a deal with Senate Candidate 5 that provides Blagojevich with something "tangible up front."

If Blagojevich ran for re-election, Senate Candidate 5 would "raise money" for the campaign, the affidavit alleges.

"Blagojevich said he might 'get some (money) up front, maybe' from Senate Candidate 5 to insure Senate Candidate 5 kept his promise about raising money for Rod Blagojevich. (In a recorded conversation on October 31, 2008, Rod Blagojevich described an earlier approach by an associate of Senate Candidate Five as follows: 'We were approached "pay to play." That, you know, he'd raise me 500 grand. An emissary came. Then the other guy would raise a million, if I made him (Senate Candidate 5) a senator,'" the affidavit reads.

While it's good to see any lefty politician get his comeuppance, we in the South are particularly gratified to see the Blago "Pay-to-play" scandal unfolding the way it is, with more surprise treats than the dessert table at a family reunion. Jesse Jackson, Jr, you'll recall, is one of the few politicians who's openly anti-Southern. If you go to a Civil War battlefield these days, you will no longer see the story of the brave soldiers who fought and died. Instead, the National Park Service presents the battle in the simplistic terms of the forces of freedom and enlightenment versus the eeeevil forces of slavery. We can thank Jesse Jackson, Jr,. (the son of the esteemed Reverend Jesse Jackson) for that. Jesse Jackson Jr. represents the Chicago area in Congress, and he introduced the legislation that makes all Civil War battlefield parks reinterpret what they tell visitors. Here' a selection from Jesse Jackson Jr’s remarks to employees of the National Park Service, in which he explains his reasons behind the legislation:

“I learned very early on that politics in Congress has a lot less to do with Democrats and Republicans, left or right, liberal or conservative, and a lot more to do with North and South.

I listened very carefully to the rhetoric, not only of Democrats but also of Republicans. And I wanted to know more about the underlying currents of this North-South political dynamic. I went on three different tours of Civil War sites in the eastern theater.

As I sought and probed answers to very difficult questions from some members of the National Park Service, many of those who did not know I was a member of Congress, informed me that in order to change their opinion about what they saw and did, it would take nothing less than an act of Congress.

So, less than one session later, I have given those folks their act of Congress. Now let me try to tell you my perspective once again. This time with the force of the law. Racism or states rights, that is, states rights as a cover for racism, is a major reason prohibiting us from building a more perfect union. Whatever you feel about Democrats, Republicans, liberals, conservatives, moderates on economic issues, or liberals and conservatives on social issues, no period in history is greater in defining who we see ourselves as today as the Civil War. So, into the interior bill, I introduced language to put the battles in a particular context.

I believe in the year 2000 that it is clear that the crisis will be resolved only when every American is: provided with economic security--employment, health care, education, and housing. Not long ago I proposed an amendment to the Constitution of the United States granting every American the right to an education of equal high quality.

I am arguing for more social programs; my colleagues are arguing for more tax breaks. All are part of the dynamic that this event--the Civil War--created for contemporary American politics. As Garry Wills has suggested in his marvelous book on the Gettysburg Address, the interpretation of Gettysburg battlefield has most to do with redefining the nation in the context of the Declaration of Independence rather than in the context of the Constitution.”

Congressman Jesse Jackson understands very well what Southern heritage is all about, and what it would mean to eliminate it. The Southern political tradition is opposed to big government. It is opposed to socialism. If you want socialism, if you want the government to act as an armed nursemaid for the entire population, and provide for them from cradle to grave, then Southern culture and tradition most certainly stand in your way. It's what Alexander Stephens once said, "The Cause of the South is the Cause of us all." And he was right. If leftists like Jackson and Obama have their way, Lincoln's Revolution will be brought to its natural conclusion, which Jesse Jackson tells us means the redefining of the Constitution, and the redefinition of America.

Which is why we fight.

The War on Decentralized Food

... which boils down to the war for control of our lives. From The Western Confucian:

Paul Mulshine reports that "a SWAT team with semi-automatic rifles entered the private home of the Stowers family in LaGrange, Ohio, herded the family onto the couches in the living room, and kept guns trained on parents, children, infants and toddlers, from approximately 11 AM to 8 PM"

The author notes "that the co-op in question caters to both right-wing Christian fundamentalists and left-wing college students," calling this "the sort of cooperation that can occur in a free country." He concludes, "Too bad we don't live in one."

Ouch. Well said.

Questions Arise About the Obama/Blagojevich Relationship

Oh, dear -- what happened to Blago's sunshine?

That's right -- it's peeping out over here at the Rebellion blog! During the election, we hoped with all our might that the far-left Obama would win, waking people up to the true nature of the socialistic, authoritarian Federal government. There was no doubt the slime of Chicago politics would follow Obama to the White House. But never in our wildest dreams did we imagine the fun would begin before he took office. And what fun! Gov. Blago's "Senate Seat Sell-a-thon" is raising all sorts of tantalizing issues -- like this one:

But there remain questions about how Blagojevich knew that Mr. Obama was not willing to give him anything in exchange for the Senate seat -- with whom was Blagojevich speaking? Did that person report the governor to the authorities?

And, it should be pointed out, Mr. Obama has a relationship with Mr. Blagojevich, having not only endorsed Blagojevich in 2002 and 2006, but having served as a top adviser to the Illinois governor in his first 2002 run for the state house.

That 2002 endorsement came at the same time that Axelrod had such serious concerns about whether Blagojevich was ready for governing he refused to work for his one-time client.

Oh, joy and rapture! And it's not even Christmas yet ...

No day for the flu!

No matter how rotten you feel tomorrow, don't call in sick. People will wonder ...

Cultural cancer

Vox Day says it's time to turn the tables on the multicultists who demand the West commit suicide:

Whenever anyone points out the undeniable fact that multiculturalism is a cancer slowly killing Western culture, it is customary for left liberals to angrily demand to know why that individual hates people from other cultures. But one need not hate anyone to prefer the continued existence of one's culture and society. A much more relevant question should be directed at the proponents of multiculturalism and immigration: Why do you hate Western society so much that you wish to see it destroyed?

Why Jesse Jackson wanted to castrate Obama

Kay Hymowitz offers the latest jottings of a liberal who cannot grasp why liberalism doesn't work. Why, oh why, are blacks, the recipients of white liberals' most compassionate attention, backsliding rather than progressing? It's a mystery -- at least, it's a mystery to those whose faith in government reconstruction of society is unshakeable. Hymowitz notes that as the Federal government acted to help blacks in the 1960s, black communities descended into chaos:

Strangely, black men were joining the labor force more, but they were marrying -- and fathering -- less.

There were other puzzling facts. In 1950, at the height of the Jim Crow era and despite the shattering legacy of slavery, the great majority of black children -- an estimated 85 percent -- were born to their two married parents. Just 15 years later, there seemed to be no obvious reason that that would change. With the passage of the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, legal barriers to equality were falling. The black middle class had grown substantially, and the first five years of the 1960s had produced 7 million new jobs. Yet 24 percent of black mothers were then bypassing marriage. [Patrick] Moynihan wrote later that he, like everyone else in the policy business, had assumed that "economic conditions determine social conditions." Now it seemed, "what everyone knew was evidently not so."

The author, like so many others, breezily assumes all black suffering can be blamed on "the shattering legacy of slavery." And fanning the flames of black resentment and white guilt is a recession-proof industry for the race hustlers. Any suggestion that blacks can improve their own lives without the tender mercies of a compassionate, ever-expanding Federal government threatens the whole racial spoils system. So when Obama told black journalists that blacks had to do a better job of raising their children, Jesse Jackson -- unaware a hot microphone sat next to him -- whispered to another panelist that Obama was talking down to blacks, and deserved -- well, you can read for yourself what Jesse wanted to do to him.

The simple truth is that dysfunction in black communities is aggravated by the very government programs supposedly aimed at helping them. The historical record shows that blacks were making significant economic, social, and political progress before the Civil Rights movement, and started backsliding after many Civil Rights projects were implemented.

For instance, we're told that the continuing breakdown of black families is the direct legacy of slavery, since enslaved families were routinely split up and sold. In fact, slave families were almost always kept together, and in 1870, only five years after slavery was abolished, 80 percent of black children lived in two-parent homes. The black illegitimacy rate hovered around 20 percent for decades; by 1950, it had dropped to 9 percent. In 1965, however, the federal government began offering poor mothers government checks if they could prove there was no working male at home. The result? By 1975, the black illegitimacy rate had skyrocketed to 70 percent.

Historical statistics on educational performance also cast doubt on slavery as a handicap. In 1940, American blacks enjoyed an 80 percent literacy rate -- better than some European countries. In 1985, after decades of busing, which destroyed black community schools, the Educational Testing Service evaluated the literacy skills of young adults age 21-25. Only 40 percent of the blacks demonstrated prose literacy.

Incarceration rates are offered as proof of the lingering effects of slavery. The numbers are shocking. Today, one out of three black males between 16 and 29 is in prison, on probation, or within the judicial system. In 1992 there were 583,000 black men in prison and jails compared to 537,000 in college. Blacks are 44.1 percent of sentenced prisoners, while only 12 percent of the U.S. population.

And it is true that black incarceration rates are historically higher than the white incarceration rate. However, the historical direction of these disparities must trouble reparations advocates. In 1932 a black was four times more likely to be incarcerated than a white. By 1980, the disparity had risen to eight times more likely.

Certainly, disparities between the rate of incarceration for the two races persist. But is this the legacy of slavery? The state with the highest present-day disparity in the rates of black vs. white incarceration is Minnesota, which never practiced slavery, where a black is 23 times more likely to be in jail than a white. The state with the second-lowest disparity against blacks is Mississippi.

The Race Hustlers have gotten a lot of mileage out of the myth that the problems in black communities are the fault of white racism. But, as black economist Thomas Sowell has demonstrated, many assumptions by and about "civil rights" are simply wrong. Discrimination, as evidenced by studies around the world, does not lead to poverty.

For example, Chinese in Malaysia, East Indians in Africa, and Italians in Argentina faced discrimination and yet managed to build sustaining communities that enabled them to prosper. Further, economic progress for blacks was most certainly not the result of civil rights legislation. The number of blacks in professional, technical and similar high-level positions more than doubled from 1954 to 1964. Sowell also demonstrated that the percentage of employed blacks in professional jobs was the same in 1967 as it was in 1960. He concluded that "the Civil Rights Act of 1964 represented no acceleration in trends that had been going on for many years."

How do we explain that in the 1960s one out of five black children went to bed hungry, but today, after an avalanche of federal civil rights legislation, it's one out of three?

Sowell offers the most convincing explanation, that the civil rights movement hijacked historic black progress for the benefit of big government. Urban Renewal programs, welfare and busing destroyed the sustaining black communities that sheltered and nurtured black cohesion and black families. Government favors that appeared beneficial turned out to be snares that have done immeasurable harm.

This issue is not going away. It is one we must confront directly and repeatedly with the historical facts. The myth of white racism as the source of all evil is a foundational prop of the multicultural, globalist regime. Its roots stretch back to the Lincoln Cult, which proclaims a powerful leader who bypassed the Constitution as the fount of true liberty and justice. Lincoln, so goes the catechism, was a firm but compassionate healer who helped Americans recover their "true" destiny as an egalitarian, propositional nation. Today, that myth justifies DC's unlimited power to right all wrongs and manage the affairs of all of its subjects. Confronting that myth is the first step in restoring our liberty.

Obama: Don't stock up on guns

Yeah -- trust me, says Obama:

"I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment," Obama said at a news conference. "Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven't indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word."

My, how soothing that sounds. But here's one sceptic who isn't buying it:

But National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said it's not Obama's words — but his legislative track record — that has gun-buyers flocking to the stores.

"Prior to his campaign for president, his record as a state legislator and as a U.S. Senator shows he voted for the most stringent forms of gun control, the most Draconian legislation, gun bans, ammunition bans and even an increase in federal excise taxes up to 500 percent for every gun and firearm sold," Arulanandam said.

What a radical idea -- judging politicians on what they do, rather than on what they say. Too bad conservatives didn't apply that rule to Bush & Co.

Maybe the Bush regime has taught us a lesson. And as people wake up to the fact that Obama's record is that of a smooth-talking, seemingly moderate peddler of radicalism, more healthy scepticism will be born.

Maybe it's not too late ...

Costco says 'No' to Christmas...literally

Speaking of boycotts, here's one we should join:

Costco has 520 stores nationwide. But you will not find "Christmas" in a single store.

That's because Costco says it will not use the term "Christmas" on its website or in its stores. Instead, Costco is telling customers it purposely chooses to use the generic "holiday" verbiage. You know, they stock holiday gifts, not Christmas gifts.

Last week, a customer wrote to Costco and asked this direct question - "Does Costco use the word 'Christmas' in your store advertising or on any signs anywhere in your stores during the Christmas season? That's a pretty simple question, yes or no."

Kory Rosacrans, staff manager for Costco replied, "I guess the answer would be No."

Rosacrans said, "Costco does not advertise on television, on radio or in print like other retailers. We only advertise by mailings and e-mail messages sent directly to our members who have paid for the privilege of shopping with us."

Costco wants you to do your "Christmas" shopping with them, while refusing to recognize that Christmas even exists.

Blackwater convoy disobeyed order before shooting

Are mercs trigger-happy? We link, you decide:

A Blackwater Worldwide convoy involved in a deadly shooting in a Baghdad intersection last year disobeyed an order when it left the U.S.-controlled Green Zone and attempted to shut down a busy traffic circle, prosecutors said Monday.

That move began a deadly string of events that left 17 Iraqi civilians dead and led to Monday's manslaughter indictment against five Blackwater guards. All were members of a convoy, known by the call sign Raven 23, that allegedly never should have been in the intersection.

How many generations of Muslims will swear vengeance against Americans for what Bush had done to them? We'll be paying for that almost as long as we'll be paying off Halliburton.

Things I didn't know

Check out these nuggets of wisdom, courtesy of a communist blogger named, no kidding, Caleb T. Maupin:

The League of the South is a "KKK revivalist group."

The League "advocates that the South Suceed."

Paleo-libertarian Thomas Woods is a "Fascist" whose "ideology silenced so many others in the days of lynching, at Aushwitz, and in the streets of Chile under Pinochet."

That "if Ron Paul came to power," he'd have Caleb T. Maupin and other communists shot.

That using a spell checker must be something only Fascists do ("You deny the existance of racist oppression.").

All this and more is presented, no kidding, seriously by a character named Caleb T. Maupin, whose web site links to tracts on "Marxist-Leninist" theory and practice. You remember communism, don't you? It was the most bloodthirsty ideology the world has ever seen. And yet this character imagines small-government advocates such as Thomas Woods and Ron Paul are the real threat to humanity. Wow.

Speaking of neglected political geniuses who mangle spelling, grammar, and simple logic, Ed Sebesta has issued a fatwa against Neiman Marcus for selling this:

Put that $110,000 back in your wallet, because Ed Sebesta has concluded it is a vehicle of evil.

Sebesta wants his readers to boycott Neiman Marcus (or, as he calls it, "Nieman Marcus") because this sizzlin' cycle is manufactured by the Confederate Motor Company. Because of the taboo name, Sebesta concludes Neiman Marcus is not only "selling the Confederacy," but is also plotting to exclude blacks from celebrating Christmas ("Nieman Marcus dreaming of a White Christmas"). Trying to follow Ed's thought processes is a bit, um, challenging at times, but he seems to imagine the company is promoting "Confederate identity" because its flagship store is in Dallas, and, as he observes, Dallas "doesn't have a human rights commission." Yeah.

Well, here's the point: As Christmas approaches, we should be aware of our many blessings. Aren't you glad Caleb T. Maupin and Ed Sebesta are NOT on our side? I am!

Not all surges are created equal

The surge in Iraq was a bad thing.

But a surge in Afghanistan will be a good thing.

What's the difference? Surging in Afghanistan is Obama's idea.

Mumbai terrorist group has US sleeper cells

Who says Third-World immigration threatens security here at home? Would you believe Federal law enforcement officials? You'd better:

But Federal authorities acknowledged that U.S. cities with large Muslim communities are under new scrutiny including New York, Detroit, Bayonne and other cities in New Jersey, Los Angeles, the Virginia area, Florida and cities in North Carolina, such as Charlotte. All are believed to contain such cells made up of young people who are living in rundown sections of those urban areas, the officials said.

Admiral Mike Mullin, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on Tuesday named the LeT as the perpetrator of the recent horrific attacks on 11 sites in Mumbai that killed 188 people in three days including six Americans in the heart of India's commercial capital.

Meanwhile, DC continues to wage war against Muslim nations, slaughtering civilians, fueling more hatred against Americans. The cycle of "Invite the world, invade the world" will go on and on -- until we, the people, pull the plug.

These are the best and brightest?

The hype:

Barack Obama’s picks for Cabinet and other senior posts are many things: Centrists, veterans, rivals. Most of all, though, they’re big: Big names, big intellects and big egos. ... much like JFK's, Obama's best and brightest will inevitably jostle up against one another, as some rise and others fall within an administration that has ambitious goals but, unlike Kennedy's, has limited resources.

The reality:

Incoming Obama administration director of speechwriting Jon Favreau (L) and a friend pose with a cardboard cutout of incoming Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at a party. (Obtained by The Washington Post)

There's pretty clear evidence of big egos, but darned if I can detect any trace of intellect at work in this picture. I reckon Obama's chief speechwriter never heard of that Internet thingy that can broadcast your stupidest moments to the world.
